Joshua asked Achan to give glory to God by confessing his sin. But Achan's confession reveals no repentance—only exposure. His words echo the fall of Adam and Eve: he saw, he coveted, he took. Covetousness is the sin of unbelief, suspecting God of withholding good from us. Today, we explore the stark contrast between Rahab's faith and Achan's greed. One saved her family; the other doomed his. One made a covenant; the other broke it. How can we avoid the sin of covetousness?

📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
• Joshua 7:19-21 (Achan's Confession)
• Genesis 3:6 (Eve Saw, Desired, Took)
• Numbers 15:27-31 (High-Handed Sin)
• Psalm 26:7 (Thanksgiving and Confession)
• Isaiah 51:3, Jeremiah 17:26 (Glory to God)
• Ezra 10:11 (Confession of Sin)
• Joshua 2:1-13 (Rahab's Faith)
• Luke 12:15 (Beware of Covetousness)

🗓️ DAILY DEVOTIONAL SERIES:
Week 6: "The Enemy Within"—understanding how covetousness reveals unbelief and how faith leads to obedience.

💭 REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. What is the significance of Joshua asking Achan to "give glory to God" through confession?
2. How does Achan's confession echo the fall of Adam and Eve?
3. What is the contrast between Rahab's faith and Achan's greed?
4. How can we avoid succumbing to the sin of covetousness, no matter how much we have or don't have?

🙏 PRAYER FOCUS:
Lord, help me recognize covetousness as unbelief. Teach me to trust that You withhold no good thing from me, and give me a heart of contentment and faith.

🕯️ INSPIRED BY:
"The sin of covetousness is the sin of unbelief. It suspects God of not wanting the best for His creatures and of hiding some exquisite pleasures from them."

God didn't immediately expose Achan. He set up a procedure that revealed both His justice and His grace. The investigative process gave Achan time to repent, cleared the innocent, and narrowed corporate guilt down to one individual. Joshua's compassionate address—"My son"—reveals the heart of a leader executing judgment with tears. Today, we explore how God's penetrating eyes see all hidden things, and how this reality should transform how we live.

📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
• Joshua 7:16-19 (The Investigative Procedure)
• Joshua 7:13 (Sanctification of the People)
• Numbers 16:23-33, 26:11 (Sons of Korah Refused Complicity)
• Psalm 139:1-16 (God Knows Everything)
• 2 Chronicles 16:9 (God's Eyes Search the Earth)
• 1 Samuel 16:7 (God Sees the Heart)
• Jeremiah 17:10 (God Searches the Heart)
• Proverbs 5:21 (God Sees All Our Ways)
• The Desire of Ages, p. 353 (Jesus' Compassionate Justice)

🗓️ DAILY DEVOTIONAL SERIES:
Week 6: "The Enemy Within"—understanding how God's investigative justice reveals both His righteousness and His compassion.

💭 REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. What does the investigative procedure reveal about God's justice and grace?
2. How does Joshua's compassionate address to Achan ("My son") reflect Jesus' heart?
3. How does the realization that God knows all your hidden things impact how you live?
4. What does it mean that nothing is concealed from God's penetrating eyes?

🙏 PRAYER FOCUS:
Lord, search my heart and reveal any hidden sin. Help me live with the awareness that You see everything, and give me the courage to confess before judgment comes.

🕯️ INSPIRED BY:
"Nothing is concealed from the penetrating eyes of the Lord, who knows what is hidden in the heart of a man."

Israel's defeat at Ai had two causes: Achan's hidden sin and Israel's overconfidence in their own strength. Today, we explore how one man's disobedience brought guilt upon the entire nation. God describes Achan's sin in escalating terms—transgression, taking, stealing, deceiving, hiding—revealing the gravity of covenant breach. This sobering truth reminds us: individual sin has corporate consequences. When we break covenant with God, we don't just harm ourselves—we impact the entire community of faith.

📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
• Joshua 7:1, 11-13 (Achan's Sin and Corporate Guilt)
• Joshua 7 (The Defeat at Ai)
• Hebrew Terms for Sin: khata' (sin), abar (transgress), laqakh (take), ganab (steal), kakhash (deceive), sim (hide)

🗓️ DAILY DEVOTIONAL SERIES:
Week 6: "The Enemy Within"—understanding how individual sin affects the entire covenant community.

💭 REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. What were the two major causes of Israel's defeat at Ai?
2. How does God's description of Achan's sin reveal its escalating gravity?
3. Why does individual sin bring guilt upon the whole community?
4. What are ways whole communities can suffer from the bad acts of individuals?

🙏 PRAYER FOCUS:
Lord, help me recognize that my sin doesn't just affect me—it impacts the entire body of Christ. Give me the courage to confess and repent before hidden sin brings defeat.

🕯️ INSPIRED BY:
"Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them."

Understanding God as Judge is foundational to the gospel and our salvation.
