Lisa shares her experience working with clients at the intersection of restrictive and binge eating, autism, ADHD, and nutritional imbalances. She also discusses her work with the New Maudsley approach and a groundbreaking new early-intervention app that could transform eating disorder care. A powerful conversation full of insight, hope, and practical wisdom for families and professionals alike.
In this episode, Ruth Steggles speaks with nutritional therapist Joanne Lee, whose work spans eating disorders and OCD. They explore the deep connections between food, mental health, and family dynamics, particularly how OCD often coexists with eating disorders. Joanne shares her personal journey into nutritional therapy, her experience supporting her son through OCD, and the importance of individualized, compassionate care. This powerful conversation is full of practical insights for parents and carers navigating complex recovery journeys.
In this powerful and deeply moving episode, Emily Nuttall shares her remarkable journey through anorexia, trauma, disability, and recovery. From childhood bullying and family breakdowns to multiple hospitalisations and the life-changing discovery of her autism diagnosis, Emily offers a raw and inspiring story of resilience. She reflects on what helped—and what harmed—her along the way, and the support that finally made a difference. This is a must-listen for parents, carers, and anyone seeking to understand eating disorders through a truly lived experience.

Kel is the Services Lead, Educator & Therapist at Kel O'Neill Counselling and Services, offering counselling, training and bespoke services with a special interest in Eating Disorders.
The work that she does involves her wearing a few different hats—at various times, Counsellor / Psychotherapist, an Educator, and Researcher. She is deeply passionate about understanding the intricacies of Eating Disorders and sharing that knowledge with others, whether it involves working one-on-one with someone affected by an Eating Disorder, teaching a room full of professionals, or delving into research data.
From the comfort of her therapy room, Kel runs a busy private practice, available both in person and online. Her work blends Integrative, Existential and Humanistic approaches to support individuals on their journey to recovery. Her goal is always to create a safe space for exploration and for healing.
Led by the belief that knowledge truly is a superpower, Kel is on a mission to break down barriers to recovery by exploring topics like eating disorder awareness, weight bias, and that delicate dance of risk management and harm in eating disorder care.
Beyond the therapy room, her time is dedicated to delivering CPD events, contributing to research, and actively publishing with the Lived Experiences of Eating Disorders Research Collective (LEED) and other collaborators. Her commitment to making a difference extends to three-times award-nominated blog, ‘Mental Health Bites,’ and its related YouTube channel. Speaking of things online, Kel is also the creator of ‘The Eating Disorder Recovery Companion,’ an online subscription service for those facing long waiting lists or struggling to access the care that they need. And let’s not forget her role as a Beat Ambassador— for over 15 years and counting! This has led to her involvement in a wealth of co-production projects and lived experience participation.

Linn Thorstensson is a Non-Diet Nutritional Therapist who offers nutritional counselling to folk who struggle with their relationship to food, eating and their body.

Ruth talks to Richard Palmer who founded The Eating Disorder Recovery Clinic in April 2023.
He absolutely loves working in the eating disorders field and watching clients recover. It is the most challenging, and rewarding, work that he has ever undertaken.
It’s no secret that he rages at the general level of eating disorder treatment in the UK. Too much of the treatment provided by statutory and independent organisations is just not good enough.
Richard's goal with The Eating Disorder Recovery Clinic is to create a safe, caring, compassionate clinic that provides utterly superb treatment for the individuals working with them.
He truly believes that everyone living with an eating disorder can recover, but they need to be given the right treatment at the right time by the right professional. This is what he aims to deliver.
Effective treatment and recovery are entirely possible if we move away from manualised treatments and fully engage with client-led care.
