Bear with me on the sound for this clip… I fixed it to the best of my ability BUT it’s still a great episode. So go for a walk, hop on the bike, or take a seat with your coffee for this episode with my friend Jakob.
Ever wonder what it's like to be a girl dad, a youth pastor, and a partner in ministry all at once?
In this episode, Sean sits down with his friend Jakob Johnston to talk about all of the above. Jakob, a youth pastor in Arkansas, shares what it's like to be a dad to two spirited girls, Rosie and Claire. He and Sean also discuss the challenges and joys of raising kids, the funny sicknesses they get, and the similarities they've found in being "girl dads."
The two also dive into their shared experience of being leaders and educators for other people's kids, while learning to parent their own. This episode is packed with honest reflections, laughs, and heartfelt conversations about fatherhood, faith, and finding your place.

The Just Call Dad Podcast is where real dads have real conversations. Hosted by Coach Sean Patrick, we talk fatherhood, manhood, and the messy middle between who you were and who you’re becoming. No fluff—just stories, advice, and community to help you make today your Day One.
The Just Call Dad Podcast is about connection, community, and conversations with dads who want to be present, intentional, and real. What started after a doctor’s visit where I thought I was dying has turned into a global conversation about fatherhood, manhood, and the messy middle between who we were and who we’re becoming.
In this episode, I talk about navigating the past, present, and future—from the dad-bod moments and receding hairlines to the deeper emotional stuff we don’t always talk about. I share my journey from starting on a borrowed mic to interviewing incredible dads, and realizing that fatherhood isn’t a solo mission—it’s a team sport.
Whether you’re crushing your goals or just trying to make it through the day, this is a space where you can connect, learn, and remember: Today can be your Day One.

Ep. 30 - Camp, Seasons, & The Loss of a friend
Warm up - Camp
• We all have places in our lives we go back to at different checkpoints of our lives.
• We need to have spaces like that we can evaluate our progress and be honest with our ups or downs emotionally.
• Find your own “camp” or check in place you can be honest with yourself.
Workout - Seasons
• Life is seasonal so just be you, and be ok to adjust your energy accordingly.
• Don’t search for the past you, because the current you is amazing, even if you are a mess, embrace it.
• Trust that you’re right where you need to be, but don’t be afraid to make a change too.
Cool Down - Losing a friend
• Losing a friend is hard, and as a dad I feel this loss deeply.
• Talk about your feelings, worries, and things like this… don’t bottle it up.
NO Goal BUT Full of Vision

JCD 28: Smart Watch Problems, Stop & Praise, John Wooden’s Wisdom

Cool Down:
John Wooden’s 7 life principles are life changing! Is there a coach or teaching like this that has impacted your life too?
Read this book with your kids to help them get ahead of some of these emotional ideas that can attack us as adults. Can we work together to help our kids form their identity from a place of strength and courage instead of fear? Let’s work together on this challenge! JCD 27: Yep I Got Benched, Find Your Bench, Unlock Your Today
Warm Up:
The song that was stuck in my head was so fun!
I do not own the rights to Forrest Frank’s song but here is the credit:
Forrest Frank, Child of God 2, LIVE YOUR LIFE - GO CHECK OUT THIS ALBUM IF YOU NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT!
This song got me thinking about living my life by finding my own bench moment that I need to have a reset on my perspective, maybe you do too!
Read more about the bench idea I share in the book below.
My book: One On Purpose
Workout:
The bench is somewhere you can learn how to compete if you have the right COACH. Who is or better yet, what is your coach? Struggle? Fear? Worry? Or are you listening to the coach that is preparing you to get back into the game and compete better today (tomorrow too).
My book on competing: Designed To Compete
Cool Down:
Perspective is the key to have purpose from the pain you feel. What pain are you feeling today? Do you see the purpose in that pain? Can you pause for a bit today and journal about how you are going to make the bench a place you feel calm, comfortable, and ready to attack life after you regain perspective.

JCD 26: Just Call Dad Podcast
Warm Up:
What does it mean for you to be one on purpose? Do you believe that one on purpose action can change your day?
My book: One On Purpose
Workout:
No one can place value on things in your life... the value that you choose is the value that you take with you. So, set your own expectations on what you value so someone else does not tell you what you are worth. Also, we have so many things that compete for our attention as humans (sports too) so I wrote my own battle down in a book.
My book on competing: Designed To Compete
Cool Down:
The emotional value that I found from writing books that were failures ended with me making something that was very special and unique. I want to help every kid, dad, and human have a book (or series to read) that can change the narrative on competing in life. We can flip the script one book at a time, taking identity off of outcome, and place that on the process.
