My guest for this episode is Sarah Kelsey, Host of The OneUp Project Podcast & Marketing Coordinator at MacroActive™, a fantastic human who has in her short time made some pretty brave decisions, shared with some amazing guests on her poddy and is passionate about the community she has made, aimed to get young people excited about sorting out traditionally boring stuff!
What I love about Sarah is that she is all things this poddy is about, imperfect, whole human, and real in the very best ways, vulnerable and open so others can learn and grow from and with her

If you have <6mins to spare I share why “I suck at some things and that’s ok”. This topic was brought about by a back to back of extremes I experienced across a couple of meetings I had last week. I share this to highlight that you can come off a high, hit a low, and find it within yourself to reset, with kindness and hindsight, if you create the right space and have the right mindset
I know so many mentees have struggled with setbacks, perhaps an opinion from a manager or colleague, a presentation gone wrong, or a role they had their heart on not secured.
So this is a little check in on how I dealt with this situation, my learnings and takeaways that I hope will not only help, but provide you with some confidence for that next little judder bar when you stumble across it.
In the episode I cover 3 learnings and provide 3 tips, that can help if you find yourself in a valley
For any comments, questions or inquiries, drop me an email at rosey@customisetalent.com or send me a voice memo https://anchor.fm/roseyonrecruitment/message
I hope you enjoy my imperfect, whole human, realness sharing

My guest for this episode is Kate Billing, Humanist, Leadership Specialist & Founder of New Zealand’s 7th BCorp. She puts the tricky business of being fully human at the centre of how we live, lead, and work.
Kate was the first Senior woman I featured for InfinPoss.com, the social enterprise I established to showcase New Zealand women in leadership, and provide mentoring circles for entry and mid level women before I began my journey with Her Career.

“How to stand out as a candidate” has advice that can be used by anyone at any time. There are takeaways that will help not only to stand out in an interview, but to deepen professional relationships, connect with who you are now, and to plan for where you want to go.
As I work with candidates across different levels of expertise there may be some tips here you are aware of, but I challenge you to consider if you’re practicing all that you know in these areas, that can help you on your trajectory.
Even if you have been at some pretty high highs, don’t get complacent. A career climb can be easy in that, the climb. But once you have achieved some goals, and have expectations of what that can mean for next steps, know that the competition can get tougher. Working with some pretty senior people recently, it has been great to add value in those skills that they don’t understand how to articulate, and giving them the confidence to do so in ways that are aligned to next steps, sharing through the framework I provide, and the practice and we perform.
So whether you’re looking for your first role, a grad, or moving from a Head of into a C-Suite role, there’s something here for you in the 4 tips I share:

My guest for this episode is Dean Anderson, Founder and CEO of Kernel who, after a number of years in the investment world, realised that investment options needed to improve and investors deserved better.
Taking a fresh approach to the wealth management space Dean created Kernel, a digital wealth solution where innovation meets investment. The Kernel team is passionate about helping investors achieve financial freedom, and also have their own podcast It’s No Secret, where I was luckily enough to share as a guest.

My guest today is Mikayla Hopkins who also joined me on episode 5. When I thought about hitting this milestone 50th episode, I absolutely had to share this significant occasion with her.
We’re also going to throw it back a little to our old Her Career poddy with an initial check in chat and a couple of recommendations.
Lots has been happening for Mikayla recently, she has embraced an opportunity that will see her move into a new intrapreneurial role soon, and this has meant recruiting for a Marketing Manager role with The Face Place that she is departing from, she shares some great insights around this, and also in this episode we also cover:
Mikayla inspires and empowers others at all levels of their career, as a warm, generous, ambitious, intelligent, curious and continuously growing human, I absolutely adore her, and I know you will after this sharing too
Remember to head on over to my YouTube channel for the full raw interview, this podcast is only about ½ of what we shared, with podcasting geek outs, our real chats, and a lot more fun and tips there.

My guest for this episode is Russ Bennett, Executive Leader, CEO, COO, CTO with deep operational expertise in FinTech, Payments and Technology solutions.
Russ was CTO at my time with Fraedom and was subject to my daily antics as we were pod buddies. The executive style that Russ personified was part of what I loved about my time in that business. He is a leader that truly understands the business and industry, a subject matter expert that holds himself as accountable as any in the team, always looks for solutions when a challenge arises, interacts freely with everyone in all teams, and delivers to the highest standard.

My guest for this episode is Robett Hollis, a gent that is all in for what he believes. Self described as “an independent thinker on a journey to promote, protect and positively impact kiwi culture”, he is known for speaking his truth and not shying away from real conversations
And that’s why I invited him on my show. If you’ve heard his podcast #robettLIVE, or seen an interview, you’ll know he oozes authenticity. Robett has seen a fair bit in his time, but uses his drivers of being a Proud #GirlDad, a kiwi with Ngati Porou ties, and his focus on creativity, commerce, and community to right his compass, and share that direction with others.
In this episode we cover

For this Rosey Review episode, “Why SME’s need a recruitment plan”, I’m running through the five-steps I created for SME businesses that was published by BusinessDesk NZ for their new Business Advice column.
Great not only for businesses, but some insights for candidates here too, around what pressures businesses can be considering while you’re going through the process. If you flip the script, you can learn how to be a valuable option.

