Además, explica el trabajo de la ‘Defensa de la Defensa’, una institución dentro del Colegio de Abogados de México que protege a los abogados perseguidos o amenazados por las autoridades públicas.
También se refiere a la independencia judicial, destacando que es esencial para la democracia y denunciando, al mismo tiempo, los recientes ataques al poder judicial en México, incluidos los intentos del presidente López Obrador de influir en la Suprema Corte y modificar su estructura mediante reformas constitucionales.
Por otro lado, Olea advierte sobre las presiones y campañas de desprestigio contra los jueces, las cuales representan una amenaza para la justicia imparcial. El Sr. Arria cuenta con un curriculum vitae extensísimo; destacando entre sus grandes logros el haber ocupado la presidencia del Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas. A su vez, fue un destacado político y diplomático venezolano, llegando a ser Gobernador de Caracas y diputado nacional.
Aunque si algo destaca en su haber es haber sido el creador de la conocida fórmula Arria; un proceso de consultas informales que impulsó Arria en 1992 cuando presidía el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, y que permitió el acceso de personalidades y organizaciones como Nelson Mandela o la Cruz Roja Internacional a una organización antes considerada por algunos como hermética. El éxito y las capacidades demostradas por Arria fueron tomadas en cuenta por la organización y hasta 2007 desempeñó como secretario general adjunto de la ONU y consejero especial del secretario general Kofi Annan.
Por ello, esta charla se vuelve fundamental para entender el Estado de Derecho y su defensa acérrima por parte de personalidades que incluso nada tienen que ver con el ámbito jurídico.
