In this episode of the Plant Fuelled Podcast, I sit down with Alyx Coble-Frakes, educator, menstrual health coach, and founder of The Agenda Period, to explore the truth about menopause, perimenopause, and the inner awakening that comes with both.

We talk about the rising phenomenon of “meno-divorce” a growing wave of relationship breakdowns during midlife and the emotional, biological, and social forces that drive it.

The Protein Obsession: Are We Nourishing Ourselves Or Just Following Fear With Callum Weir & Dr Minil Patel

🎙️ The Protein Obsession: Are We Nourishing Ourselves or Just Following Fear?

In this episode of the Plant Fuelled Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Minil Patel, a medical doctor, educator, and someone asking the bigger questions about what we eat and why.

Protein is everywhere. From cereals to cookies to water, it seems like the nutrient we can’t get enough of. But when everything is being “proteinified,” are we actually getting healthier or just more anxious?

We explore the cultural and clinical consequences of our obsession with protein, especially in the age of performance nutrition, carnivore influencers, and conflicting medical voices. Together, we unpack the science, the myths, and the societal forces that shape how we think about food from outdated definitions like “complete protein” to deeper questions about masculinity, meat, and identity.

This conversation goes far beyond grams and macros. It’s about misinformation, modern health anxiety, and the systems that keep us confused. And it’s about how we can take our power back through better questions and better tools.

✨ In this episode we talk about:

✅ Why the “high protein” trend might be missing the bigger picture
✅ The decline of fibre and micronutrient intake in favour of protein hype
✅ Why plant protein is still seen as inferior and what the science actually says
✅ The outdated myth of “complete protein” and how it continues to confuse
✅ Vegan vs carnivore: What do we do when two doctors give opposite advice?
✅ Masculinity, meat, and the psychology of protein obsession
✅ How to approach plant-based performance nutrition with clarity
✅ Whether the term “vegan” is still too polarising for the mainstream
✅ How Dr. Patel structures his own protein intake for health and performance
✅ The critical role of critical thinking in navigating health advice today

Whether you’re trying to build muscle on a plant-based diet, move away from fear-based eating, or simply want a clearer lens through which to view nutrition this episode will give you the tools to pause, reflect, and rethink the story we’ve been told about protein.

PCOS, Hormones & The Frustration Of Not Being Heard With Callum Weir & Rohini Bajekal

Why PCOS Isn’t Just About “Fixing Your Hormones” (And What Actually Matters Instead)

So many of us are handed the same generic advice when it comes to PCOS, “just balance your hormones” or “go on the pill.” But what if the story is so much deeper than that?

In this episode, I sit down with Rohini, a registered associate nutritionist and one of the clearest voices in the space, to talk about what’s actually going on behind the scenes with PCOS, and why hormone health doesn’t look the same for every woman. This isn’t about “quick fixes.” It’s about real physiology, individual nuance, and understanding how your body is speaking to you.

We explore:

  • What we get wrong about PCOS (and why so many feel gaslit by their doctors)

  • Why “hormone balance” isn’t a real goal and what to focus on instead

  • How stress, nutrition, and nervous system health impact PCOS

  • How to advocate for yourself inside a healthcare system that often misses the mark

  • Why so many women are misdiagnosed — and how to navigate conflicting advice

  • Understanding your symptoms through the lens of function, not failure

  • The importance of cycle literacy for every stage of life

  • How diet culture confuses PCOS care — and what sustainable support actually looks like

  • Tips for getting the most from your GP appointment or specialist consult

  • How plant-based approaches can support (not replace) root-cause healing

Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or you’ve been managing PCOS for years, this episode will help you feel seen, informed, and empowered to approach things differently.

About Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder worldwide, affecting at least 1 in 10 women, non-binary and transgender people. It is the number one cause of infertility with symptoms including acne, excess weight gain, irregular periods and hair loss and higher risk of long-term complications such as type 2 diabetes and womb cancer. Alarmingly, 3 in 4 of those with PCOS remain undiagnosed because of the complex nature of the condition.

The Media Is Failing Us: How The Climate Crisis Became Background Noise With Callum Weir & Josh Wheeler

Why the Media Is Hiding the Truth About Climate Change w/ Josh Wheeler

📲 Follow me on Instagram

What happens to the climate crisis… when the news stops talking about it?

In this powerful episode, I sit down with Josh Wheeler — founder of Be Broadcast and the mind behind Mission Control: The Climate Conversation — to explore the silent collapse of one of the most urgent stories of our time.

📊 After analysing 45,000+ UK broadcast segments, Josh reveals how climate change is framed by national media — and why coverage drops off the radar as soon as disaster headlines fade. Wildfires, floods, political summits… then silence.

🔥 We unpack:

  • Why climate coverage is fleeting, reactive & event-driven
  • How alarmist language like “ticking time bomb” drives eco-anxiety
  • The psychology of urgency and the power of friction in creating social change
  • How media shapes public trust, climate action & engagement
  • The paradox of extreme activism — it’s unpopular, but it works
  • Why regional broadcasters cover climate differently — and what it means for change-makers
  • What we can all do to keep the climate conversation alive

💬 This isn’t just a conversation about carbon footprints — it’s about attention, narrative, and power. And Josh, backed by hard data and deep insight, gives us a roadmap for progress.

If you’ve ever felt disillusioned by climate headlines or unsure how to stay engaged in a noisy world — this one’s for you.

The Sleep Crisis: Why We’re More Exhausted Than Ever with Callum Weir & Josh Piper

#51

🎙️ Welcome back to Plant Fuelled! 🎙️

Over a third of us struggle to fall asleep or wake up repeatedly throughout the night. Sleep deprivation is more common than ever, with the average person getting just 6.5 hours of sleep per night—far below the recommended amount. And it’s not just about feeling groggy the next day. Chronic sleep issues are fueling a surge in life-threatening conditions, from cardiovascular disease and diabetes to severe mental health disorders—often going undiagnosed.

One of the biggest culprits? Sleep apnea—a condition becoming increasingly prevalent, particularly among those experiencing peri- and menopause, where some of the worst sleep disruptions occur. With over 2 billion people worldwide struggling with poor sleep, it’s clear we’re facing a global sleep crisis. But why?

We often blame modern habits—endless scrolling on TikTok, late-night Instagram doomscrolling, blue light exposure—but is this truly the root cause? My own assumptions about the link between screen time and poor sleep didn’t match up with the research. So what’s really happening?

To break it all down, I’m joined by Josh Piper, a leading sleep clinician at ResMed’s London Sleep Clinic. He’s spent years studying the science of sleep and has an abundance of knowledge to help us understand why sleep is deteriorating—and what we can do about it.

🔥 In This Episode, We Explore:
✅ The shocking rise of undiagnosed sleep disorders and their long-term health consequences
✅ Why sleep apnea is becoming more common—and how to identify the warning signs
✅ The impact of hormonal changes in peri- and menopause on sleep quality
✅ The science of sleep progression—how our sleep cycles change over time
✅ The role of exercise and lifestyle choices in improving sleep quality
✅ The truth about screen time, social media, and blue light—is it really as bad as we think?
✅ Sleep paralysis demons—what’s happening in our brains when they appear?
✅ Practical, science-backed strategies to cultivate better sleep habits and wake up feeling truly rested

Josh’s insights go far beyond the usual "get off your phone before bed" advice. This conversation is packed with cutting-edge research, expert insights, and actionable steps to help you take control of your sleep and, ultimately, your long-term health.
