The Santa Clause
Episode 107 – The Santa Clause
Santa Claus and Christmas go hand in hand. Whatever traditions you may have, Santa is pretty ubiquitous during the holidays. But who is he? Some traditions hold that he is Saint Nicholas, the 4th Century Greek Bishop. Others believe him to be Father Christmas from British folklore or Sinterklaas from Dutch stories. Still others claim he is the embodiment of the Germanic god Wodan, who is associated with the Yule Festival.
Whatever his origins, he has always been associated with the modern Christmas season. But, what if Santa Claus weren’t a person so much as a title? Well, in 1994 a movie attempted to answer that question. It produced to 2 sequels (and a lot of existential questions), while cementing Tim Allen as the quintessential Santa in a lot of our minds. That movie was The Santa Clause.
From Wikipedia:
The Santa Clause is a 1994 American Christmas fantasy family comedy film written by Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick, and directed by John Pasquin. The first film in the Santa Clause film series, it stars Tim Allen as Scott Calvin, an ordinary man who accidentally causes Santa Claus to fall from his roof on Christmas Eve. When he and his young son, Charlie, finish St. Nick’s trip and deliveries, they go to the North Pole where Scott learns that he must become the new Santa and convince those he loves that he is indeed Father Christmas.
Highlights:
Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, David Krumholtz, Peter Boyle, Disney, ELFS, Comet, The Santa Clause 2, The Santa Clause 3, Martin Short, Psychiatrist, Sport.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Episode 106 – How The Grinch Stole Christmas
You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You’re as cuddly as a cactus, you’re as charming as an eel, Mr. Grinch. You’re a bad banana with a greasy black peel! The song is a classic. Even if you don’t know the all the lyrics, you know the melody. Dr. Seuss’ classic tale of selfishness, isolation, and redemption is a Christmas favorite for many around the world.
What does Christmas mean to you? Does it mean presents? Food? Family? To the Whos, it meant all that and more. But to the Grinch, well, the Grinch just wanted to be left alone for Christmas. But what kind of Christmas would that be? Not a great one, that’s for sure. Let’s see how Christmas was handled in 1966’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
From Wikipedia:
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (also known as Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!) is a 1966 Christmas animated television special directed and co-produced by Chuck Jones. It is based on the eponymous children’s book by Dr. Seuss, the story of the Grinch trying to take away Christmas from the townsfolk of Whoville below his mountain hideaway. Originally telecast in the United States on CBS on December 18, 1966, it went on to become a perennial holiday special. The special also features the voice of Boris Karloff as the Grinch and the narrator.
Highlights:
Dr. Seuss, Boris Karloff, Chuck Jones, June Foray, Thurl Ravenscroft, Ted Geisel, Cat in the Hat, MGM, Warner Bros, CBS, Grinch, Whoville

Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm
Episode 105 – Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm
If you were a child of the 90s, I guaranteed you played Mortal Kombat. The game was a cultural phenomenon. It was in every arcade (when there still were arcades, that is) and often attracted a crowd whenever anyone was playing. But it was just as infamous as it was famous. The gory nature of the game and it’s signature fatalities caused parents groups and community leaders to condemn the game and, in part, lead to the creation of the ESRB, which provides age ratings for video games.
It’s strange then that the creative team behind Mortal Kombat decided, just 4 years after the game’s initial release, to develop a cartoon series based on the game franchise. This cartoon showcased fairly toned down versions of some fan favorite characters, as well as some new characters that had just debuted in the third installment of the game, and was called Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm.
From Wikipedia:
Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm (known as Mortal Kombat: The Animated Series outside of the U.S.) is a cartoon series based on the popular Mortal Kombat video game series. Produced by Threshold Entertainment and Film Roman, it aired on the USA Network‘s Action Extreme Team animation block for one season of thirteen episodes from September to December 1996, back-to-back with those of the Street Fighter animated series. The show serves as a combination of an alternative sequel to the first Mortal Kombat film and the events of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Highlights:
Ed Boon, John Tobias, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Jax, Raiden, Nightwolf, Cyrax, Sektor, Scorpion, Mortal Kombat, Toasty, Noob Saibot, Midway Games, USA Network, Film Roman, Threshold Entertainment, Food Fight, Jonathan David Sloate, Clancy Brown, Brian Tochi, Cree Summer, Luke Perry, Dorian Harewood, Olivia d’Abo, Ron Perlman, Tod Thawley

The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t
The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t
Thanksgiving is a time to come together as a family to eat and be merry. It’s an American holiday that has its roots in the pilgrim days of the 1600s. In 1972, Hanna-Barbera decided to create a Thanksgiving special that told the story of the first Thanksgiving and the talking squirrel who played an important role in bringing together the pilgrims and the native Americans.
From IMDB:
A talking squirrel must save the holiday by rescuing a young Pilgrim boy and a young Native American boy that has gone missing in the woods on Thanksgiving day.

