In this episode of TRUEOLOGY, we take on one of the most misunderstood doctrines in Christian theology: How can God ordain sin—even sinful desires—yet remain perfectly holy and guiltless? Turning to chapter 5, paragraph 4 of the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith, we unpack how God’s sovereign counsel extends not only to creation and redemption, but also to the sinful acts of men and angels without Him ever being the author of sin. We begin by clarifying that Scripture does not present God as a passive observer who merely “permits” evil, but as the sovereign Author who wisely orders all things to His holy ends. We then confront the central objection—“If God ordained my desires, isn’t He guilty of my sin?”—and answer it by applying the Creator–creature distinction, showing through analogy and Scripture that God authors the story without sharing in the creature’s guilt. Case studies like Joseph’s brothers, Pharaoh, Assyria, and the crucifixion of Christ prove that God ordains sin for His glory while creatures remain fully responsible. Ultimately, this doctrine safeguards the certainty of the cross, the security of salvation, and the glory of a God who reigns over all things.

On our first anniversary episode of TRUEOLOGY, we will be addressing the objection, “You can’t legislate morality!” This is a modern objection that lacks critical reflection, but it still tends to push Christian into a corner. This objection has successfully deterred Christians from getting involved in politics, because they have been deceived—as much as the objectors are—that Christians have nothing to contribute in the area of law-making. It is a shame that some of our brothers and sisters have actually believed this, but on this first anniversary episode, we’ll take a critical and Biblical look into he claim and how it fails basic common sense and logic. This episode serves to help Christians see law & legislation the same way God has reveal them—which is, as a covenant between parties. America may not be in a covenant with God in a formal sense, but this does not eliminate the need to adhere to the religious nature embedded in any law code, which calls us to obey a certain “god”. If that God is not the One true God, then we ought to have some concern for the underlying source of the current legislations in our society. This is not a formal argument for Christian Nationalism, nor is it a plea for Theonomy, I am simply trying to inform Christians that our worldview is crucial to how we understand legislation, and the direct response we should be armed with when confronted with the objection—“You can’t legislate morality!” Enjoy the episode!

On this episode, we conclude our first series with a look at JOHN 3:16, arguably the most famous verse in all the Bible. While using Dr. McMahon's notes on the topic, I argue that this verse addresses the benefit of Christ to those believing, over against the commonly misapplied understanding, which is that this verse is speaking of personal ability to believe. Though I do not doubt the free exercise of personal belief as a necessity of the Gospel call, I do contend that this verse is not presenting such an imperative. Essentially, I am saying that this verse is saying that God sent His Son so that those believing ones (the "whosoever"), will not perish, but have everlasting life. In this episode, we dive into John 3:3 and address the common misunderstanding that this verse is teaching that a person must "make a personal decision to believe in Jesus in order to be regenerated". I contrast that with the textual argument that Jesus is making a profound statement on the necessity of the new birth. In other words, Jesus is saying, "unless the new birth takes place, you cannot see the working of God." As controversial as this verse can be, we must keep in mind that one of the reasons why this is so misunderstood, is because of 19th century Revivalism and 20th century Reductionism. With that in mind, I hope that this will be another challenge for us to examine our traditions in light of what has cause the meaning of this verse to be what it is in many Christian circles today.

In this episode, I walk through one of the most controversial passages in the New testament. Matthew 24 has been the center of Christian eschatological discussion for a very long time. Some view what Jesus discloses in this passage as things that are yet to occur from our current reference point. Others have contended that Jesus was prophesying the destruction of the Old testament order and the end of the age of temple Judaism. Whatever you believe about this passage, I intend to walk through it with a particular commitment to the post-millennial outlook so that this commonly abused and misused text could display it's true meaning.
