Welcome back, everyone! Joshua and Matthew are finally back with their first episode of 2022, Elvira... PART TWO! We continue our series on the endlessly fascinating life of Cassandra Peterson, more commonly known as, yes... Elvira. Sorry for such a delay when it comes to us making our entrance into the new year but we are glad to finally be giving you the new content that you all righteously deserve! Have yourself a listen and you'll hear from us in a couple of weeks with part three!
The one and only, Mistress of the Dark, ELVIRA. You've heard her name! Who is she, exactly? Well, Elvira, or her normal mortal name, Cassandra Peterson, is the quintessential symbol of all things horror. The Queen of Halloween has become one of the most influential and "outrageous" pop culture icons in the realm of the spooky and has appeared in movies, television, CDs, books, and thousands of other media and products. In September of 2021, Elvira released an autobiography; "Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark". It is this book in which Joshua and Matthew dive deep and bring you the life of our favorite horror mistress. We will span our telling of Elvira, respectfully, over a multi-part series in which we believe it is due. There is a lot of detail we don't want to gloss over for Cassandra Peterson's life deserves to be properly represented and spoken about. If horror shaped your life just like horror had shaped hers, then this book is a BUST, oh sorry, meant must. Whoopsie. Learn about her origins and upbringing in the strange and macabre. And never forget that there is life after death. Even though there will be a time that Cassandra Peterson will take an eternal rest, Elvira, the Mistress of the Dark, will live on forever, finally transcending into immortality.
Elvira, we here at The Dissector's Cut thank you for everything that you've done <3

Join Joshua and Matthew as they discuss the remake/reboot/WHATEVER, that is Evil Dead. This film was brought to life in 2013 and has terrified the world over. It has left such a hellish, bloody wake in it's path that it is impossible to not have a conversation about it. Have a seat with us as we talk about our last part and conclude our Evil Dead series!
Alright... It has been quite some time since our last episode. We apologize for the dry spell as we have had very busy schedules for awhile but we are back at it now! We were so busy in fact that October 31, otherwise known as Halloween of course, was The Dissector's Cut one year anniversary and we practically forgot! Plus, we would like to thank everyone who has participated in making this podcast the best it can be! We are nothing without our listeners! We thank you for the reviews, ratings, and to each fan who has reached out to us with information regarding our episodes. With all of that said, we bring your our third installment in the "Evil Dead" series, Army of Darkness, also known as "Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness". In this fantasy/horror/adventure/romance/comedy/WHATEVER-THE-HELL-IT-IS film, we see our protagonist, Ash Williams, travel back in time, side with a kingdom and it's denizens, fight an undead army, then unite two warring peoples and travel forward in time back to present day. Whew, talk about a crazy plot. Joshua and Matthew discuss the "usuals" - cast, crew, filming, budget, and much much more! We hope you enjoy this episode and you'll hear from us again soon!
Welcome back, everyone! Joshua and Matthew are here with their dissecting of the second film in the cult classic series, The Evil Dead, with the incredibly successful sequel, Evil Dead 2, or also known in publicity materials as, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. Just when you thought our hero, Ash Williams, had suffered enough throughout the first film, Evil Dead 2 pits him up against so much more that it easily shows the viewers how it became so successful in the first place. With reanimated loved ones, a possessed hand, cursed furniture, demons, devilish trees and vines, and even time travel... what more could you possibly need? Part horror, part comedy, Evil Dead 2 has acquired fans that will forever continue the franchise's undying and ever-growing popularity. Just as much a staple amongst "Horror Top 10's" and "Movies To Watch On Halloween", the Evil Dead series is a staple to us and must be covered on this show! Join TDC as they present to you some gifts, faster than Amazon Prime, about this fantastic film! Stay safe out there! You'll hear from us in a couple weeks with the next installment, Army of Darkness!
Joshua and Matthew are tackling quite the subject for their next few entries, The Evil Dead series, and they are starting with the progenitor; The Evil Dead. We're taken to the year 1981, where some friends go away for the weekend, find a grimoire (the necronomicon), in which demons are called upon by an ancient Sumerian chant that kill everyone but, you guessed it, the main character, Mr. Killer Jawline... and all of this happens in 85 minutes! For such a short runtime, this movie still packs such a serious punch that it'll send you flying into every IKEA shelving unit that you could possibly imagine. Well, loverboys and lovergirls, have yourself a listen while we conjure our own legion of facts, trivia, and history that went into The Evil Dead, and no, we did not mean to try and make this episode around the same runtime as the movie for a gag. That was completely on accident like the summoning of a primordial demon horde, right? Have fun! Our next installment in this series will be Evil Dead II in just a couple of weeks!
Right before the launch of our Evil Dead series, we would like to present to you our discussion about this delightfully, and creepy film, Willy's Wonderland and the brilliant Nicholas Cage's career! We hope this will hold you over until next week and be careful around any Chuck E. Cheese's restaurants!