Rambo: The Force of Freedom
Episode 104 – Rambo: The Force of Freedom Show Description
There have been a lot of cartoon adaptations of books and movies throughout the years. Often times, those adaptations advance the stories and sometime introduce new characters to the show or book’s mythology. Think about how much was added to the Ghostbustera mythos by the Real Ghostbusters cartoon.
Well, sometimes a cartoon adaptation can vary so wildly from the original material that a completely new concept is created. That’s the case with the show we’re talking about today. Whereas the original book and movie portray the title character in very human and, often times, very troubling ways, the cartoon doesn’t so much showcase a character as it does a caricature. That show is Rambo: The Force of Freedom.
From Wikipedia:
Rambo: The Force of Freedom, often called simply Rambo, is an animated series based on the character of John Rambo from David Morrell‘s book First Blood and the subsequent films First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II. This series was adapted for television by story editor/head writer Michael Chain and the series even spawned a toy line. The cartoon ran for 65 episodes, and was produced by Ruby-Spears Enterprises. The series debuted on April 14, 1986, as a five-part miniseries, and was renewed in September as a daily cartoon. Rambo was canceled in December of the same year.
Highlights:
Rambo, David Morrell, Joe Ruby, Ken Spears, Haim Saban, Shuki Levy, Neil Ross, Alan Oppenheimer, James Avery, Falkor, Centurions, He-Man, Skeletor, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Robert Ito, Mona Marshall, South Park, Digimon, Michael Ansara, Batman, Star Trek, Peter Cullen, Optimus Prime, Ghostbusters, Lennie Weinrib, Ed Gilbert, Talespin, Frank Welker, Stanley Ralph Ross

Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos
Episode 103 – Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos
Chuck Norris is a renaissance man. He’s probably most well known as a martial artist and actor. He created his own form of martial arts called Chun Kuk Do and has earned black belts in Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo. He served in the Air Force. He’s also a film producer and writer.

He was a big deal in the 80s. Honestly, he was a big deal until fairly recently. The man was a meme, for crying out loud. Chuck Norris facts were pretty ubiquitous on the internet for a while, but his heyday was definitely the 80s. Ruby Spears decided to capitalize on this popularity by creating a short-lived, but ultimately memorable cartoon starring Norris called Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos.
From Wikipedia:
Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos is an American animated television series that originally aired in 1986 as a syndicated five episode mini-series. It was created by and starred Chuck Norris as himself, and produced by Ruby-Spears Enterprises.[1] Re-runs of the cartoon have occasionally aired on Boomerang and Adult Swim.
This fictionalized version of Chuck Norris is a United States government operative with a team of “radically diverse” warriors known as the Karate Kommandos. Together, they fight against the organization VULTURE (it was never revealed what VULTURE was short for) led by The Claw and his right-hand man Super Ninja.
Highlights:
Chuck Norris, Kathy Garver, Sam Fontana, Keone Young, Robert Ito, Mona Marshall, Bill Martin, Alan Oppenheimer, Joe Ruby, Ken Spears, Adult Swim, Boomerang, Taekwondo, Jiu Jitsu, Chun Kuk Do, Karate, Mr. T.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996)
Episode 102 – Sabrina the Teenage Witch: The Movie
Many of you remember Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina Spellman, and the many adventures she went on over numerous seasons with her 2 quirky aunts and her talking cat bent on world domination. But what you may not remember is that her portrayal of that character started out in a made for TV movie on Showtime. This movie also starred a very young Ryan Reynolds. Yes, that Ryan Reynolds. Yes, we never thought Deadpool could somehow cross streams with Archie Comics or Sabrina…but here we are!
From Wikipedia:
Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a 1996 American television film adaptation based on the comic book series of the same name from Archie Comics. It served as a pilot for the Sabrina the Teenage Witch television series and premiered on Showtime on April 7, 1996.
The only two actors who would appear in both the film and television series would be Melissa Joan Hart, whose character possessed a different surname from her comic book and television counterpart, and Michelle Beaudoin, whose character was renamed for the television series. Also of note is the fact that, unlike the comics, which were set in the fictional town of Greendale, and the eventual television series (located in an equally fictional town named Westbridge), the television film was said to take place in Riverdale. This was the name originally used in the comics for the home of Archie and his group of friends. Although set in the United States, just like the comics and said television series, the movie was shot entirely in British Columbia, Canada.
Highlights:
Melissa Joan Hart, Clarissa Explains It All, Melissa and Joey, God’s Not Dead 2, Sherry Miller, La Femme Nikita, E.N.G. Queer As Folk, Charlene Fernetz, Made in America, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, Diagnosis Murder, The Outer Limits, Michelle Beaudoin, Ginger Snaps 2, Tobias Mehler, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, Disturbing Behavior, Lalainia Lindbjerg, Inuyasha, Death Note, Dragon Ball Z, Bulma, Laura Harris, Dead Like Me, 24, Ryan Reynolds, Two Guys and a Girl, Van Wilder, Blade Trinity, Green Lantern, Deadpool, Waiting…, Just Friends, Tibor Takács, Ice Spiders, George Gladir, Dan DeCarlo

