Kevin Shirey is a member of the Test & Measurement team in Chicago. He’s served several key industries over his 20+ years of experience. Kevin shares a passion for giving back to the LabVIEW communities by filming and producing session content online from the CLA Summit, NI Week, GDevCon, and NI Connect conferences with the help of LabVIEW Champions and LabVIEW Wiki. He strongly believes in providing quality and professional content to share and continue to grow our LabVIEW communities and spread positive awareness. For fun, he enjoys several artistic outlets including singing, acting, technical directing, DJ/KJ, playing in cover bands, and he has previously served on the Board of Directors for several theaters and Rotary groups. He also enjoys video editing and producing a TV Show called DoeNation Outdoors for NBC in Alabama as well as The Outdoor Channel nationwide. Kevin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Computer Science.

Greg Richardson grew up in Longview (NE Texas) where his father was a cattle rancher, and spent much of his early years working there. Ranchers will avoid paying someone else if at all possible so he learned how things work and how to fix them. Greg was first exposed to programming in junior high and took to it. He couldn't decide whether he wanted to go into tech or be a vet so he started at Texas A&M pursuing both Animal Science and Computer Science. It took him long enough to decide that he finished both programs (in 4 years). Greg works for NI in R&D and has a wife and two adult children. 

Erich is a CLD and Professional Engineer (MN) with over 20 years experience engineering systems and testing widgets. He has been solving problems and fixing code since LabVIEW version 5. Erich has been involved in planning the local Minneapolis/Saint Paul User Group for the last 7 years and has been a member of the G Idea Exchange Committee for the last two and a half years. He has worked on projects big and small, trying to defy the inner desire of every software developer everywhere to rewrite every application. He prefers to be working on systems where there is a strong hardware and software component. Erich also enjoys getting into legacy code to find out what makes it tick and adding new features. His favorite saying born from years of experience is "There's nothing more permanent than a short term solution."

Fabiola De la Cueva is the lead architect for DQMH®, one of the most popular LabVIEW frameworks. She is the co-author of "LabVIEW Graphical Programming", is a CLA, CPI, CLED, and has been named a "LabVIEW Champion" by National Instruments. She is on the board of the DQMH Consortium.

Taylor Jo Oxley is the Producer for The LabVIEW Experiment, Director of Operations for SAS Workshops, and event organizer for GDevCon N.A. While she does not have any formal training in software development, she is happy to be a part of the robust LabVIEW Community. Taylor is a former professional dancer and holds a degree in Dance Performance from Illinois State University. She began working with small businesses and entrepreneurs in 2017 as an Administrative Specialist. She published her first book of poetry in 2021. 

In this Live episode of The LabVIEW Experiment, the crew is at GDevCon N.A. 2024. We asked Norm Kirchner to gather a few folks together to talk about Risk or Reward: Thoughts on Open Source. We were joined by Jim Kring, Casey May, Joerg Hampel, Derrick Bommarito, and Laura Miller.  

Katya Prince has been working with LabVIEW for over 30 years. She taught herself LabVIEW as a graduate student as a way to avoid doing research and fell into the test and measurement industry with her first job out of school. In 1998 she started her own consulting company, Prince Consulting, LLC.  Since then, she has used LabVIEW to create custom software solutions in a myriad of industries. Even after all these years, she is still enthralled by the thought that pushing a bunch of one and zeros together can solve real-world problems.

Cyril Gambini is a Certified LabVIEW Architect and Certified TestStand Architect, with more than 15 years of experience working for NI partners in France and in Canada. He has had the chance to work on R&D projects, test systems in production and HIL testing (with VeriStand) in many sectors. Cyril is now the VP of Engineering at Neosoft Technologies (DQMH Trusted Advisor), who provides consulting services (Software and Hardware) in Canada, the USA and in Europe.

Coming from a C++ background, Chris first encountered LabVIEW in one of his college Mechanical Engineering courses. He was not amused, to say the least... it was clearly a tool for lazy people who didn't know how to program. Fortunately his instructor forced him to use it. Christopher is now a staunch advocate for LabVIEW. Norm is a 22 year veteran of the global LabVIEW community, and ardent evangelist of SMoRES design principles, Norm Kirchner is currently a Chief Technical Support Engineer at NI specializing in RF & communications.

Norma Dorst is an executive with nearly 30 years of experience at Emerson NI. She leads the global marketing team serving all industries, products, and regions. She graduated with a BSEE from UT Austin and started as an applications engineer before discovering her passion for marketing strategy and leading people.