My guest this episode is Sally Hennah, Director and Co-Founder of Business Sorter, recommended by Mark Donovan, my episode 29 guest.
Sally has a varied background as a nurse, working in insolvency, being a recruiter, and now running her own business growth consultancy for 15 over years, she’s helped clients to tackle their prioritisation, delegation, and risk management while introducing ‘bigger picture’ thinking. The benefit? This focus on planning leads to greater stability and profitability for businesses.
So what is Business Sorter? It’s a cloud-based tool that provides content for making a comprehensive, live plan so you can share and track, to obtain the results desired for businesses.
Battling through a cough and a bit of a cold, Sally still soldiered on for our episode, sharing her amazing energy and enthusiasm, where we covered:

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode, this is a quick intro as everything you’ll need to know about Fiona Ehn, GM of Cards and Payments from Kiwibank is in the introduction I make for this Her Career Leader Led Conversations Over Coffee call
“Conversations Over Coffee” began during the 2020 lockdown when we at Her Career recognised the importance of connecting the women in our FB Hub "Millennial INTRApreneurs thriving in their 9 - 5", to provide a safe space to share, and to introduce Leader Led calls, to provide a space for a senior INTRApreneurial woman to share her career journey, insights, experience and inspiration. This call makes leaders accessible, showing more of their whole human self and their career lessons.
Please forgive the audio here, although not of usual standards, the content quality is worth it.

My guest for this episode is Dr Angela Lim, serial health tech entrepreneur focused on innovative solutions, who has previously worked as a Paediatric doctor at Auckland Hospital and now runs Clearhead, NZ’s most innovative workplace wellbeing provider for EAP services and more.
Angela has a wide range of experiences and networks in both the NZ and international health care systems. This includes sitting on several local and national boards, especially in the area of healthcare information technology, conducting multiple health-related research projects spanning from a biomedical to population health level, and working for the Ministry of Health. This has allowed Angela to help shape and develop a more integrated and consumer-centric health care system, to take a whole-of-system approach when answering big and strategic questions.
Her key areas of interest are in population health, inequality, healthcare governance, leadership, cross-sectoral integration, innovation and entrepreneurship. She has been featured in various articles, reports and presentations including the NZ Herald, Stuff, TV and as a TEDx speaker.
I reached out to Angela to be a guest here because mental health is so important in the workplace or when looking for a role, and also because I was personally so inspired by her awesomeness.

This episode, to amplify the Digital Doers Academy from Manaaki, may have hit a few snags, but Wilfred Te Wao carried the mahi for his new Digital Doer whanau and bravely shared his personal journey, of challenges overcome, and hope ahead, with heart and inspiration.
What is a Digital Doer? Someone who has specifically trained to support business in Aotearoa to do business online and do it well. They help to overcome the key problem many small and medium businesses have of minimal resources or skills to make this happen. This is where Manaaki stepped in.
I’m excited to report that since this recording Wil is involved in 3 internships, the first is with Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, next is Lake District Adventures Waikato, and last but not least AkoMai Way. The links for those businesses can be found below.
Wil is also currently sourcing local clothing manufacturers for the Urban Māori Clothing Line he has started with his brother, and is working on a VR (Virtual Reality) Art gallery space so visitors can visit online art galleries in a digital, interactive environment and purchase artwork.
There is an additional close tie with this organisation. Rachel Adams, who leads this program, and is now the General Manager of Manaaki, featured in episode 13 when she was Head of Operations for Soda Inc. It’s whanau all round!
In this episode we dig into

Welcome to this Rosey Review episode. This time round I thought I would share a wonderful introduction call I had with an upcoming guest for episode 45, Sally Hennah, Co-Founder and Director of Business Sorter. Sally came to me by way of recommendation from Mark Donavan, my guest from RRC 29.
It’s important to me to share some pre podcast recording time with a guest, especially one I haven’t personally met before. From a practical perspective, this ensures the technology works and they are comfortable with the questions I have prepared. From a human perspective I want to make sure they are comfortable with me, so the sharing can be organic when we’re recording for the episode.
I’m lucky that quite often, like on this very first call with Sally, magic and connection happens immediately. We found we had so much in common while covering some deep and meaningfuls around recruitment and career, that had to include as a preview of what’s to come 5 episodes from now.
In this episode we touch on:

My guest this episode is David Perry, who reached out to me from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, after stumbling across this podcast, listening to my take on Recruitment and Career while driving into work.
David is international recruitment royalty, so I was humbled by his reach out, and ecstatic to learn so much from his entertaining and insightful sharing. The author of seven books and recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for Community Service, in 1988 he founded, and is Managing Partner of Perry-Martel International, billing more than 60,000 hours during career spanning over 35 years of executive search projects, which have totalled more than $390M in salary,
He teaches companies how to hire the right executives and keep them, and candidates how to make business decisions that will shape their careers. He is an author, sought after speaker, and has also featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Fortune Magazine to name just a few. Never one to sit still, David has also co-founded MyNewJobHunt.com, the first online Job Transition Platform written to help job hunters connect with employers in a whole new way.
I’m grateful both for the kind words he had to share from what he’s heard of my podcast, David’s calibre of expertise, generously wanting to be a part of my sharing, and for taking time in our initial introduction call to work out the technical bugs. He’s already labelled me a hoot, and as I said to him, Canadian’s and Kiwi’s are basically cousins, so we just get each other.