Bride of Boogedy
Episode 101 – Bride of Boogedy
The name Disney is synonymous with a lot of things — magic, princesses, animation, Mickey Mouse — but one thing people don’t usually associate with Disney is horror. Well, maybe not horror per se. Maybe scary is the better word. There aren’t too many scary Disney movies out there. But we found one.

If you asked 100 people about the movie we’re about to cover, I would wager 99 of them would say they’ve never heard of it.It is, in fact, the sequel to an equally obscure movie we covered just about a year ago. It’s a movie that has magic, and ghosts, and revenge, and a demon being dragged back to hell. That movie is The Bride of Boogedy.
From Wikipedia:
Bride of Boogedy is a 1987 family film, directed by Oz Scott[1] and written by Michael Janover, which originally aired as an episode of “The Disney Sunday Movie.”[2]
It tells the continuing story of the Davis family and their encounters with an evil 300-year-old ghost in the fictional New England town of Lucifer Falls. The film is a sequel to Mr. Boogedy,[2] which aired in 1986.
Highlights:
Michael Janover, Disney Sunday Movie, Walt Disney World of Color, Disney, Oz Scott, Carey Melcher, John Addison, Richard Masur, SAG, Mimi, Kennedy, Dharma & Greg, Erin Brockovich, Joshua Rudoy, David Faustino, Married…With Children, Gummi Bears, Tammy Lauren, Wishmaster, Leonard Frey, Fiddler on the Roof, Howard Witt, Death of a Salesman, Eugene Levy, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, American Pie, John Candy

TMNT 2 – The Secret of the Ooze
Episode 100 – TNMT 2: The Secret of the Ooze
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been a cultural phenomenon since their debut in 1984. What started as a simple drawing of a little turtle wearing a mask with nunchakus strapped to its arms has rown into a media empire complete with comics, multiple TV series, and movie. Fans of this podcast will no doubt recall our fondness for the franchise. Fifty episodes ago, we covered the original Ninja Turtles movies from 1990.
Despite the somewhat negative critical reception of that film, it went on to earn over $135 million at the box office. This meant a sequel. It also meant a bigger budget. But an increased budget doesn’t always translate to a better movie. Let’s see if that’s the case as we take a look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze.
From Wikipedia:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is a 1991 American martial arts superhero comedy film directed by Michael Pressman, based on the fictional superhero team the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is the sequel to the 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Secret of the Ooze was followed by a third film in 1993, and an unrelated fourth (TMNT) in 2007. The film is distributed in the United States by New Line Cinema, and internationally distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Legends of the Hidden Temple
Episode 99 – Legends of the Hidden Temple
What kid hasn’t imagined themselves as Indiana Jones? Crossing treacherous rivers in search of treasure. Delving into a long forgotten temple deep in the jungles of South America to find some sacred idol or priceless totem. Solving riddles and pitting your wits against ancient traps and cursed magics.
Well, Nickelodeon found the answer to all those questions back in 1993 when they created a game show that would turn teams of adventurers into modern day Doc Savages. Sending them to far away places like the pit of despair and the shrine of the silver monkey — all under the watchful eye of Olmec. That show was Legends of the Hidden Temple.
From Wikipedia:
Legends of the Hidden Temple is an American action-adventure[3] TV game show that broadcast from 1993 to 1995[1]on Nickelodeon. Created by David G. Stanley, Scott A. Stone, and Stephen Brown, the program centered on a temple that was “filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards”.[4] Kirk Fogg was the host[2] and served as the teams’ guide while Dee Bradley Baker announced and voiced a talking Olmec who “knows the secrets behind each of the treasures in his temple”.[4] Six teams of two children (one boy and one girl) competed to retrieve one of the historical artifacts in the temple by performing physical stunts and answering questions based on history, mythology, and geography.

