68. Are Comedians Actually Depressed? Death, Grief, and Comedy ft. Kuah Jenhan

Are comedians really just depressed people hiding behind humour? I sat down with Malaysian comedian Kuah Jenhan to talk about the real side of comedy: dealing with grief, performing days after losing his dad, and why death is actually hilarious.

This conversation went deeper than expected. We talked about his 20-year journey in Malaysian standup, how social media is changing comedy, and his show about his late father that he rewrote after almost a decade.

If you've ever wondered what comedians are really like off stage, or why the funniest people seem to carry the heaviest stories - this one's for you.

🌼 Find out more about my new 1-on-1 Coaching Program: https://coaching.wendyvaz.com/

🍊 Subscribe to my Newsletter: https://wendyvaz.substack.com/

Let's be real… we've all thought about leaving our job before, but we always feel like we can't quit because we need the money to survive. So we tell ourselves "we can't afford to quit our job."

But what if the real question you should be asking yourself is: "Can you afford NOT to quit your job today?"

In this episode, I'm sharing reflection questions for your personal and professional growth—the same questions that helped me when I was stuck deciding whether to leave my corporate job. (Spoiler alert: I did quit, and here's what I learned.)

It always feels scary being vulnerable about major life decisions online. But when I started this podcast, my intention was to create a safe space where we can discuss these huge adulting experiences together.

I hope this episode inspires you to ask yourself the hard questions about your career and maybe make a bolder move for your future self 😉

Questions/Journal Prompts from the Episode:

  1. Where do you see yourself 10, 20, or 30 years from now?
  2. Financially, can you afford to continue with your current salary and annual increment rate?
  3. What does your professional growth look like in your current role and company?
  4. If your workplace is toxic, can you afford to keep neglecting your health and well-being by staying?
  5. What is the opportunity cost of staying where you are?
  6. Do you have a dream you've always wanted to pursue—something you'd regret not trying?
  7. What does your financial runway look like if you quit?
  8. If you want to become an entrepreneur, are you prepared for potentially earning 50–80% less for 2–3 years while working twice as hard?
  9. Can you really afford not to bet on yourself?

64. Feeling Behind in Life? 3 Lessons My Friends Taught Me | VANCOUVER VLOG + PODCAST

Ever feel like everyone else is getting married, buying houses, or having kids… while you’re still figuring things out? This episode is your reminder that you’re not behind—you’re on your own timeline.

In this episode, I’m combining the vlog from my recent Vancouver trip with a short sharing of the 3 biggest life lessons I’ve learned by simply observing my friends during my travel. I got to really assimilate myself into my friends’ daily lives and here’s what I learned:

  • Why you don’t need the “latest” or “best” to live a good life
  • How doing more of what you love builds a happy life
  • And the most personal one—why if you want something, you should just go for it

Whether you’re struggling with comparison, redefining success in your 30s, or simply curious about my recent trip, this episode is for you.

63. How Authentic Connections Brought Me Back to Vancouver (Manifestation Story)

This episode is one of the most personal and magical stories I’ve ever shared. I recently flew to Vancouver for my close friends’ wedding — a trip I never thought I could afford this year. But the universe had other plans. Through the power of love as a currency, adult friendships, and intentional manifestation, everything aligned. From a surprise flight sponsor to friends opening their homes, this was a real-life manifestation success story.✨

I talk about:

  • How to manifest free travel
  • Deepening and sustaining adult friendships
  • What it means to manifest with love, not lack
  • Choosing peace over regret
  • Reflecting on “what could have been” while loving the life you’ve built
  • A surprise Law of Attraction moment in 2025 with someone who changed my life

Whether you’re into manifestation, personal growth, or just need a warm, inspiring story about genuine human connection — this one’s for you.

