Season 1 Finale: The Behind-the-Scenes Story I Didn’t Expect to Tell

I can’t believe Season 1 is already over. When I launched this podcast less than a year ago, I didn’t realize how much it would change me—and how deeply I’d connect with this community of women walking through the thick of it.

In this solo season closer, I’m reflecting on the conversations that shaped me, the stories that cracked me open, and everything that’s happened behind the scenes—from caregiving a spouse with a chronic illness, to launching a perimenopause company, to a surprise pregnancy at 42.

I’m answering your questions about:

  • What this pregnancy has felt like (hint: it’s nothing like my others)

  • What it’s like being the only one in my friend group having a baby

  • The real toll chronic illness took on our marriage

  • And how I really feel about running Not Young

This one’s honest, messy, hopeful—and full of gratitude. I can’t wait to bring you more in Season 2 (coming this November). Until then, I’ll be soaking up newborn life, and getting all the past episodes uploaded to YouTube for anyone who prefers to watch!

The Trauma You Didn’t Choose—and the Healing You Can: Ginni Saraswati’s Story

This week, I’m joined by the incredible Ginni Saraswati—Founder & CEO of Ginni Media, award-winning journalist, and host of The Ginni Show. She’s built a thriving podcast production company, collaborated with some of the biggest voices in media, and helped countless others share their stories.

But this episode? It’s about her story.

In this deeply personal conversation, Ginni opens up about growing up with a mentally ill parent, the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, and the cultural stigmas that often silence survivors. She shares what it was like to be a parentified child, how she built resilience in the face of abandonment and instability, and why therapy and reparenting became her path to healing.

We talk about the nonlinear nature of grief after losing a parent, breaking generational cycles, finding love in adulthood, and building a life that actually feels safe. Ginni’s honesty is rare—and this conversation is a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t mean erasing the past. It means owning it.

If you’ve ever felt like you were carrying too much, stuck in patterns you can’t explain, or just needed someone to say, “me too”—this episode is for you.

Parenting in a Digital World: What Every Mom & Dad Needs to Hear with Chris McKenna

If you’re a parent, this episode is non-negotiable.

Chris McKenna—founder of Protect Young Eyes and one of the nation’s leading experts on internet safety for kids—joins me for an honest, deeply hopeful conversation every caregiver needs to hear.

We go straight into the hard stuff:
– What kids are really up against online
– Why government and tech laws are failing them
– How pornography, predators, and addiction are designed into our platforms
– What to do when you're overwhelmed and feel like giving up
– Real, simple strategies that actually work—without making you feel like a bad parent

As a mom of five, I’ve felt confused, behind, and honestly—scared. We avoided tech as long as we could, but now I’ve got three teenagers and the game has changed. This episode gave me clarity, calm, and tools that made everything feel doable. Chris doesn’t just bring facts—he brings compassion, and a blueprint that works.

What you’ll walk away with:
✔ A clearer understanding of what’s happening on your kids’ screens
✔ Practical steps that won’t overwhelm you
✔ Confidence you’re not alone—and you’re doing better than you think
✔ Hope. Real hope. For you, and for them.

This episode can truly save lives. Please listen. Please share. The time to act is now.

Not Young. Better.
Maria Kang: I Almost Died. Then I Finally Started Living.

What happens when the internet’s “No Excuse Mom” is diagnosed with stage four colon cancer at 42—while raising three boys and running a business? She fights. She transforms. And she finally lets go of everything she used to prove.

In this raw, riveting episode of Not Young. Better., I sit down with Maria Kang—viral fitness icon, nonprofit founder, cancer survivor, and truth-teller—to talk about what’s beneath the hustle.

You may know Maria from her infamous “What’s Your Excuse?” post that sparked global headlines and fierce backlash. But behind the abs and ambition was a woman unraveling—battling bulimia, chasing external validation, and eventually, facing a terrifying cancer diagnosis that would shake everything loose.

In this episode, Maria shares:

  • What stage four cancer taught her about the connection between trauma, illness, and unexpressed emotions

  • How she healed spiritually, emotionally, and physically—beyond chemo

  • Her unfiltered thoughts on motherhood, identity loss, rage, and finally feeling safe in her body

  • Why she’s no longer interested in being “liked” and what actually matters now

  • This is a wake-up call. Not just about health—but about presence, purpose, and the real work of healing. It’s Maria like you’ve never heard her before.

Living Fearless with Donna Winship — How to Move from Anxiety to Identity in Midlife

What if the unraveling you’re feeling isn’t a breakdown—but an invitation?

In this soul-shifting episode, I sit down with Donna Winship, teacher, author of Living Fearless, and co-founder of Identity Exchange, to talk about one of the most important (and overlooked) challenges facing women in midlife: What happens to our identity when the roles we've lived in—mother, partner, career woman—begin to change or disappear?

Donna left behind the American dream to raise her family in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, in places marked by war, isolation, and uncertainty. But it was in that wilderness where she discovered how to live from her true identity—not her roles, her success, or others’ opinions.

