"المساواة هي حق وليست صدقة"، هذا ما أكدته رئيسة اللجنة المعنية بالقضاء على التمييز ضد المرأة، نهلة حيدر التي قالت إن تحقيق المساواة يجلب الاستقرار والسلام والعدالة الكرامة إلى المجتمعات.
رئيسة اللجنة المعنية بالقضاء على التمييز ضد المرأة تحدثت إلى أخبار الأمم المتحدة بعد مشاركتها في الاجتماع رفيع المستوى بمناسبة الذكرى الثلاثين للمؤتمر العالمي الرابع المعني بالمرأة، والذي ركز على تجديد الالتزام بتنفيذ إعلان ومنهاج عمل بيجين وحشد الموارد والتعجيل بتنفيذه لتحقيق المساواة وتمكين النساء والفتيات. وعقد الاجتماع ضمن فعاليات الأسبوع رفيع المستوى للجمعية العامة في دورتها الثمانين.
وقالت حيدر إن أبرز الرسائل التي وجهتها خلال كلمتها في الاجتماع هي أنه "بعد ثلاثين عام من تبني إعلان بيجين، هناك شعور بأنه رغم الانجازات التي تم تحقيقها، ما زالت هناك نواقص عديدة، بل وتراجع في بعض المجالات".
وشددت على ضرورة معالجة المخاطر الجديدة التي تهدد تحقيق المساواة بما فيها العنف على الإنترنت وتزايد العنف في النزاعات المسلحة وتأثير أزمة المناخ، مضيفة أن "كل هذه الأمور تتطلب منا تجديد الالتزام والعمل سويا".
