Olympic bronze medallist Alex Haydock-Wilson joins Tommy to talk about what really happens after you achieve your biggest dreams. In this honest and powerful conversation, we explore life after the Olympics, the emotional highs and lows of elite sport, and why Alex is choosing to prioritise mental health, authenticity, and joy in running as he looks ahead to the next chapter.
They dive into what it means to redefine success, how to navigate the come down after Olympic glory, and the importance of staying grounded in a world that constantly pushes athletes to chase results.
Whether you’re an elite athlete or an everyday runner, this episode is a reminder that medals aren’t everything and the real win is often invisible.

Head out to the hills of Washington State for a casual catch up with Tommy and a reflection on how the privilege and opportunity to head to the US for a race is not lost on him.
Ever wondered what it’d be like to take the Ring to Mordor?
Tommy chats with trail runner James Norbury, who did exactly that - dressed as a hobbit, alongside his friend Alex, on a unique mission to blend adventure with fun. James dives into the highs and lows of the journey, the importance of not taking yourself too seriously, and why joy should always be at the heart of running. From epic trails to unexpected challenges, this is a conversation about adventure, playfulness, and the magic that happens when you stop worrying about pace and start enjoying your surroundings.

Most runners know they should be doing strength work.
But they either:
– Don’t know where to start
– Don’t have confidence in the gym
– Or end up winging it, hoping it helps.
And when the niggles hit… or progress stalls… they blame their shoes, or their sleep, or tell themselves they just need to try harder.
I’ve been there. I’ve coached people through it. And it’s exactly why I became a personal trainer and running coach.
If you're tired of guessing your way through training… if you feel disconnected from your body… and you know you need a better structure, more strength, and a clearer reason to keep showing up - this is for you.
If you want help turning that around, everything you need to get started is in the link below.
Thanks again for your support! 🫶

In this solo episode, Tommy explores the complex relationship between running and the internet. As a runner of 12 years who once kept his miles private and offline, he reflects on how much the running world has changed with the rise of apps, social media, and constant connectivity. Starting with the downsides such as comparison culture, curated identities, and data obsession, he unpacks the ways online life can quietly distort the joy of running. Tommy also speaks to the unexpected gifts of the digital age including connection, knowledge, opportunity, and the ability to share the beauty of the sport. A thoughtful take on the past, present, and future of running in the online world.

Sometimes we need to be slapped around by life to truly learn. In this one, Tommy reflects on his week of dealing with a persistent and, at times, debilitating headache, his trip to A&E to seek a diagnosis, collapsing at home, and the reality check of health scares. He touches on the dangers of pushing too hard when you just shouldn't, why he feels motivated to do so (both positively and negatively), and how even a minor scare on a wednesday afternoon can have you reflecting deeply on the important things.

Why does the running world get so uncomfortable when a “gym bro” signs up for an ultra?
In this episode, Tommy is joined by Brian Peterson - host of Wolfie’s World on Borderlands - for a provocative and thoughtful conversation about tribalism in endurance culture, the stereotypes we attach to strength athletes, and why we need to rid the sport of this gatekeeping!
Together, they unpack the tension between ultra-running’s gritty, minimalist identity and the bold, often aesthetic-driven gym culture that some fear is encroaching on the sport. They discuss the benefits of strength training, the roots of anti-gym sentiment in the running world, and public figures like Nick Bare and William Goodge - including Goodge’s controversial FKT attempt across Australia, and why he attracts so much scrutiny.
This episode explores ego, insecurity, and the unconscious gatekeeping that exists in both running and gym communities. Expect hot takes, honest reflection, and plenty to chew on - whether you lift heavy, run long, or both.

Recorded from a local public park, Tommy shows he’s not immune to worrying what people think either. Whether it's lacing up for a run, filming a reel, or shifting careers from corporate to coaching, that voice of doubt is always there.
This isn’t just about running - it’s about identity, vulnerability, and showing up even when you feel ridiculous. Tommy shares personal stories, from awkward public filming to the fear of posting online, and offers honest reflections and practical tools for anyone who’s ever felt too self-conscious to begin.
This is an episode for the overthinkers and anyone trying to move through the world with more freedom and less fear.