Nickelodeon GUTS
Episode 98 – GUTS
Have you ever dreamed of dunking a basketball? Hitting a home run? Scoring the game winning goal in soccer match? Coming in first in the 100-yard dash? For some of you, I’m sure these weren’t simply dreams — they were realities. For others, like a lot of kids out there (myself included), these were the most improbable of fantasies.

But what if you could? What if you were able to perform athletic feats you’d never believed possible? That was the idea behind a Nickelodeon show that posed the question “what if there were an American Gladiators…but for kids?” That show was GUTS.
From Wikipedia:
Nickelodeon Guts (stylized as Nickelodeon GUTS) is an American television “action sports” competition series hosted by actor/writer Mike O’Malley and officiated by British actress Moira “Mo” Quirk. The series originally ran from 1992 to 1996 on Nickelodeon.
Each episode features three young athletes competing against each other in four “extreme” versions of athletic events culminating in a fifth and final round which set the three competitors on a race up an artificial “mountain” called the Aggro Crag, Mega Crag, or Super Aggro Crag. Nickelodeon GUTS reruns were shown on Nickelodeon from January 15, 1996 until January 31, 1999 before moving to Nickelodeon GAS from March 1, 1999 until the station ceased broadcasting on December 31, 2007 (April 23, 2009 on Dish Network). It has occasionally been seen in reruns on TeenNick since January 1, 2008; since 2011 those reruns would be found on the channel’s NickSplat block on an occasional basis.

Nick Arcade
Episode 97 – Nick Arcade
People have been obsessed with video games since Pong debuted back in 1972. Since that time, video games have crept into our everyday lives in various ways. Several movies have been produced both about video games, like Mario Brothers, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, and Warcraft, and featuring characters that play video games, like The Wizard and The Last Starfighter.

There have also been tons of TV shows featuring video game characters. But that’s just it. Most have been *about* video games, not about what goes on inside them. One notable exception is Reboot, but that’s a story for another episode. One show in particular asked players and viewers to actually step inside the game and play it for real. That show was Nick Arcade.
From Wikipedia:
Nick Arcade (also stylized Nickelodeon Arcade) is an American children’s game show created by James Bethea and Karim Miteff and hosted by Phil Moore, with Andrea Lively announcing, that aired on Nickelodeon in 1992 (in the first season, the shows were taped in December 1991 and aired in early 1992),[4] airing originally during weekend afternoons, with reruns airing until September 28, 1997. It was taped at Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando. In Nick Arcade, two teams of contestants played two initial trivia rounds, with the winner advancing to the “Video Zone” to play against the virtual “Video Game Wizard” of the day.

Double Dare
Episode 96 – Double Dare
By the mid 1980s, Nickelodeon was well on its way to becoming the powerhouse of children’s programming we know today. They had already found a winning formula with a schedule full of variety shows and pre-existing animated properties. But in 1986, producers on the channel famous for covering kids in green slime opted to pursue a new kind of show – a game show.

