It's November, and that's when we like to take a look at war films. This time around, we look at one of (if not the) greatest prisoner of war film ever, The Great Escape. This is a film that holds a special place in Sam's heart, and is the sort of film we could talk about for hours. Both as a film, and an historical event, this tale is truly one for the ages! Have a listen and hear what we thought!

So, have you ever thought about which film was THE one, that made you a fan? Sam and Derek sure have, and for Sam...this just might be the culprit! Part comedy, part horror, this greatest of the "Monster Rally" films set the standard for merging the two genres that we now know go together so well! Have a listen and let us know what you thing about this incredible film!

Obviously, words like "...the most important film in the history of horror cinema" get thrown around all willy-nilly these days...but I ask you, if this film doesn't qualify for such praise, which one possibly could?
We take an affectionate look at one of Sam's favourite films, and Derek's favourite vampire film, as we embrace spooky season with a watch of Nosferatu (1922). Have a listen and let us know what you think!
Also, it's Sam's birthday! Give her a shout out for her 18th!
Ok, so maybe we still have a bit more Davy Crockett to cover. And when that means we get to take a look at a John Wayne film, specifically an historical EPIC, directed by The Duke....well, how can we resist? John Wayne is one of Sam's favourites, so you know she's bringing her A-Level enthusiasm for this one! But is this film the masterpiece that John Wayne intended? Or is it a failed film from a woefully inexperienced director whose reach exceeded his grasp? Have a listen and hear what we thought!

When three hugely popular episodes of Walt Disney's Disneyland TV show were spliced together to create a film for cinematic release, one wonders if anyone thought this would be too much Davy Crockett. Well, as it turns out, in 1955, there was no such thing as Davy Crockett! A mythical character, brought perfectly to life by Fess Parker, Davy was the quintessential post-war, pre-Elvis hero! But how does this film hold up today? And more importantly, do we recommend a watch on this one? Have a listen and hear what we thought!

Happy September everyone! We welcome the school year back with a new episode, this time looking at something fun! Buck Privates was only the second film Abbott and Costello appeared in, but it was their first true "starring" vehicle for the duo. This movie brings the laughs as well as some incredible music numbers by The Andrews Sisters! This film is a comedy classic...but is its reputation earned? Or is it's reputation better than the on screen results? Have a listen and hear what we thought!
Derek and Sam start their second year with a bang!!! A recent family trip has led to a moment of inspiration, that has the gang covering the 1951 classic, The African Queen. Yeah, maybe we ride the Bogart-Huston collaboration pretty hard on this show, but man...could these two work together or what?
Have a listen, hear what we thought, and give us a shout!

It's our 1 year anniversary show! And to celebrate, we are taking a special look at one of Derek and Sam's most mutually beloved films....1949's The Third Man! The enthusiasm is palpable in this one! Have a listen, wish us a happy birthday, and let us know what you thought about our take on this fantastic masterpiece of a film!
We bring our all request month of July to a close with a look at a Marx Brothers film! The Brothers are Sam's favourites, so we picked once of their best to watch and share our thoughts with you on! A Night at the Opera was the first Marx Brother's film made for MGM and really was a turning point in many ways for their act. But were all the changes for the better? Well, have a listen and hear what we thought! Watch more movies, everyone!

If you are the sort of person that likes their sweet old ladies with a little bit of poison, their murders with a little bit of madcap, and their podcasts with a little bit of Sam and Derek, then this could be the episode for you. All-request July continues with a look at 1944's Arsenic and Old Lace, which is the sort of film that can cure what ails you! So, pour a big goblet of elderberry wine, grab a seat on the window bench, and have a listen to hear what we thought!
And check out our pals at www.petrockradio.ca. Tell 'em the gang at ILOM sent you!
All-request July continues, and one of our listeners suggested we give Burt Lancaster another chance with 1968's The Swimmer. Will this be a film that fits neatly into the Lancaster Paradox? Well, have a listen and hear what we thought!
It's July, and as promised we are back with a month of listener requests! This one is a big one, so let's start off with a bang with a true all-time classic, 1939's The Wizard of Oz!! What more needs be said? Have a listen and hear what we thought!
We wrap up our month-long look at film noir with The Blue Dahlia from 1946! Featuring the iconic noir pairing of Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake, this film was well-reviewed and well-received by audiences in it's day, buuuttttt....how does it hold up? You've probably heard of this film. You've probably heard its great. But is it? Raymond Chandler's first original screenplay was nominated for an Oscar, sure, yet room for some criticism of the narrative remains! Join Sam and Derek and they noir it up, one last time (for now!)....have a listen and hear what they thought of this film!
June Noir continues with our look at a film that features the Hollywood debut of screen legend Charlton Heston....Dark City. This film has a great supporting cast with Jack Webb, Harry Morgan, and one of our favourites here on the show, Don Defore. But it also has Lizabeth Scott, and your mileage may vary on her. A weird revenge tale, with a cast of unlikeable characters, is this a great noir film? Or is it miss that should have been a hit? Join Derek and special GUEST HOST Nikki (Sam is away this week) and have a listen to hear what we thought!

And as always, check out our pals at www.petrockradio.ca
So, what do you say about one of the greatest films of all time? Especially when it's also one of your favourites? And you're doing a month on film noir and this is the best one ever made? Well....we tried! We really did try! Have a listen to hear Derek and Sam try to offer any critique for the treasured masterpiece that is...The Maltese Falcon!
Happy June everyone! A new month means a new theme, and this time we are shifting out focus to one of the coolest of all genres, Film Noir! And, to start things off, why not take a look at film widely regarded as the very best the genre has to offer? Based on a novel inspired by a real life insurance scam murder, Double Indemnity presents like a textbook on how to make a noir...everything you want is here!! Check out this episode to hear what we thought, and be sure to tell us what YOU think!
We wrap up our month-long look at animated films with the first animated feature produced by the British Film Industry, Animal Farm. Funded in part by the CIA , the anti-totalitarian messages from the George Orwell book at brought vividly, almost gruesomely, to life by the husband-wife animation team of Halas-Batchelor. Intended as propaganda cloaked as entertainment, how does this film stack up as a piece of work on its own merits? We aren't going to try to unpack all of the themes of the source material here, just evaluate the film on it's own merits. Have a listen, and hear what we though about this dark, intense, violent, and artistic film.
