The Work Episode 32 - Vegans and Venison

What’s up, y’all — in this episode, Greg and I kick things off with some good ol’ Saturday morning nostalgia: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DuckTales, cereal boxes, and childhood memories. Then we shift gears into what’s happening around the compound and what’s coming down the pipeline.

It’s been “spring cleaning in the fall” season here at Keto Brick HQ — clearing out, organizing, and getting ready for a strong close to the year. We’ve got two new Brick flavors dropping before year’s end (one brand new, one long-awaited favorite making its comeback), and we couldn’t be more excited to share those.

We’re also gearing up for Hack Your Health in Tampa — I’ll be speaking on the food addiction panel, and we’re planning to link up with some old friends and maybe even get a lift in while we’re there. In the meantime, I’ve got deer camp this weekend to fill the freezer and new feeder pigs arriving soon for the homestead. Never a dull moment.

We spend some time talking about the pushback from vegans on social media lately — and I make it clear where I stand: I’m all about regenerative agriculture, raising animals ethically, and honoring the life that feeds us. I don’t advocate for factory farming — I advocate for stewardship, self-sufficiency, and doing things the right way.

From there, Greg and I dive into business and training updates. We’re ramping up Keto Bodybuilding content and marketing, relaunching Live Savage Apparel with a totally new look, planning next year’s retreats (including an entrepreneurial one), and I’m finally recording the audiobook version of my book for Audible.

On the fitness front, we’re running a new training split that’s absolutely brutal in the best way — heavy squats, hip thrusts, lunges, and hypertrophy work. I’m hitting lifetime PRs and feeling strong. We’re tweaking the workout app to make tracking smoother, scheduling bloodwork and Dexa scans, and already thinking ahead to prep in 2027.

We talk a lot about order and alignment — getting the environment clean, systems dialed in, and priorities locked before the next phase of growth. Whether it’s the gym, business, or homestead, everything runs smoother when you take the time to clear out the clutter and tighten things up.

I also get personal toward the end — sharing some thoughts on parenting Rigel and figuring out how to discipline without breaking his spirit. There’s no manual for this stuff, but I’m learning that patience, consistency, and presence go a long way.

We close things out with plans for deer camp, hiking, and a reminder to embrace the building phase — in training, in business, and in life.

Main Takeaways:

  • Two new Keto Brick flavors on the way

  • Hack Your Health prep + travel plans

  • Live Savage Apparel relaunch incoming

  • Regenerative agriculture > factory farming

  • Hitting new PRs and refining the workout app

  • 2026: Build the systems — 2027: Go all in on prep

  • Stay organized, stay disciplined, stay resolute

In short: this episode is all about resolve — cleaning house, sharpening focus, and putting everything in order to grow stronger in every area of life.

Savage Perspective Podcast
The Work Podcast Episode 31- Robert Gets Old

This week, Greg and I are back at it—bundled up in hoodies, talking through our new six-day training split. We’ve officially settled into a rhythm that feels rock-solid: structured, heavy, and sustainable. No program hopping, no gimmicks—just the basics done right and tracked with precision. I’m actually logging everything in the new app for once, and I love seeing the total volume and progression data stack up over time. The plan is to run this through the next six months and analyze how much strength and muscle we build before the next cut.

We also dive into the mental side of building season—embracing that “fed” phase without letting it get sloppy. Coming out of a show, it’s always tough seeing the scale creep up and the definition fade, but this is where real growth happens. The goal is to stay strategic, keep body fat within a reasonable range, and focus on true performance metrics in the gym.

Tomorrow’s my 34th birthday, and we’re celebrating with a Keto Brick “pizza party” team day—bonfire, hoodies, keto pizzas, and good people. I’m also doing something spontaneous and fun: from now until the end of October, every Keto Brick order gets a random cash bill tucked inside. Could be a $1 bill or a $100 bill—just a little birthday giveaway to give back to the community.

We touch on TV habits, disconnecting from the world, and how true rest comes from meaningful activity—whether that’s training, hunting, or just unplugging. We talk about getting older, too, but in a good way—stronger, smarter, and more intentional each year. Huge shout-out to Joe Davis, who just set state and national powerlifting records at age 54, proving that age really is just a number when you live this lifestyle right.

