Letting go of clock time as a sanity saving concept for new parents

I've been asked so many times... How many times a night is he getting up? Are you getting any sleep? How often are you waking out? Are you sleeping for more than an hour at a time? To which I respond... I don't know. I suppose I could count dirty diapers. I suppose I could find a clock and put it in my room and look at it anxiously every time my baby wakes up. He only slept for 20 minutes. He only slept for half an hour. He only slept for three hours. He only slept for five hours. But why bring myself into anxiety and anxiousness over how much sleep I have or haven't gotten. I could do these things. But why?

Breastfeeding is lazy, smart and biologically awesome

Breastfeeding is actually less work than bottle feeding. It's for the lazy mom and it's okay to be a lazy mom. Lazy has a really bad connotation but we could also use the words effective mom, natural mom, energy wise mom. You know, the the traditional mom, the physiological mom. Breasts are incredible. That they filter our own nutrition for creating optimal baby food is extra incredible. So I just want to sort of lay this down... it's okay to take the easy route.

The very first step in the cascade of interventions is the pregnancy test. That is if you're not going the IVF route, in which case there's a whole cascade of interventions there. But assuming you're conceiving naturally, the question becomes, when do I take a pregnancy test?

Well, I would challenge you and say, do you actually need to take a pregnancy test? Or can you find the space of surrender right at the very beginning of your pregnancy and allow your body to show you its own innate wisdom, with its own signs and symptoms that come from within that you're pregnant? The pregnancy test is an external source of validation to tell us something that often we already know. If we simply wait in peaceful observation of our body, with time it will become very clear that we're pregnant or not.
