As a consultant & researcher for the World Health organization, he has contributed 70 plus scientific articles in international & national journals on mental health. He has authored 300+ books and continues his lifelong dedication to accessible psychiatry and public awareness for mental health.
He established SAMADHANA Centre (free consultation centre for mental health) in 2007 & has treated 30,000 + people free of cost. In Prasanna Counseling Center, since 1980 over 1 lakh patients have received treatment free of cost from him. Dr. Chandrashekar is the recipient of numerous awards & honours, like the National Awards for popularizing Science by Government of India & University Grant Commission (U.G.C), Rajyotsava Award and more.

Embracing Emotions: A Poetic Reflection

The episode is a poetic reflection on embracing emotions. 

All emotions have a function. They help us express our likes and dislikes and are like our internal signals that motivate us to act and make decisions.  We frequently try to ease emotional distress by overlooking or downplaying our feelings. This doesn’t truly eliminate our emotions and can negatively impact our overall well-being. Recognizing and confronting our emotions is crucial for a healthy mental state.

This episode features a conversation with the incredible Chitra Paul where she talks about mental health struggles of autistic individuals and the caregivers at the backdrop of her own journey with her son, as a parent and as a caregiver.

Her journey from a parent to that of a parent advocate for inclusion and neurodiversity and an ally of the autistic community has been filled with mixed experiences. Chitra delves into the complexities of Autism, covering aspects such as diagnosis, support networks, and the challenges faced. She talks about the mental health issues that autistic individuals may encounter, along with the emotional impact on caregivers, parents and families as they navigate through all of this and ways for taking care of their own mental wellness.

Chitra is a parent advocate for participatory inclusion and neurodiversity. She is a Mother to a non-speaking autistic young adult who is also a self-advocate for his community of non-speakers. She is supporting several initiatives in the autism and special needs space. Chitra is also the co-founder and the director of the "Allinclusive Foundation” (Not for Profit), dedicated to creating such inclusive spaces. At present she is the India Lead, Institute of Neurodiversity (ION).

He reflects on the mental and physical health issues that emerged from his struggles and talks about the key moments that motivated him to pursue professional assistance on his road to recovery.
