Reflecting on Square Hole: Beginning to Learn and Understanding a Diagnosis

As an Art Director/Photographer and Illustrator/Educator, Lorna and Jhinuk unveil their own perspectives on how Neurodiverse traits are attributed to their creative careers. In these combined episodes, they listen back and reflect on points throughout the interview that have directly affected their learning of Neurodiversity, particularly in their own creative processes as well as its impact on the industry at large. In this episode, Lorna and Jhinuk respond to establishing what it means to be Neurodiverse, whilst exploring the impact that a diagnosis has on creative practices. They also uncover some experiences that had started an explorative, emotional journey for Neurodiverse creatives. That journey focuses in on their education, how they found the courage to own and feel empowered by their learning differences.

Brixton Finishing School was set up in 2017 by former Unruly and MailOnline ad exec Ally Owen. BFS’s mission is to find young talent, from underrepresented groups and provide them with tools to enter the, often homogenous, world of advertising and digital marketing.Partnering with agencies BFS helps to prepare and support students giving them the best opportunity and connections to step into those roles knowing that more diverse teams at agencies produce better creative returns.

Kati is a professional project manager based in Bristol, with a background in working as a Disability Adviser for Goldsmiths University and University of the Arts London. Kati draws on her experience working in Higher Education Institutions with a creative and design focus , to describe how she supported creative students. This a really insightful conversation, touching on students getting tested and diagnosed with Neurodiverse conditions, as well as the varying kinds of support available to help these creatives navigate their learning experience at university.

Neuk Collective is a Scottish based group of neurodivergent artists that look to focus and advocate for neurodivergent people working in the arts.