Building on America’s love for quiz shows and the success of gross out hit “You Can’t Do That On Television”, producers put together a show that combined a trivia contest, physical challenges that would leave contestants sticky, slimy, wet, or some combination of all three, and an obstacle course designed to push people to their limits. The end result was Double Dare.
From Wikipedia:
Double Dare is an American television game show on which two teams compete to win cash and prizes by answering trivia questions and completing messy stunts known as physical challenges. It originally ran from 1986 to 1993. A revival ran in 2000, and a new revival began on June 25, 2018.
Each team on the original Double Dare and Super Sloppy Double Dare consisted of two children, while teams on Family Double Dare and Double Dare 2000 included two adults and two children.[2] Originally, both teams wore red uniforms, but after Double Dare entered syndication in 1988, one team wore blue uniforms while the other wore red.[3][4]

Clarissa Explains It All
Episode 95 – Clarissa Explains It All
Sitcoms are a staple of the television industry. They’ve been extremely popular since at least the 50s. Shows like I Love Lucy, Gilligan’s Island, All In The Family, Taxi, MASH, Three’s Company, Seinfeld and Scrubs, to modern shows like Parks and Recreation, Big Bang Theory, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine have all experienced tons of success.
But While the early 90s had plenty of sitcoms for adults, the same couldn’t be said about shows geared towards kids. Nickelodeon broke into the genre with Hey Dude in 1989. After proving that sitcoms for children could actually work, they followed Hey Dude with a new show in 1991 about a teenage girl and how she deals with things like boys, growing up, and dealing with her annoying brother. That show was Clarissa Explains It All.
From Wikipedia:
Clarissa Explains It All is an American teen sitcom created by Mitchell Kriegman for Nickelodeon.[3][5] In the series, Clarissa Darling, played by Melissa Joan Hart,[6][7][8] is a teenager who addresses the audience directly to describe the things that are happening in her life, dealing with typical adolescent concerns such as school, boys, pimples, wearing her first training bra, and an annoying little brother.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete
Episode 94 – The Adventures of Pete and Pete
Imagine it’s 1989 and you’re watching Nickelodeon. You’ve just finished watching an episode of Double Dare and, instead of commercials, you’re treated to a quick scene of a young red headed boy who tells you a story. Sometimes, it’s about how his brother is still frozen from a game of freeze tag the day before. Other times, it’s about what he and his friends would do for a dollar, or about his terrible summer job mowing lawns along Route 34.

As quickly as it arrived, the odd little story is over and you’re back watching ads for toys or cartoons or whatever else Nickelodeon was trying to sell. What was that? Was that a show? Did you imagine it? Well, actually, what you witnessed was the genesis of a new show that would formally debut two years later as a handful of 24-minute specials, which then spawned another 3 seasons of brotherly goodness.

That show was The Adventures of Pete and Pete.
From Wikipedia:
The Adventures of Pete & Pete began on Nickelodeon in 1989, as minute-long shorts that aired as interstitials. Owing to the popularity of the shorts, five half-hour specials were made, followed by a regular half-hour series that ran for three seasons from 1993 to 1996. Reruns of the shorts and the shows now run on TeenNick as part of their block NickSplat on October 5, 2015. Jason Ankeny of AllMusic called the series “the greatest children’s show ever”,[1] while IGN called it “one of the most well-written kids shows ever”.[2] The first two seasons were released on DVD in 2005; the third was planned for 2006 but was indefinitely postponed.
Highlights:
Will McRobb, Chris Viscardi, Michael C. Maronna, Danny Tamberelli, Judy Grafe, Alison Fanelli, Hardy Rawls, Toby Huss, Michelle Trachtenberg, Rick Gomez, Nickelodeon, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Iggy Pop, Steve Buscemi, Adam West, Janeane Garofalo, LL Cool J, Debbie Harry,  Luscious Jackson, Nice, Show more...

Salute Your Shorts
Episode 93 – Salute Your Shorts
There was a time, not so long ago, when kids were encouraged to spend time outside. In fact, the phenomenon was so common that parents would often send their kids away to summer camps to spend their days swimming, playing baseball, going on hikes, doing arts and crafts, and whatever else the camp counselors could come up with. Personally, I went to several summer camps in my youth, from religious to sports oriented to more outdoor oriented varieties.

