Families Surviving Cancer Sept 15 2025

Worldwide, more than 460,000 new cases of leukaemia are diagnosed each year. In the United States, that number is over 28,000. In Australia, in 2022 alone, over 5,200 people were diagnosed with leukaemia — roughly 60% male and 40% female. More than 2,100 of those Australians lost their lives.

Yet there is hope. In Australia, the five-year survival rate for leukaemia is about 64%. For children in countries like Australia and the U.S., survival can be as high as 85%. These numbers remind us that progress is being made — but the fight is far from over.

Because behind these statistics are real people facing unimaginable challenges. Patients endure aggressive treatments — chemotherapy, radiation, stem cell transplants — that drain their energy and leave them vulnerable to infections. Many spend weeks or months isolated in hospital rooms, far from friends and family.

And it’s not just physical. The emotional toll is immense:

  • the fear of relapse,
  • the anxiety about the future,
  • the struggle to hold onto identity when one’s appearance and energy are stripped away.

Families, too, carry the burden — parents juggling work and hospital visits, children missing school, loved ones living with constant uncertainty.

And of course, there is the financial strain. In the U.S., treatment costs over three years often run between $200,000 and $800,000. In fact, a recent study showed the estimated lifetime cost per patient to be over $140,000 across eight years of treatment. In Australia, the numbers are far lower — still, the average cost is approximately $34,000 in the first year after diagnosis, and around $9,000 annually in the years that follow if things go well. But if the disease is terminal, the final year of life can see costs balloon to $50,000 per person. When you combine that with lost income and the long road of survivorship with its ongoing health complications, you can see the true weight of this disease.

Leukaemia is not just a disease of the blood. It’s a test of resilience — for patients, for families, and for entire communities.

One person who has made it his mission to help people struggling with these issues, particularly men, joins us here today. David McGregor is the Founder and CEO of My Mindset Magic — and he joins us now.

Avoiding/Managing Burnout Aug 25 2025

A young professional—we’ll call her Emily—landed her dream job at a major firm.

She was smart, dedicated, and passionate.

But within just a few years, Emily went from bounding out of bed with excitement to dreading every Monday morning.

The constant pressure, endless hours, and lack of recognition wore her down.

She started calling in sick more often, her creativity dried up, and one day—she simply walked away.

Her company lost a rising star, and she lost the joy she once had for her career.

Emily’s story isn’t unique—it’s the new normal.

according to Safe Work Australia.

, nearly 46% of workers report feeling burnt out In Australia

Mental stress claims are rising faster than any other workplace injury, costing businesses billions of dollars every year.

In the United States, Gallup reports that only 32% of employees are engaged at work, while nearly 60% are emotionally detached or burned out.

The annual cost?

Over $550 billion in lost productivity.

But beyond the statistics are real people like Emily

—people whose health suffers,

whose families feel the strain

,

and whose potential is left untapped.

When workers are disengaged and unfulfilled,

companies bleed talent,

communities lose energy,

and individuals are robbed of purpose.

The good news?

Burnout is not inevitable.

Work shouldn’t just be where we clock in hours.

It should be where we make our mark, where we grow, and where we feel alive.

One person who has committed herself to helping others with this problem and create their best work and personal lives is Sarah Tse.

Sarah is an Organisational Psychologist, Transformational Thought Leader, and Holistic Leadership Speaker who has over a decade of experience in human centered design and design thinking and is founder of Shema Coaching as well as the creator of the SEA framework and she joins us on the phone today

Nothing makes us appreciate something more than losing it . That is definitely true for our health and physical abilities and even more true for those of us who believed we were about to lose out lives . These kind of experiences often spark profound shifts in our thinking-

less fear of death,

heightened compassion ,

a feeling of appreciation and gratitude for what we do have,

and perhaps most of all a renewed sense of purpose and a burning desire to fulfil that purpose.

We have in our studio today someone who has had experiences like that and who would like to share with us the insights he has gained from those experiences.

Teaching in 2025 July 28 2025

The teaching profession is a vital pillar of society and facing significant challenges in Australia and across the Western world. Teachers shape the minds of future generations, yet their salaries and the respect they deserve often fall short of reflecting their profound impact on our communities.

Furthermore, society frequently fails to provide the essential resources—modern tools, adequate training, and sufficient support staff—needed to fulfill their critical mission.

Compounding these issues, our education systems are plagued by systemic shortcomings: outdated curricula that struggle to prepare students for a rapidly evolving world, inadequate support for diverse learning needs, and a lack of investment in teacher development and well-being.

These factors make it increasingly difficult to recruit new educators and retain the dedicated professionals already in our classrooms.

Why are we struggling to sustain this essential workforce, and how can we address these systemic failures to empower our teachers?