We’re also planning a Tough Mudder retreat in Austin for the end of February—an intimate, hands-on “meat-up” with training, grilling, and good conversation. Between that, some deep cleaning at the brick facility, new software rollouts, and a secret brand launch on the horizon, there’s a lot in motion here at Keto Savage HQ.

To wrap it up, we brainstormed creating a mini-course on how to track macros properly—covering the basics of scales, portions, and common mistakes. It’s something simple that could make a huge difference for folks starting out.

Another great episode in the books—steady progress, good food, and plenty of fire ahead.

The Work Podcast Episode 30 - Our New Split!

This week Greg and I kicked things off with some laughs — nursery rhymes, glazed donut Keto Brick madness, and a flood of orders rolling in. Then we got serious about training strategy. Greg’s three weeks post-show, I’m deep in a building phase, and we’re both mapping out a long runway toward our next competition in 2027. We talked about why competing every single year can hold you back, especially as a natural athlete — you simply can’t grow if you’re always cutting.

From there, we broke out the notebooks and built a brand-new training split live on air: a six-day heavy/hypertrophy rotation designed to maximize growth and recovery. We walked through our personal weak points (mine’s chest and delts, Greg’s working glutes and hamstrings) and laid out specific movements, rep ranges, and structure — from heavy compound lifts to slow, controlled hypertrophy work.

We also dove into metrics, tracking progress, and why ego lifting kills longevity. The plan includes the split, the lifts, and cardio days, maybe some rock climbing for fun conditioning. By the end, we had a full system ready to plug into the Keto Brick training app for anyone who wants to follow along.

Big takeaways: prioritize long-term growth, train with intention, and don’t be afraid to get technical. This new phase is about getting stronger, smarter, and better every single session.

The Work Podcast Episode 29 - Glizzy Dizzy Drop

This week on The Work Podcast Greg and I kick things off with some gym-talk about muscle control, ear-wiggling, and why you can’t really flex a muscle until you’ve built it. Then we dive into the Olympia weekend — big shout-out to my client and friend Joe Davis for crushing it on that stage. We also touch on the massive divide between enhanced and natural bodybuilding and why I’ll always believe natural bodybuilding is one of the healthiest sports you can do.

From there, we pivot to a little life balance — I share some lessons from “Squirrel Camp,” unplugging in the woods, recharging, and getting a few divine-intervention-style insights for what’s next. We also talk through our brand-new Glazed Donut Keto Brick (aka the “Glizzy Dizzy”) launching this Sunday — tallow-based, warm, doughy, and downright delicious. Easily one of our best yet.

We cover some nutrition talk, fasting tweaks, and why alternate-day eating keeps things interesting. Then we get into a real-world rant on modern healthcare, the broken insurance system, and how platforms like Crowd Health are flipping the model to actually reward people for staying healthy.

Toward the end we lighten it up with stories from our team dinner at Texas de Brazil, plans for a Keto Pizza Night, and a serious reminder about safety after my brother’s recent motorcycle accident — helmets are cool, folks.

Glizzy Dizzy drops this Sunday at noon CST — mark your calendars, grab one while you can, and we’ll catch you in the next episode!

The Work Podcast Episode 28 - Gyms, Travel, & Updates

Greg just got back from Las Vegas, and we kicked things off swapping stories from his trip. He hit up the legendary Dragon’s Lair gym — all red and black, packed with Arsenal equipment, and complete with a lobby full of keto-friendly meal prep and supplements. He even linked up with Joe Davis, who was out there competing at the Olympia. Greg also caught The Eagles live at the Sphere, which sounded absolutely insane — a full 360-degree visual experience that blew him away. Oh, and he hit a jackpot on Fremont Street, so the trip practically paid for itself.

He stayed pretty tight with his nutrition while traveling, keeping it keto the whole time but loosening up on tracking macros. He even found a legit keto bakery called Starburst Parlor where everything was made from scratch with clean ingredients — cookies, donuts, pizza, ice cream, all made right. He came home feeling good, no crash, no regrets, and a much-needed mental reset after months of strict prep.

