Episode #5 - Pushing Through The Discomfort

🎙️ Episode 5 – Pushing Through The DiscomfortThis episode explores the discomfort phase of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—and why it’s not something to avoid, but something to embrace.🥋 Have you ever started something new—like a job, a home project, or a new skill—and felt totally overwhelmed? BJJ is one of the best teachers for how to face that feeling head-on. In this episode, I share:- What makes the early stages of BJJ so tough?- A personal story of feeling lost while visiting another gym.- Why it’s normal to struggle, doubt yourself, and feel out of place?- How tiny wins start to appear when you stay consistent?- Why persistence leads to real progress, both on the mats and in life?🔥 From getting crushed in rolls to finally surviving a round—this episode is about grit, humility, and learning to trust the journey. That pressure you feel? It’s shaping you.💬 “Pressure makes diamonds—and in BJJ, that pressure builds patience, resilience, and self-awareness.”If you’re in the grind right now, don’t quit. Keep showing up. The shift is coming.🌐 Visit www.rollandplaypodcast.com for more episodes, updates, and exclusive content📲 Follow us on socials: @RollAndPlayPodcast#RollAndPlayPodcast #BJJLife #TrustTheProcess #KeepRolling #BrazilianJiuJitsu #WhiteBeltMindset

Episode #4 - The Evolution of a Martial Artist: King Osimco’s Journey

🎙️ Episode #4 – The Evolution of a Martial Artist: King Osimco’s Journey
In this episode, I’m honored to welcome King Osimco to the Roll and Play Podcast. King is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and a highly respected coach in BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA.

Originally from the Philippines, King shares his powerful story of pursuing martial arts in a country where access to training and resources was limited. He opens up about the challenges he faced balancing his passion for combat sports with building a career, and how that path led him to Canada.

Though his dream of becoming a professional fighter didn’t unfold the way he once hoped, his commitment to martial arts never faded. Instead, he transformed that passion into a lifelong journey—becoming an exceptional practitioner, coach, and mentor to the next generation of fighters.

King’s story is one of grit, resilience, and deep love for the art of BJJ. He now passes on his knowledge through his work at Evolution HQ, where he helps shape future athletes with top-tier instruction and dedication.

Episode #3 - Neck Injuries in BJJ

🎙️ Episode #3 – Neck Injury in BJJ: What I Wish I Had Known

  • The anatomy of the neck and why it’s so vulnerable in BJJ

  • Practical tips for preventing cervical injuries

  • The importance of rest, smart tapping, and mobility

  • What I’ve learned about discipline, motivation… and getting back on the mats after a long break

💡 BJJ is a marathon, not a sprint.
Take care of your body so you can stay on the mats for years to come.

Episode #2 - With Jean-Simon Maurice

In this episode, I have the honor of welcoming Jean-Simon Maurice to the podcast. If you don't know him yet, he’s a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, an impressive achievement in itself. On top of that, he’s the co-owner of Bait Apparel, a Canadian company offering high-quality fitness, grappling, and MMA gear that I personally recommend.

We had a great conversation about his journey to earning black belts in two disciplines, what initially drew him to the sports, and the challenges he faced along the way. Jean-Maurice’s passion and dedication really come through, and like many of us, he’s a true hobbyist who loves the sport and strives to improve every day.

We also dive into his company, Bait Apparel, a proud Canadian brand that's actively supporting the BJJ community. Their products are top-notch, I highly encourage you to check them out at baitapparel.com and follow them on Instagram @freeunderhooks.

I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. If you like what you hear, please follow the podcast and share it with your friends. The bigger the audience grows, the more we can shine a light on hobbyists' experiences and highlight the amazing contributions of Canadian brands in the BJJ world.

Thank you for your support , you are what makes this sport so special. This podcast is my way of giving back and helping BJJ continue to grow here in Canada.