62. Hot Tub Talks: Intentions and Connections (Reunited with Kendall!)

In this cozy reunion episode, we're soaking in the hot tub and diving deep into real talk about setting intentions vs. goals, nurturing long-distance friendships, and prioritizing wellness.🌼😌

During my recent trip to Vancouver (I'll be sharing more about this in the next episode), I was able to catch up with a dear old university friend of mine, Kendall McLaughlin. Kendall and I met through musical theater (we were both in the chorus of a 9 to 5 musical and our university's acappella group) in first year, and throughout my 4 years of university life, we've done countless fun and crazy things together (she's that friend who would do crazy things like Undie Run and No Pants Skytrain day with me 🤪), so reuniting with her after 9 years felt amazing.

This episode was recorded very candidly and spontaneously when we were talking about intentions in the hot tub, and I was enjoying our conversation so much that I wanted to invite you (my listeners) into a snippet of my real-life catch-up session with an old friend.

Join us as we catch up with Kendall, reflect on our recent journeys, talk about giving wedding speeches, and discuss Kendall's intention to focus more on physical health and how to make it fun. Whether you're on your own self-growth journey or missing that one friend you haven't seen in a while—this one's for you.🧡

57. I Broke My Back… Here’s What I Learned | Life Lessons on Healing, Resilience & Letting Go

Welcome back to Small Girl, Big Talk! 🌼

I’m returning to the podcast with a deeply personal story—something that happened during my seasonal pod break. I fractured my spine while bouldering and was forced to slow down, focusing entirely on healing.

I went from being super independent—podcasting, climbing, and planning my wedding—to wearing a brace, struggling to shower, and needing help with even the most basic things. It was frustrating, humbling, and ultimately forced me to slow down, surrender, and truly rest for the first time in years.

In this episode, I’m sharing what this injury taught me—how I went from resisting rest to embracing it, how trusting the healing process got me through the hardest weeks, and most importantly, how this journey has completely reshaped my perspective on health, patience, and personal growth.

Trust me, It wasn’t easy at all to take things slow while everyone else was buzzing with new year energy, ready to kick ass with their goals 😭

If this episode resonates with you, let me know—I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you for being here—you have no idea how much it means to me 🥹🧡

📒 BOOK I MENTIONED: Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman

In this episode, we’re diving into the power of acceptance as part of our series, Foundations for a Fresh Start. This series is all about exploring topics that lay the groundwork for an incredible 2025, and today’s conversation is one that can truly transform the way you live your life.

We’ll explore what it means to accept that we can’t control everything that happens to us. From releasing the grip on our past identity to letting go of societal expectations of what our life "should" look like, this episode is all about finding freedom in surrender. I’ll also dive into the idea that our time on this earth is limited, which makes it all the more important to live intentionally and focus on what truly matters.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, weighed down by perfectionism, or like you’re constantly chasing an unattainable ideal, this episode is here to remind you that acceptance isn’t about giving up—it’s about leaning into the flow of life. When you let go, you create space for the dream life you’ve always wanted to unfold naturally.

Together, we’ll uncover the beauty of acceptance and how it can help you manifest a life that feels truly aligned with your purpose. Let’s take that first step toward living with more ease and intention as we set the stage for an incredible new year ahead!

🌼 JOIN THE BIG TALK SOCIETY NOW: patreon.com/sgbt 🧡

As we approach the end of the year, we’re wrapping up the season with a series called Foundations for a Fresh Start—where we’ll dive into topics that lay the groundwork for an incredible 2025.

We’re kicking off this series with a theme that hits close to home: PERFECTIONISM.

If you’ve ever felt held back by the need to have everything figured out before you even start, or if the fear of not being “good enough” has kept you from pursuing your dreams, this episode is for you.

Together, we’ll explore three essential mindset shifts to help you finally break free from perfectionism and create with confidence. We’ll talk about why it’s okay not to have all the answers, why embracing imperfection is the key to growth, and how to stop letting your self-worth be defined by your results. These are actionable steps I’ve learned and lived, and I’m here to share them in the hope that they unlock something within you, too.

If you’re ready to let go of the need for perfection, join The Big Talk Society—a community where we lift each other up, support each other’s growth, and celebrate progress over perfection. Let’s create a space where we can be real, vulnerable, and, most importantly, fearless on our journeys.
