Prior to joining the University, he spent nine years as Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Development at the Arsenal Football Club Academy. Prior to that, he was Head of Strength and Conditioning at Connacht Rugby and Fitness Education Manager at the Irish Rugby Football Union. Des also worked as a consultant for World Rugby, Brentford FC Academy, and the National Cricket Academy in India.

Facial Fractures in Football
Dr Konrad Kozlowski is a recent graduate of the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. He is also an athlete himself; he’s played tennis competitively since 5 years old and has competed in the NCAA Championships. He has a keen interest in sports medicine and was the lead author of the paper we will be discussing today on facial fractures in professional footballers. Peter Rosston is a PhD candidate in medicinal chemistry at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. His interests include clinical medicine and its intersection with sport. He is an avid fan and follower of football and played it in high school. He is the second author of the paper we will be discussing.

Chris is the founder of the Diabetes Football Community, a project that provides guidance, support and advice about football for people with diabetes.  He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1999 and has a special interest in using his own experiences to help others with the condition.  Despite the complexities that come with a diabetes diagnosis, Chris became a Wales Futsal International in 2016. He is also an honorary fellow at the University of Worcester. Chris is hoping to use this podcast to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes in football, especially as Diabetes Awareness Month begins on November 1 and leads up to World Diabetes Day on November 14.

Mr Andy Williams is a knee surgeon who has worked with many professional athletes, including Premier League football players and Premiership rugby players. He completed his medical training at King’s College Hospital in London before completing orthopaedic training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, after which he undertook a fellowship in Australia where he gained some of his first experiences in sports-related surgery. His expertise now lies in sports-related knee injuries and knee ligament issues. He undertakes approximately 100 anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions every year. 90% of his work is with professional athletes.