And in this conversation? She shares exactly how to do the same.

    🔥 We talk about:

    • Why so many women in midlife feel lost, anxious, and emotionally overwhelmed

    • The “false identities” we adopt—and how they sabotage our peace

    • The physiological toll of living from fear (and how to shift into truth + resilience)

    • What it actually sounds and feels like to hear the voice of love

    • How to ask three daily questions that will rewire your life

Whether you’re battling anxiety, control, people-pleasing, or just a deep sense of something's off—this episode is full of real, practical wisdom you can actually apply.

This one’s not just feel-good fluff. It’s transformation, grounded in neuroscience, spirituality, and lived experience.

    🧠✨ You’ll leave with:

    • A daily framework for reconnecting to who you really are

    • A better understanding of how fear hijacks the body and blocks creativity

    • The truth about why you don’t need to earn your worth—just remember it

🎧 Hit play. This one might just change how you see yourself.

Raising Kids with Big Feelings: Tantrums, Emotional Regulation, & ADHD Symptoms in Kids | Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart

If you’ve ever wondered why your kid melts down over the wrong color cup—or why your teen can’t remember to turn in their homework but can recite TikToks from two years ago—this episode is for you.

Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart is a nationally respected pediatric psychologist, parent coach, speaker, and author of the upcoming book Love the Teen You Have. She helps overwhelmed parents raise emotionally healthy kids without losing their minds in the process. She's been featured in The New York Times, HuffPost, Parents, USA Today, and Good Morning America—and she’s breaking it all down in a way that finally makes sense.

    In this conversation, we cover:

    • What it actually means to be your family’s “frontal lobe”—and how to stop doing that

    • Why so many kids are struggling with executive function (and what you can do starting today)

    • How ADHD symptoms show up differently in girls—and why so many go undiagnosed for years

    • When anxiety hides in the body (spoiler: it often looks like tummy aches, headaches, or even constipation)

This episode will make you feel seen, equipped, and hopeful. It’s not about parenting perfectly—it’s about understanding what’s really going on and how to support your child (and yourself) in the mess of it all.

Why You Keep Falling Back Into Old Patterns: The Stories We Inherit | Lisa Olivera

What would it be like to treat yourself as someone worth knowing?

In this powerful and heartfelt conversation, I’m joined by the brilliant Lisa Olivera — therapist, writer, author, adoptee, mother, and lifelong seeker of depth and truth. Lisa’s work centers on the lifelong process of healing, self-compassion, and rewriting the stories we’ve been handed.

We go deep — from abandonment and shame to self-worth and presence. We talk about what it means to unravel from old beliefs, navigate the fear loops so many of us feel in midlife, and how motherhood (and perimenopause) can act as an initiation into a new version of ourselves.

If you’ve ever felt disconnected from who you are, overwhelmed by your emotions, or stuck in a pattern you desperately want to change, this episode is your invitation back to yourself.

    We talk about:

    • Rewriting the stories we never consciously chose

    • Why fear is often wisdom in disguise

    • Inner child work and reparenting

Why Can’t I Lose Weight in Perimenopause? Insulin Resistance, GLP-1s & Intermittent Fasting Explained | Dr. Shahzadi Harper

In today’s episode, I sit down with Dr. Shahzadi Harper, a leading voice in women’s midlife health and founder of The Harper Clinic in London. Known as “The Perimenopause Doctor,” Dr. Harper is a medical doctor and hormonal health expert who blends conventional and lifestyle medicine to help women thrive through perimenopause and beyond.

This conversation is all about weight—specifically, the frustrating, stubborn weight gain so many women experience in perimenopause and the science behind why it happens. We cover the hottest topics in midlife wellness right now: intermittent fasting, insulin resistance, and GLP-1s like Ozempic and Mounjaro. Dr. Harper breaks down what actually works, what’s hype, and how to approach weight loss in this season of life with clarity and confidence.

We dive into how shifting hormones impact metabolism, how cortisol and stress affect blood sugar and fat storage, and why so many women feel like nothing is working—even when they’re doing everything “right.” You’ll also hear Dr. Harper’s take on microdosing GLP-1s—starting low and slow rather than jumping to a full dose—and how that can lead to better results with fewer side effects.

Whether you're feeling stuck, frustrated, or just trying to make sense of the chaos happening in your body—this one is for you.

Not Just Surviving: The Sacred Work of Motherhood with Elle Rowley

Elle Rowley built Solly Baby from her living room with a Craigslist serger and turned it into a beloved brand. But in this conversation, we go beyond the business. We talk about what happens after the baby-wearing phase ends—when your kids get older, your identity shifts, and motherhood asks you to let go even more.

Elle shares why she believes the goal isn’t just to survive motherhood—but to allow it to transform you. We talk about the tension between creativity and caregiving, the grief of changing seasons, and how to stay curious in the cocoon.

This one’s for anyone who’s ever wondered if they’re doing enough, and what might happen if they started trusting themselves more.