Now that he’s back, it’s time to get back in routine — back to Ozark, back to structure, and back into the reverse diet. He’s about 15 pounds up from show weight and already sweating out the travel bloat. We talked about setting up a solid offseason plan: structured training, progressive overload, and adding a belt squat/functional trainer to round out the gym. Both of us are fired up to make 2026 a big building year.

We also tossed around ideas for a Live Savage “Meat and Mud” retreat — a Tough Mudder weekend in Austin with the crew, plenty of hard work followed by a big meat feast. On top of that, we’re locking in next year’s competition dates, teasing a brand-new Keto Brick flavor, and rolling out a new software system to keep the business running smoother than ever.

I’ve got some homestead projects rolling too — planning to bring in a few pigs, maybe film the process too. Between that, Squirrel Camp, and all the Keto Brick projects behind the scenes, things are busy in the best possible way.

The team’s growing, the systems are tightening up, and the vision’s getting sharper every week. Big things are coming — for Live Savage, for Keto Brick, and for everyone walking this path with us.

The Work Episode 27 - Greg Goes Pro?!

This week we’re recapping an absolutely incredible weekend at the inaugural 2025 Natural State Savages bodybuilding competition. Greg walked away with first place in Masters Classic Physique and earned his WNBF pro card—at 45 years old, no less! He also placed fourth in a stacked open class, proving just how competitive the show was.

We share what it felt like both behind the scenes and on stage—how smooth everything ran, the camaraderie backstage, and why this show already feels like it’s set a new standard. From professional photography and packed audiences to legit swag bags and even a smoked barbecue feast for competitors, judges, and fans, we pulled out all the stops to make this first show unforgettable.

We dive into the prep, the nutrition strategy that kept Greg full and sharp without the typical carb crashes, and why keto continues to shine as a bodybuilding approach. We also reflect on the emotional side—hearing competitors and tribe members share their experiences, watching first-timers step on stage with pride, and seeing the confidence and life transformation that comes from putting yourself through this challenge.

This wasn’t just a competition—it was a community event, a celebration, and the start of something that’s only going to get bigger. 2026 is already on the horizon, and we can’t wait to make it even better.

The Work Podcast Episode 26 - Peak Week

This week’s episode is short and sweet because it’s peak week and the show is right around the corner. Greg’s feeling all the prep fatigue - hungry, irritable, and sore - but also the leanest and best he’s ever looked. We talk about how to bounce back after slip-ups, why you don’t “slash all four tires” when you get a flat, and how consistency pays off.

We share some behind-the-scenes details about the inaugural show: we hit our goal of 30 competitors, stacked pro-qualifying classes, and even a live stream for those who can’t attend in person. It’s been stressful, sleep-deprived, and expensive, but we’re making this first year unforgettable so it can only grow from here.

On a personal note, I talk about my sleep struggles, using a chili pad to stay cool at night, and even building a chicken yard in the rain while sore and exhausted. We also go over Greg’s peak week plan - cardio taper, show-day nutrition with fatty coffees, bacon, eggs, and timed bricks, plus electrolytes and creatine.

Finally, we look ahead to the offseason build. Stage photos will be huge for tracking progress and weak points, and the tribe calls are going to shift into structured reverse dieting and growth. No matter the results this weekend, I’m proud of Greg for pushing through, helping run the show, and setting the stage for an incredible building year ahead.

Savage Perspective Podcast
Poop & Gut Expert: How Processed Food Is Destroying Your Gut Health

Discover how eating only ultra-processed foods for 30 days can tank your testosterone by 30% and cause a 5.5x increase in dangerous visceral fat, even when calories and weight stay the same. In episode 817 of the Savage Perspective Podcast, your host Robert Sikes sits down with Throne founder Scott Hickle to reveal the shocking truth about how the standard American diet impacts your hormones, gut health, and mood. Scott shares the results of his 30-day experiment, discusses the future of health tracking, and explains how analyzing your poop can provide incredible insights into your body's performance and help detect hidden diseases like colon cancer.