WITNESS US as Josh and Matthew discuss a practical modern day masterpiece, Mad Max: Fury Road. If you're looking for an action pack, thrilling adventure of a movie with some fast cars, and explosions, then you can watch any Fast and Furious movie. But don't. To add to the mix, this movie takes place in a post apocalyptic world with incredible landscapes and many, many, brutal kills, something that Fast and Furious lacks no matter how many death defying stunts they do as they escape the cold grip of the reaper. This film isn't as kind, and we applaud that. Mad Max: Fury Road has been in their creator's minds and in development for so long that it's astonishing the movie was even still funded and made. The fact that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy's stunt doubles found love amongst themselves and eventually married is incredible! Want more fun facts about this movie and more on it's creation, development, cast & crew, and behind the scenes? Then listen to our episode on this wonderful MOOvie! You won't be disappointed! In a couple weeks we will be discussing another cult classic, Evil Dead! See you then!
This is it. The final part of our "25 Years Of Resident Evil" series. Joshua takes us along the final stretch of this journey by discussing the last decade of the "Resident Evil" series, both movies and games, all the way up to the mentioning of the newly announced Resident Evil: Village DLC that is in the works. The history that sleeps within this franchise is a must-know if you are any sort of an enthusiast when it comes to the world of horror, video games specifically. You know how the elders of the world mention stories from time to time by starting them with "When I was your age"?... Well, video games are practically a $100 billion industry and continuously growing and some day you just might be that elder, starting out your fascinating tale with that famous line, and explaining how the beloved horror section of video games in your town's local movie store has grown as a part of an empire, and "Resident Evil", amongst some others of course, are to thank, eternally. Enjoy this final installment into this series and we will be back in 2 weeks with Mad Max: Fury Road!
To fill the gap between part 2 and part 3 of our Resident Evil series, we present you the 2020 sci-fi/horror/thriller/drama film, Sputnik! To put it shortly, an alien comes back with a Russian cosmonaut and eventually terrorizes the residents of a military complex. There you go! Now, would you like to know more and hear our thoughts on the good and bad? Then have a listen while Joshua and Matthew discuss this incredible film!
Fun fact: This was the director's, Egor Abramenko, debut! Go give him the praise he deserves and stay tuned for Resident Evil part 3 in the coming weeks.
We are back with our second segment on our series for Resident Evil! In this episode Joshua and Matthew discuss more of the early games and movies of the franchise that had such an impact on our childhoods and some of the development processes they went through along the way. We talk about a few Easter eggs and hidden gems throughout this era in the series as well. Many games, as well as other means of entertainment, have Resident Evil to thank because without RE they might have never implemented some of the mechanics or styles brought to the media industry, more so the world of video games, or even worse... they might have never existed at all! The idea for Gears of War or even Uncharted for example might have never manifested if it wasn't for Resident Evil, more specifically, Resident Evil: 4. But we won't tell you the entire episode in this description, you'll have to listen to it yourself and let our master dissector, Josh, explain to you and his mediocre colleague, Matthew, what RE is all about!
Hang out with Joshua and Matthew while they discuss the new movie, Mortal Kombat! Currently streaming on HBO Max until May 23rd.

Alright, put down RE: Village for a bit. Yes, we know it's a great game and that Resident Evil is a franchise held near and dear to the hearts of most of the gaming community. Essentially, you get to live out your fantasy of surviving a zombie apocalypse. I mean, even the U.S. government has a plan in case of an outbreak of flesh-eating, reanimated corpses...and yes, they truly do. Go look it up for yourself. Anyway, once your done reading up on the Pentagon's living dead defense plan or if you're in the middle of one of your RE: Village game breaks, have a listen to this episode where we begin to bring you all of the fun and gory, dissected details from Capcom's biggest franchise. Resident Evil is a multifaceted cyber gem. Games, movies, animated series, you basically name it and it's there. In part 1 of this series we dive into our first round of games in the RE universe. Where it all began! We expand on the concepts that were conceived, the people that were involved, and the odd twists and turns that were taken along the path to get us to where we are now. It's a fascinating story that has only just begun. Enjoy the episode and stick around for part 2, and maybe...part 3...