This one picks up right after the race. Brim made it through the night, through the day and into the second night. Having climbed 4 mountains, travelled ~100km and climbed and descended 6500m, his gut took drivers seat and started dictating his race. Tommy was there when it happened and saw first hand the lengths Brim continues to push in the sport he adores. A week later, Brim and Tommy sat down to chat about the whole experience.
From the physical to the emotional, they unpack what it’s like to DNF after giving everything, what went wrong with nutrition, what went right, and how he’s processing it all now.
Although there was no finish line this time, this is not a story of failure, this is a story of massive progress, of Personal Records and triumph over an issue that would force 99% of ultra runners to quit the sport, but not Brim. It’s a real, human one. They talk disappointment, reflection, reframing failure to see it as something to fire you up, and the quiet resilience it takes to keep showing up.
If you've ever fallen short of a big goal, this one will hit home.

After months of training and high hopes for MIUT 115, Tommy DNF’d just 26km into the race following an ankle sprain. In this raw and reflective solo episode, he shares the story behind what felt like his first real DNF - what happened, how it felt, and why it might be the most important race he didn’t finish. But this isn’t just a race recap. It’s a deeper conversation about failure, identity, self-imposed pressure, and the fire that comes when things don’t go to plan. Tommy explores why desire matters more than perfection, why predictable stories don’t inspire us, and how this experience has sharpened his focus heading into Devil’s Gulch. If you’ve ever fallen short of a goal or feared not living up to your own expectations, this one’s for you.

This one’s a little different. Ben Brimmer is a good mate of Tommy's, and instead of the usual setup, they've recorded this episode out in the mountains - just two friends chatting about running, purpose, and everything in between.
Brim opens up about some of the harder chapters of his ultra journey - running to the point of hospitalisation, the burnout that followed, and what it felt like to lose the “why” and regain it again.
They went into how Brim has massively overcome his gut issues during endurance efforts and what have the biggest changes to his fuelling strategy on these big mountain efforts. With a better relationship to running, a healthier mindset, and a fresh perspective on what really matters.
It’s raw, honest, and full of the kind of reflections you only get when you’re moving through the mountains with a mate.

There's a "show & tell" with Tommy's new favourite purchase for his upcoming race, and a hot discussion topic from Josh on the return of Katie Schide and Germain Grangier to the On trail team.
Both bring some thought provoking questions about running, trails, social media and what's good for us.

This one’s for you - the listeners, the question-askers, the curious minds behind the 250,000+ streams, 30 episodes, 12.5K subscribers/followers, and the frankly outrageous 4.9/5 ratings across Spotify and Apple. Thank you for being part of this.
In this episode, Tommy dives into a massive backlog of listener questions. Some he answers quickly, others he rambles on a bit. Think training structure, strength splits, rest days, VO2 max (or lack of interest in it), mental toughness, post-ultra meals, and whether all Tommy's shoes are low-drop.

Explore the crucial difference between pain and suffering and why that distinction matters so much in training, racing, and life. Pain is the raw sensation. Suffering is the story we tell ourselves about it. Drawing from both research and real-world examples (including the kitchen floor, gym sessions, and lonely ultras), Tommy shares practical tools to reframe discomfort and lean into it with more awareness, less resistance, and a lot more power.

Tommy got his first DNF (Did Not Finish) this weekend at Lone Wolf South East. What happened? Did he injure himself? Has it ruined his path to 100 miles this summer? Or did he make the right call early enough? Find out on this episode as he recounts his training leading up to the race in the months, weeks and days prior, and talks though the event itself.
We also have our second edition of RunBiz, this time with Lee Proctor of INOV8, where we talk about INOV8's origin story, what Fell Running actually is, and where INOV8 is focused in the coming months.
The RunBiz Segment is an occasional feature on That’s Runnable, where we spotlight the businesses shaping the world of running. From innovative startups to established brands doing something different, this segment is all about showcasing the gear, nutrition, technology, and services that runners might find interesting.
Tommy will chat with founders, team members, and industry insiders - not for a sales pitch, but for a real conversation about what they’re building, why it matters, and how it fits into the running world. Whether it’s a niche brand with a cult following or a fresh idea making waves, RunBiz is here to give listeners a look behind the scenes at the businesses fuelling our sport.