How can we adapt from a system that was originally designed in the Industrial Age to create factory workers and later to some small extent office workers that never really transitioned to the information age as we are now transitioning into the experience age and the age of intelligence that many of us are having trouble even grasping much less keeping up with.

Our guest today is someone who is committed to exploring these critical questions and coming up with actionable steps to strengthen the profession and practices that can help shape our world.

Burned out Career Moms July 14 2025

Today, we’re diving into a challenge that’s quietly affecting millions of households: the hidden burnout of ambitious mothers trying to do it all. Across the country, women are launching businesses, raising families, managing households—and doing it with little sleep, limited support, and a constant tug-of-war between ambition and obligation.

The truth is, while society praises the “supermum,” the pressure to keep every plate spinning often leads to exhaustion, guilt, and dreams left on the back burner.

Our guest today, Leanne Bawden, is on a mission to change that. After two decades in corporate leadership and raising four boys as a FIFO wife, Leanne built her own six-figure business—not by working harder, but by working smarter. Through her coaching business, Wildly Grounded Co, she helps mums reclaim their time, energy, and confidence—so they can build thriving businesses without burning out or burning down their lives.

If you’ve ever felt torn between the life you want and the responsibilities you carry… or if you’re a business owner—or even a leader—trying to create more balance and wellbeing for yourself or your team, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss

Laughter REALLY IS the best medicine June 30 2025

In a world where stress, burnout, and mental fatigue are on the rise, the simple yet powerful practices of laughter, breathwork, and meditation offer a vital antidote—for both individuals and organisations.

These tools aren’t just feel-good trends; they are scientifically supported methods that enhance mental clarity, emotional resilience, and overall well-being.

Laughter stimulates the release of endorphins, lowers cortisol levels, and fosters social connection—creating an immediate sense of joy and ease.

Breathwork regulates the nervous system, reduces anxiety, and improves focus, allowing people to respond to challenges with calm and clarity.

Meditation deepens these benefits by training the mind to be present, reducing emotional reactivity, and improving decision-making.

For organisations, these practices lead to tangible outcomes: improved team cohesion, higher employee engagement, reduced absenteeism, and a more positive workplace culture. By integrating laughter, breathing, and mindfulness into daily routines, individuals become more resilient, and workplaces become healthier, happier, and more productive environments

Our guest today is someone who has committed herself to helping others who struggle with physical, emotional, and mental trauma discover the healing power of laughter and also benefit from the peace of mind that can be achieved through breathing techniques and meditation

Live Well not Just Long June 2 2026

Right now, the average life expectancy in Australia is about 84 years for women and 80 for men — one of the highest in the world. Sounds good, right?

But here’s the catch: the average number of healthy years — free from major disease or disability — is significantly lower.

In many cases, people are spending the last 10 to 15 years of their lives battling chronic illness, loneliness, or struggling with mental decline.

So, what does it really mean to live well?

Shouldn’t we be focused on quality of life not just length of life ?

Let’s look at three pillars that determine not just how long we live, but how well:

Mental Health: Depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline are rising — not just in the elderly, but in young adults as well. What can we do to strengthen resilience, connection, and purpose?

Physical Health: Sedentary lifestyles, poor nutrition, and stress are eroding our well-being — even as medicine extends our years. But are we just adding time, or are we adding life to those years?

Social Connection: Study after study shows that loneliness is as dangerous to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Relationships matter — not just for happiness, but for survival.

So today, let’s ask the bigger question: Are we living long, or are we living well? And what can we do — practically, personally, and collectively — to build lives filled with energy, connection, and purpose

Our guest today is someone who is focused on these questions And more ……….

Courage to Change may 26 2025

Plautus, the ancient Roman playwright of the 3rd-2nd century BCE Said

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than the fear.

More recently but not in our lifetime the great artist Vincent Van Gogh said

"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?"

About the same time and across the ocean

Mark Twain Said

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear."

And just for fun I’D like to tell what John Wayne said during my lifetime

"Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway." - John Wayne

It’s fair to say that Courage is one of the keys to a happy productive life .

There is little doubt that most of our regrets on our deathbed are not the things we did do——-

but the things we did not do

or even try out of fear or lack of confidence .

BUILDING KEY RELATIONSHIPS and THE BENEFITS OF THEM May 19 2025

Meaningful connections don’t just help us succeed — they help us survive and thrive. People with strong social ties live longer, cope better with stress, and are far less likely to suffer from anxiety and depression. In fact, loneliness has been shown to be as dangerous to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

And beyond the science, relationships give our lives purpose. They’re what lift us when we’re down, celebrate with us in our victories, and remind us that we’re not alone in our struggles.