In 1979, a SciFi/Horror film came bursting out into theaters that would reimagine the genre. It would redefine the limits and capabilities of the cinematic world when it came to the vast unknown that is outer space. The possibilities seemed even more endless, if one ever thought that was even possible. Then working off of the success of "Alien", 7 years later, the world was introduced to Aliens. A terrifying, action packed sequel that became a masterpiece just like it's predecessor. With a little more action and adventure than the first in this line of extraterrestrial horror films, we were gifted a bigger cast with even more characters to watch and relate to, some were even familiar faces (RIP Bill Paxton) and most of these characters were military. They were space marines. They came to do their job one way or another so when watching this film, you know what you're getting yourself into; one hell of a ride. Sigourney Weaver is back, and hasn't changed ONE. DAMN. BIT. So with all of that said, we'll let you get to it and enjoy the episode. Joshua and Matthew will walk you through this films conception, birth, reception, and even a little bit on a film idea that "was-to-be" but never made it, however, there was some talk about it in recent weeks...Anyway, if you've been sitting on this movie then let us dissect your brain a little and see if we can't change your mind on how this movie is a cinematic gem and forever will be. Take care everyone and stay safe, healthy, sexy, and...be whoever or whatever you wanna be. 2021 is on it's way to being a great year. We'll see you in a couple weeks with our first video game series, that actually had movie adaptations, Resident Evil!
In space no one can hear you scream.... that is the now famous tagline for the 1979 sci-fi/horror masterpiece, Alien. Heading back to Earth, the crew of a commercial, merchant vessel detects an unknown transmission. Once thought as an S.O.S., they soon realize it was a warning and one by one the crew are picked off by a mysterious, and dangerous, lifeform. BRACE. FOR. IMPACT! When "Alien" came crashing into the world of cinema it would eventually set the bar for creature features with it's incredible sense of isolation, dread, and suspense. To this day, Alien is regarded as one of the most pivotal films when it comes to the genre of sci-fi and horror and for some it is the absolute pinnacle. Come with us, Joshua and Matthew, as we take a ride in Nostromo 2, otherwise known as our studio, so we can present to you the lovely history behind the making of this great film. You'll hear from us soon!
Moving forward, we have finished our "Universal Monsters" series and are back with the full cinematic world at our disposal. Today we discuss a masterpiece (according to Joshua and Matthew) about an extraterrestrial trophy hunter, an otherwordly super soldier, an apex PREDATOR. Yes, students, today we are going to dissect the 1987 film, Predator. A piece of cinematic history where the world's greatest threat, man, is pitted against man's greatest threat, alien. We have been dethroned from the top of the food chain. Join us, and some horrible Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions, as we take apart the movie's history. We break down it's cast, crew, and production and throw some very interesting facts along the way. The show will now become a bi-weekly production as we spend the extra time prioritizing our association with research, work (jobs), friends and family, and simply getting our affairs in order. Stay safe, healthy and tuned, for in a couple weeks when we come back we will have another incredible film to share. Engulfed with terror, horror and isolation, Ridley Scott's, Alien.
In space no one can hear you scream.
THE FINALE. The final piece of the "Universal Monsters" puzzle. Today. Is. Creature from the Black Lagoon! In 1954 we were brought a breath of fresh air into the cinematic world of iconic horror monsters with a bipedal, amphibious, creature that was hell bent on killing anyone or anything that poses a threat to it's beloved home. You can easily see within the first minutes that this film's score, acting, storyline, and much more has only evolved and adapted in the greatest of ways just like the prehistoric creature that it documents. A truly monumental piece of film that no one can forget when the topic of "creature features" comes up at friend's parties or your parents holiday get-togethers. Have some time to...kill? Kill it with us as we dive deep, just like the creature, into this film's history. Joshua and Matthew bring some interesting facts up to the surface for us land dwellers to enjoy. Next week we will be discussing one of TDC's all time favorite films that falls into the horror/scifi genre, Predator. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger among many other familiar faces, this 1987 film brought a formidable new creature to the monster mash that is Hollywood Horror. See you all next week.
In this short episode, Joshua and Matthew talk about a short film that has been gaining some traction lately, and that is "The Stylist". Starring, Najarra Townsend, IMDB describes the movie as follows: A lonely hair stylist becomes obsessed with the lives of her clients and descends into murderous madness. Lets just say that two lonely podcasters are obsessed with the movies starring Najarra Townsend and they descend into cinema madness. There's a lot to unpack during the 15:00 minute runtime of this film so have yourself a listen and enjoy! Stay tuned for the final episode of our Universal Monsters series when we discuss The Creature From The Black Lagoon!

Oh, what do we have here today? We have a movie that paved the way for one of the most famous fabled beasts the world has ever known, the pinnacle where human emotions, ethics, and morals are forgotten and the savage beast that resides in all of us finally takes over. We are talking about the 1941 film, The Wolfman. See, Dracula, Frankenstein and all the other legends of monster horror are savants to their respected kin, meaning that Dracula is THE vampire, Frankenstein is THE abomination, the Phantom is THE romantic killer, and so on....but the wolfman is one of many. A legion if you will. A shaping brutality that has crept along the divide of myth and reality for millenia. We discuss some fantastical facts about the film and it's cast and crew, along with how it's initial release was...untimely. Stick around and listen to our surgeons Joshua and Matthew dissect the true OG when it comes to werewolf films. Next week we will be diving into out final piece of the Universal Monster series, the 1954 creature feature, The Creature From The Black Lagoon. You won't want to miss it, I assure you.
