In today's episode, I am speaking to Scott Walker. Scott is one of the world's most experienced kidnap for ransom negotiators. His experience has enabled him to develop a unique understanding of what makes people think, feel and act regardless of circumstances; particularly during times of conflict, crisis and adversity.
Which frankly makes him the perfect person to give us the tools and tips to navigate the politics, difficulties and negotiations needed to master those days where you wish you could just get people to see your point of view in the workplace.
His new book, Order Out Of Chaos is due out in May 2023, and is available to pre-order now on Amazon or via his website: https://www.scottwalkerbooks.co.uk/.
It provides the mindset tools and techniques to communicate effectively in times of crisis, change and uncertainty.
As always, be sure to listen all the way through for all the good bits and for future episodes don’t forget to subscribe to the Winning in Work podcast.
On today's episode, we are talking to Lizzi Whaley, CEO of Spaceworks Interior Architecture.
Lizzi joined Spaceworks Interior Architecture in 2004. But when she heard her company was selling up, she decided (as a 28 year old, single mum living with her parents) that if the business was to be sold then she wanted to be the purchaser. She bought the company and became chief executive in 2006.
We’ll discuss the mindset shift moving from employee to employer, the importance of focusing ‘in’ on your people and how to lead when you yourself are going through personal changes.
As always, be sure to listen all the way through for all the good bits and for future episodes don’t forget to subscribe to our podcast.
This week I spoke to Jennifer Young from Intentional Generations. Jen focuses on wellbeing and creating intentionally positive company cultures. She started her company following her own experience in a toxic work environment and was conscious not only how it affected her mental health in the office but also how it affected everyone else around her.
If our environment is toxic and we feel powerless within it, we become a product of our environment. So ask yourself what environments you sit in?
In this podcast we discuss mental health. If any of these topics affect you please see below a list of helplines and helpsites. You are not alone in this.

In today's age where it is all the rage to 'own your own seven-figure-business' (again - thank you Social Media). The reality is that a job isn't a dirty word. A job can give you security, it can give you $$ for a pension, it can give you a break from your children. It can give you your work bestie and it can actually be something that you love.

2) On finding purpose and paying for a career coach: “You don't need a coach for that! What you actually need is to want to enjoy your work!”
3) The people can make or break the workplace “Do you enjoy the people that you work with? Have a real think about it, because that's actually one of the big things. They say you don't leave a job, you leave the boss, and [sometimes you need to] leave a toxic workplace.”

In today’s episode our host Nikki speaks to Rebekah Fraser, The Back to Work Coach.
They discuss the career transformation you go through the moment you realise you are about to become a parent.
They look at the things you need to ask ahead of going on parental leave and how you navigate those first few months when you know you are pregnant but really trying to pretend you aren’t (not an easy task!).
Using experiences from their own pregnancies as well as delving into their own time in corporate they look at ways for us to empower ourselves to ask the right questions and get maternity leave that benefits both us as new parents as well as the employer.
Nikki and Rebekah also talk about the vulnerability and mindset shifts we need to manage around asking for what we want in the workplace and the importance of paving the way for the next generation in the same way our previous generations paved the way for us.
This episode is not just for women we also discuss paternity leave and how FINALLY the world is starting to see that Dad’s need to have an active role in the household as well as the office. A Work / Life balance is not reserved to any gender.

Fast forward to 4 years later and Dancing Sands is New Zealand’s most awarded distillery and has won many awards across the globe including back-to-back Platinum medals at the consumer led SIP awards in the USA (2018/2019) where it was voted the best barrel aged gin in 2018.
Join us as we discuss, making the big move out of corporate, what gave Ben and Sarah that confidence/kick/fearlessness to turn a dream into a reality and how do you run a business and raise a small family but still keep that work / life balance?
