So many women are accidentally under-eating!
In this episode I discuss why this is happening for women, the consequences of under-fueling and not consuming adequate food, specifically our macro nutrients and how to structure your plate so that you can turn this trajectory around!
If you’re feeling fatigued, mentally drained and sluggish - this episode could be just what you need to hear!
We discuss intermittent fasting and my thoughts on cleanses, skipping meals, the common ’healthy’ woman’s daily diet and how inadequate it can be, and how eating this way can be the cause of hormonal health changes, thyroid changes and blood sugar regulation issues.
Is the invention of hormonal birth control one of the most empowering moments in history for women, or is a medication that has moved us further away from reverence for women and our rights than ever?
Listen in on this episode to hear about my personal experience with the pill (and implanon) as a woman (rather than as a practitioner), my perspective on how I feel the use of the pill is a huge reflection of the way we handle women’s health as a society in general and what I believe I’ll say to my teenage daughter‘s of the future about their cycle and contraception.
This is a candid, no pre-set notes style conversation where I share authentically and intimately about my own experiences and also open space to ask for yours. If you listen in to this episode and feel called to share your story or your opinion on this piece, please do reach out via Instagram or email (info@katieholohan.com), I’d love to hear from you.
Who sets the standard for your health?
This is a BIG question.
Living in a first world country, it’s understood early on that we should be able to expect a certain standard when it comes to food and water safety and quality, but who sets this standard and is it high enough for you?
In this episode, I consider topics such as privilege, comparison and collective mentality when it comes to our purchasing decisions around food and the quality we aim to consume.
It’s a conversation in which I share my personal philosophy and values (particularly around water and food quality), in the hope to inspire curious reflection for you on who/what has set the standard for you when it comes to your own.
Within the episode I mention the Waters Co water filtration system. You can find the Waters Co filters HERE.
BUSTED - Five of the top misconceptions I hear in the female hormonal health realm.
1. PMS/period pain or disruption during your periods is normal.
2. You can get pregnant any time you have unprotected intercourse (little ears warning on this one, unprotected sex and pregnancy is discussed in detail so you may want to listen alone, then have conversations with daughters post-listen in age appropriate language).
3. The ‘pill’ regulates your hormones.
4. If you have PCOS/endometriosis/heavy menstruation/low iron that the pill is your only option.
5. That PCOS can be diagnosed from an ultrasound.
In unpacking these myths I discuss some really important concepts for women’s health.
- What is a ‘normal period’?
- How much is ‘normal’ bleeding?
- Your fertile days and how to find them as well as Fertility Awareness Method (FAM)
- What the pill is actually doing to your hormones.
- The importance of our cycle now, for predicting out longevity and quality of life as a woman in the future.
- The blood test you need to see before diagnosing PCOS
- The four driving causes to PCOS
This episode is also a MUST listen for parents of daughters, particularly mother’s of daughters.

This is a really powerful episode for those of you who have been battling with iron deficiency.
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies found in women. It affects SO many women worldwide and unfortunately for many women who are suffering, not a whole lot of information is being provided when it comes to treatment options and underlying causes for the condition.
In this solo episode I share:
- How to investigate and interpret your iron pathology.
- The limitations of common treatment options provided at the GP or pharmacy.
- Common reasons why your iron is not improving.
- The most prevalent underlying causes of iron deficiency for women.
- Newer and more updated ways to treat your iron deficiency including supplements, dosage and cofactors to support with.
If you are interested in walking alongside me to correct your low iron or heavy menstrual cycles, then I invite you to join me inside The Being Woman Program, which you can find details for and book a free call to chat about HERE.