It was so popular, in fact, that Thomas Hill and Steve Slavkin wrote a book about it in 1986. A few years later, Slavkin sold the idea to Nickelodeon as  a new show aimed at a somewhat older audience than Nickelodeon was used to. That show was Salute Your Shorts.
From Wikipedia:
Salute Your Shorts is an American comedy television series that aired on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1992. It was based on the 1986 book Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp by Steve Slavkin and Thomas Hill.
The series is set at the fictional summer camp, Camp Anawanna. It focuses on teenage campers, their strict and bossy counselor, and the various capers and jocularities they engage in. It was primarily filmed at Franklin Canyon Park and the Griffith Park Boys Camp within Griffith Park in Los Angeles.
The title comes from a common prank campers play on each other: a group of children steal a boy’s boxer shorts and raise them up a flagpole. Hence, when people see them waving like a flag, other children would salute them as part of the prank.
Highlights:
Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp, Steve Slavkin, Thomas Hill, Nickelodeon, Griffith Park, Franklin Canyon Park, Jan Hammer, Kirk Baily, Star Trek: Voyager, Felicity, NYPD Blue, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Megan Berwick, Haiti, Michael Bower, Moonwalker, Tales from the Crypt, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Venus DeMilo, Family Matters, Sister Sister, Trevor Eyster, Heidi Lucas, Erik MacArthur, Pleasantville, Blake Sennett, Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis, Elected, Boy Meets World, Danny Cooksey, Diff’rent Strokes, Montana Max, Tiny Toon Adventures, Static Shock, Dave the Barbarian,

Hey Dude – Nickelodeon
Episode 92 – Hey Dude
Nickelodeon was a wild place in 1989. The channel that began its life as “Pinwheel” in 1977 was the first cable network for children. Originally programmed mostly with variety and game shows geared towards and staring children, not much had changed by the late 80s. In that time, the now rebranded Nickelodeon added some animated series from the UK and Japan and some live action comedy and drama series. Many of these “new” shows had already been on the air for years on other channels. But it didn’t really matter. Most of them were aimed at young children, and as anyone who’s raised a child will tell you, they’ll watch just about anything. But Nickelodeon was looking to expand its audience to include teens.
Enter 1989 and a new show about the teenage staff of a dude ranch in Arizona called “Hey Dude”…
From Wikipedia:
Hey Dude is an American Western comedy series that aired from July 14, 1989 to August 30, 1991, with a total of 65 half-hour episodes produced over five seasons. The show was broadcast on the Nickelodeon network, and aired reruns on Nickelodeon until early 1999, and on TeenNick since late 2011. Hey Dude was Nickelodeon’s second original live action television series, following the 1984 series Out of Control.
Highlights:
Nickelodeon, Tucson Arizona, Dee LaDuke, Double Dare, Graham Yost, Speed, Broken Arrow, The Pacific, The Americans, Tanque Verde Ranch, David Brisbin, ER, Forrest Gump, Seinfeld, Kelley Brown, Debra Kalman, David Lascher, Blossom, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Clueless, A Family for Joe, Christine Taylor, Marcia Brady, The Brady Bunch, Arrested Development, Zoolander, Dodgeball, Tropic Thunder, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Geoffrey Coy, Jonathan Gilkin, DFA Records, Josh Tiegel, Joe Torres, AVClub, NBC

Captain N – The Game Master
Episode 91 – Captain N: The Game Master
This week we decided to cover Captain N: The Game Master at Sean’s request. We mentioned before how Toyetic some shows were, but this easily has them beat. The protagonist is named “Captain Nintendo”, which can’t be any more of a product placement. This show was quite popular in it’s time, and it’s easy to see why: it hit every mark for any early 90’s kid. But could that just be our nostalgia brain, or was there real truth to that. To be fair, Sean picked this show to cover specifically because he thought it might be terrible and not hold up 27 years worth of Nostalgia goggles. Come grab a listen and if he was right…or not.
From Wikipedia:
Captain N: The Game Master is an American–Canadian animated television series that aired on television from 1989 to 1991 as part of the Saturday morning cartoon lineup on NBC. The show is produced by DIC Entertainment and incorporated elements from many of the most popular video games of the time from the Japanese company Nintendo. There was also a comic book version by Valiant Comics, despite only featuring characters from games produced by Nintendo. The show is also part of an hour-long block in Season 2 with The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and with Super Mario World in Season 3 in a half-hour block.
Highlights:
NBC, Nintendo of America, DIC Entertainment, The Real Ghostbusters, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Captain Planet, Sonic the Hedgehog, Nintendo Power, Randy Studdard, Haim Saban, Shuki Levy, Michael Tavera, Matt Hill, Street Sharks, “Ed, Edd n Eddy”, Venus Terzo, Da Vinci’s Inquest, Blackarachnia, Beast Wars, Castlevania, Andrew Kavadas, Reboot, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Alessandro Juliani, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, The 100, Death Note, Doug Parker, Terrorsaur, Game Boy, Frank Welker, Mother Brain, Levi Stubbs, The Four Tops, Audrey II, Little Shop of Horrors, Garry Chalk, Optimus Primal, Stargate SG-1, Eureka, Arrow, Supernatural, Ian James Corlett, Cheetor, Bots Master, Donkey Kong, Valiant Comics, Samus Aran

