Double Dare
Episode 96 – Double Dare
By the mid 1980s, Nickelodeon was well on its way to becoming the powerhouse of children’s programming we know today. They had already found a winning formula with a schedule full of variety shows and pre-existing animated properties. But in 1986, producers on the channel famous for covering kids in green slime opted to pursue a new kind of show – a game show.

Building on America’s love for quiz shows and the success of gross out hit “You Can’t Do That On Television”, producers put together a show that combined a trivia contest, physical challenges that would leave contestants sticky, slimy, wet, or some combination of all three, and an obstacle course designed to push people to their limits. The end result was Double Dare.
From Wikipedia:
Double Dare is an American television game show on which two teams compete to win cash and prizes by answering trivia questions and completing messy stunts known as physical challenges. It originally ran from 1986 to 1993. A revival ran in 2000, and a new revival began on June 25, 2018.
Each team on the original Double Dare and Super Sloppy Double Dare consisted of two children, while teams on Family Double Dare and Double Dare 2000 included two adults and two children.[2] Originally, both teams wore red uniforms, but after Double Dare entered syndication in 1988, one team wore blue uniforms while the other wore red.[3][4]