Ed’s LabVIEW experience started in 2000 when he started work at DISTek Integration, a company he has been with for over 20 years. He has worked on a variety of projects including standard test and control applications as well as more complex systems that include motion and vision-based testing. Most of his projects are in the off-road vehicle industry, but he has also done projects for the medical industry and Universities. Ed is the Sponsorship coordinator for GDevCon N.A. 

Terry Stratoudakis is a graduate of New York University (NYU) Polytechnic University (now the NYU Tandon School of Engineering) with an M.S. and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He has worked with LabVIEW since 1998 and LabVIEW FPGA since 2008. In 2020 his book “Introduction to LabVIEW FPGA for RF, Radar, and Electronic Warfare Applications” was published by Artech House Publishers. Terry has worked as a developer, architect, engineering manager, consultant, and instructor. He has worked in the aerospace, defense, energy, finance, and research industries. In recent years Terry has been applying Systems Engineering principles to his projects. Terry is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association of Old Crows (AOC). Terry works for ALE Consultants, which is a consulting company he co founded.

As the Director responsible for the NI Software Community, Elijah Kerry brings nearly two decades of expertise in the test and measurement industry, with a primary focus on driving the success and evolution of their software platform. Throughout his career, he’s cultivated deep relationships with the passionate user community, serving as a trusted advisor and advocate for their needs. By actively engaging with users, gathering valuable feedback, and collaborating with internal stakeholders, Eli has been responsible for helping to drive product enhancements that meet the evolving demands of NI customers.

Ederson Ramalho has a Masters Degree in Computer Science and Computing Engineering. He has over 20 years experience working with test and measurement systems. He is a LabVIEW Champion, CLA, and CPI and has presented at the last two GLA Summits.

David is a family man, musician, illustrator, software developer, and Microsoft MVP living in North Georgia. His mission in life is to help people be more awesome. David runs on a high-octane mixture of caffeine and JavaScript, and is made entirely of bacon.

Most of you should know Allen by now, but we’d like to introduce his daughter Meghan Smith. Meghan is a high school junior who learned LabVIEW as part of her STEM requirements. She wrote the Actor Hierarchy Inspector as part of a summer internship with justACS. After dancing for 14 years she has set that aside to pursue architecture. 

John Medland is a Senior Systems Engineer at Control Software Solutions (based near Manchester in the UK), CLA and cookie fan. He enjoys building things, loves the chance to collaborate, share knowledge, and learn something new.

Niko Naredi studied chemistry, and got his PhD in Biophysics in 2014. During that time when working on super-resolution microscopes, he unintentionally found himself drifting into the enchanting realm of automation. With a short detour in Berlin for Picoquant (a laser and research equipment manufacturer) and the ETH Zurich for Microfluidics, he joined National Instrument Switzerland as Applications Engineer in 2016 where he got (and gave) lots of LabVIEW and TestStand training. He changed to the Systems Engineering department, which was shortly thereafter renamed to Applications Engineering, so he became an Applications Engineer again until they closed the Swiss branch of NI. Niko joined Zühlke Engineering in 2019 as a Systems Engineer, originally working on test systems with his focus shifting more into the med-tech and consulting direction. Along this path, he had an epiphany: what if we could borrow some secrets from our rockstar DevOps colleagues in software engineering and apply them to our non-DevOps world? And just like that, a new passion was born: exploring how we can infuse our little corner of automation with the awesomeness and buzzwords that make up DevOps.

Ben Leedom has worked as a software developer for over 15 years, including 12 years at National Instruments building LabVIEW NXG. He has previously presented at GDevCon about experiments in combining Rust with LabVIEW. He is currently developing a life sciences laboratory automation and orchestration system with Python at Artificial, Inc. He lives in Austin, Texas with his family.

Kyle started writing code in '81, and started work at his dad's software shop in '82. He gave up code for teaching in '92 when he discovered his love of helping people improve. He gave up teaching kids for teaching code in '97 when he discovered teachers don't get paid. In '00, he converted to evangelical eXtreme Programming, doing, teaching how, and proselytizing. Since then he's become a generalist on "lets build software better" and has concluded that the biggest problem along the way is a poor understanding of "better". For a couple years, he was CIO for Swanleap, the Inc #1 fastest growing startup in the US. Now he's again looking for work building software better.