Freakazoid!
Episode 90 – Freakazoid!
After covering such an awful show subject last week we felt we needed a palate cleanser. Freakazoid! we are actually the requesters this week, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. Freakazoid was a sort of accident pet project of Steven Spielberg, Bruce Timm, and Tom Ruegger that was cut far shorter than it should have been. How did such a smart and ingenious show get cancelled after only 2 short seasons? Would this show be successful today?
From Wikipedia:
Freakazoid! is an American animated television series created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini and developed by Tom Ruegger for the Kids’ WB programming block of The WB. The series chronicles the adventures of the title character, Freakazoid, a manic, insane superhero who battles with an array of super villains. The show also features mini-episodes of adventures of other bizarre superheroes. The show was produced by Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation. The cartoon was the third animated series produced by the collaboration of Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animationduring the animation renaissance of the 1990s.
Highlights:
Warner Brothers, Kids’ WB, Bruce Timm, Tom Ruegger, Steven Spielberg, Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Blackstar, Snorks, Hanna-Barbera, Batman: The Animated Series, Paul Dini, Jem, DC Comics, Amblin Television, John P. McCann, Mitch Schauer, Richard Stone, Steve Bernstein, Julie Bernstein, Gordon Goodwin, Dark Lord Chuckles The Silly Piggy, David Kaufman, Jimmy Olsen, Superman: The Animated Series, Danny Phantom, Back to the Future, Tress MacNeille, Agnes Skinner, The Simpsons, Futurama, Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, Daisy Duck, Frank Welker, Edward Asner, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Star Wars: KOTR, Gargoyles, Craig Ferguson, The Drew Carey Show, Tracy Rowe, Jonathan Harris, Lost in Space, David Warner, Star Trek, Captain Picard, Jeff Bennett, Johnny Bravo, Earthworm Jim, Ricardo Montalbán,  Khan Noonien Singh, Fantasy Island, Bebe Neuwirth, Richard Moll, Mighty Max

Street Sharks
Episode 89 – Street Sharks
This week’s “user request” comes from Shawn…thank you, Shawn!? Street Sharks is arguably one of, if not THE most Toyetic animated series we’ve ever watched. Sean argues it is also one of the worst shows we’ve ever watched, while Chris is not so sure. Chris as been hoping to cover this show for over a year and really has been wanting to talk about a pretty big conspiracy around this show. Some of it involving Henry Winkler? I guess you’ll just have to listen and see what we’re talking about.
From Wikipedia:
Street Sharks is an American-Canadian animated series about the adventures of crime-fighting half-man/half-sharks. It was produced by DIC Entertainment and aired from 1994 to 1997, originally as a part of the Amazin’ Adventures lineup.[2]Later, in 1996, the Street Sharks teamed up with the Dino Vengers and the show became Dino Vengers Featuring Street Sharks. It was created to promote an existing Mattel toy line of the same name. The creators were David Siegel and Joe Galliani of Mr. Joe’s Really Big Productions.
Highlights:
Mattel, Robert Askin, Phil Harnage, Ron Myrick, Seth Kearsley, Ron Harris, Michael Benghiat, Louis Blaisch, Lee Tockar, Beast Wars, Dragon Ball, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Matt Hill, Captain N: The Game Master, Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, D. Childhood Remastered
We all have our favorite cartoons, TV shows, movies, and whatnot that we remember fondly from our youth. Sean and Chris certainly do. Listen to them reminisce about the good ole days of children's programming while they analyze movies and TV shows with a critical eye, all the while wondering if this show or that show could be remade for today's audiences.
