Today sees the announcement that the recruitment marketing community The Lonely Marketers, along with this podcast has been acquired by our biggest supporter, Paiger. Darren Westall, Paiger's CEO interviews Glenn about the origins of The Lonely Marketers and where it goes to next. *Personal message from Glenn: With Paiger acquiring TLM, I am confident that its values will be upheld, and the opportunity for people to learn and share will only get greater and the reputation of recruitment marketing will only be enhanced.
Joining us from Austin, Texas, Jake Gorgol is our latest guest. Jake works for OutScout who are part of the JCW Group, and the business describes itself as a "technology talent matching platform".
The great thing about this conversation is that this is not an add-on the existing recruitment and staffing services, it's a dedicated business trying to do things differently (but still retaining the human element).
Jake's marketing background is a product one having previously worked at Abercrombie & Fitch and we dive into how his experiences there have guided his approach in the staffing world. He is also being given the time to build out the long-term marketing assets that will pay dividends down the line, something we can all relate to.
Nice to have a US accent back on the show as well as a shift in the conversation a bit. I hope you enjoy the chat.
Yo Paiger! Thanks for having our back.
The obsession to record ROI is real. Whether it's putting pressure on ourselves or if it's coming from above, we can get consumed by proving a direct return - sometimes stopping us doing anything at all. In this episode we are joined by Haydn Morgans from Search Stack who gives his opinion on all things gated content, community and podcasts.
Haydn's wide-ranging experience of working with multiple recruitment agencies enables him to provide real insight into what's working at the moment, what we need to do better and what opportunities are out there.
I hope you enjoy it and, as always, Paiger - thanks for your support.
After a little podcast siesta (or maybe a hibernation?), we are back with Amity Watts from Cubed Talent joining us having recently started a new role. We dive into her personal takes of the candidate experience when searching for a new position and she gives plenty of guidance to anybody potentially looking at new pastures.
With a load of experience on the marketing agency side before joining the world of recruitment, Amity also shares her 'best bits' from that part of her career and how it's helped shape her approach in our crazy land. Throw in some chat about being a working parent, practising gratitude and making everyone a marketer then we've got an excellent comeback episode.
Paiger stuck around though, which is nice. Cheers team.
Ellie Finey (pronounced "Fine-y") from Fraser Dove kindly joined me for the latest episode of the podcast. We rambled on loads about moving from the world of agency marketing to an in-house team and how the sense of belonging is important to her and her growth.
Ellie, as well as managing her team over at FDI, also actively mentors marketers and we talk about this and how it builds key leadership skills. A key part of this is accepting that you don't know everything and surrounding yourself with people who can keep you learning all of the time.
Another drop of recruitment marketing experiences for you all to enjoy, thanks in part to the lovely lot over at Paiger. Enjoy!
Ben Leeson from the rec hub kicks off season ten of The Lonely Marketer talking all things brand. In a world where we are obsessed with metrics and ROI, Ben and the other founders of the rec hub are well and genuinely brand-led and believe everything else will take care of itself.
It was great to hear from Ben's brand background and how this is translating to the world of talent. If us marketers can be trusted with the brand and see the long-term value in tandem with what we need to do in the short term then we're going to be in a blinking good place.
As always, Paiger remains loyal supporters of our community and we couldn't do this without them. Big up recruitment marketing supporters.
We had to remove the obvious expletive from the title here but there is not a better descriptor of a common theme throughout Rowena Wilding's episode. Rowena's background has given her wealth of experiences, both personal and professional that has shaped the way she works in marketing.
Coming into a new business, Rowena went on a mission to shift company tone of voices and how individuals communicated. Weekly workshops, a few carrots, a couple of sticks and a lot of championing success made it work.
If there's ever a demonstration of taking a bull by the horns, Rowena's approach is it. From introducing a story-telling approach, putting account-based marketing on a pedestal and trying and failing a lot it, this is how we move recruitment marketing forward.
We also speak openly about a topic close to Rowena's heart and something we can all be better at. As a queer woman, Rowena says that we should all be doing more about our diversity, inclusion and equity efforts and why it really matters at a human level.
Paiger, you continue to be legends by supporting us.
Copywriting in recruitment marketing. Quite niche. Luca Rosi joins us in what is a really practical episode dissecting plenty of elements of content including raising the profile of your consultants and brand through sector-specific content, the importance of repurposing content and why copywriting is not something you can "just do".
Luca is extremely passionate and we agreed and disagreed on a couple of things whilst having a fair bit of fun. Having worked in a specialist role within recruitment since 2008, including a big stint at Hays, Luca knows his stuff and they'll be plenty you'll be able to implement into your day-to-day jobs.
Happy listening and big thanks, as ever, to Paiger.
Sometimes you just need that bit of a change in your career. But that doesn't come with it's own challenges and experiences and that's what we speak to Christina about in this episode. After spending several years in one business, Christina decided to take the jump into a new company in a new sector. We recorded this episode with her six months into her new role and cover overcoming imposter syndrome and how it's completely normal to experience these feelings.
There's also talk about content and how we're in danger of being too 'samey' as everyone else so need to step things up, use our audiences and make real efforts to stand out.
Lovely jubbly, we hope you enjoy it as much as so many people enjoy using Paiger (our sponsors)...