So today, we’ll explore how we can build relationships that shape our lives in a positive way — from the boardroom to the family room — and how strengthening our connections can be one of the most powerful ways we can change the world… starting with our own

And the person who will be helping us start on that journey with today is Bindy Taylor She is a —mindset and relationship coach, retreat facilitator, and co-founder of Relating About Relationships and has established a program called You glow differently which we will talk about later and she will even tell you about a free give way today to help you build more trust connection, and clarity in your relationships

MANAGING YOURSELF AND YOUR BUSINESS EFFECTIVELY May 12 2025

Over 98% of all businesses in Australia are classified as small to medium enterprises

SME’s as they are widely known , employ nearly 7.5 million people in Australia and contribute close to 1/2 a trillion dollars or roughly one-third of Australia’s Gross domestic product

While that seems impressive …

In 66% of all Australian were employed by small and medium enterprises and they contributed 55% to the gross domestic product of Australia

Why the drop ?

The reasons for this are many.

As always, there lie a world of daily challenges in business — from cash flow constraints and staffing shortages to digital transformation and fierce competition.

And for those at the helm — the owners and leaders of these businesses — the pressures can be immense.

In fact, a recent study found that over 60% of small business owners report feeling overwhelmed, citing long hours, lack of work-life balance, and uncertainty about the future.

Leadership in this space often means wearing many hats — from HR and marketing to operations and finance — often with no or limited support.

.

Remember, these are small and medium size businesses they often have very limited or no training in areas like financial management, regulatory compliance , Human Resources , advertising , talent retention and leadership.

ONE FATHER MAKING A DIFFERENCE May 5 2025

One of the deepest, most universal fears any parent can face:

is the fear that something might be wrong with their child’s health.

From the moment a child is born—or even before—parents carry the hope and pray for their children to have a bright, healthy future.

But alongside that hope lingers a quiet worry: what if something isn’t right?

Whether it’s a missed milestone, an unusual movement, or a diagnosis no one was prepared for ….

Fear and uncertainty can be overwhelming.

This fear doesn’t just touch a parent’s mind—it grips their heart, their plans, and their sense of control It invades their dreams and is the fear that at one point or another keeps all parents awake at night .

Unfortunately, sometimes those rare fears are actually realised .

The most common physical disability in childhood is cerebral palsy and it affects approximately 34,000 Australians with about 500 new diagnoses each year .

Cerebral palsy arises from damage to the developing brain, often occurring before, during, or shortly after birth. This condition impacts muscle control and coordination, leading to a spectrum of challenges. Individuals may experience stiff or weak muscles, involuntary movements, and difficulties with balance and posture. In more severe cases, it can affect swallowing, breathing, and communication .

Beyond the physical symptoms, cerebral palsy presents daily hurdles for those affected and their families. Tasks that many take for granted—like dressing, eating, or speaking—can require significant effort or assistance. For caregivers and loved ones, the journey involves navigating complex healthcare systems, advocating for support services, and providing continuous care, all while managing emotional and financial stresses.

For families who hear words like disability or cerebral palsy from their doctor for the first time,

Fear can quickly turn into a flood of questions, doubts, and difficult decisions.

Today, we’ll talk about what that fear looks like, how families navigate it, and how hope and strength can emerge even in the face of life-changing challenges

Yet, amidst these challenges, there is hope. Advancements in early diagnosis and intervention are making a difference. Research indicates that early neurodevelopmental assessments can predict the severity of cerebral palsy, allowing for timely interventions such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. These early actions can help “rewire” the brain, leading to better functional outcomes for children with cerebral palsy .

Our guest today is

someone who is committed to helping out families and individuals with disabilities and making a real difference in their lives.

THE LINK BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH April 21 2025
  1. 7% of Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental health disorder at some point in their lives.

This translates to about 8.6 million people,

Also consider that , 21.4% ( or approx 4.2 Million) of Australians suffer from a mental health challenge in a given year

LETS HOLD ONTO THAT FOR A MINUTE .

MANY OF US EXCERCISE BECAUSE WE WANT TO LOOK GOOD

-SOMETIMES FOR OURSELVES

BUT OFTEN TIMES TO ATTRACT OTHERS .

OTHERS OF US EXCERCISE BECAUSE WE WANT TO LIVE LONGER OR PERHAPS FEEL BETTER PHYSICALLY

BUT MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE

exercising regularly because it makes them feel better mentally .

Its becoming more and more evident as time passes that

exercise can benefit your mental health in -powerful ways which include—— managing hormones and chemicals in one’s brain, such as serotonin which helps with mood and memory , in addition to stress hormones and endorphins which also are associated with feelings of happiness ,

Exercise can also help with concentration, Energy levels and alertness.

It can even help give you a positive outlook on life.

Regular exercise also has been proven to help you sleep better which in turn manages your mood

Physical activity can be an outlet for your frustrations and help you improve your sense of control, coping ability and self-esteem by accomplishing goals .

Exercise can distract you from negative thoughts and provide opportunities to try new experiences.

It offers an opportunity to socialise and get social support if you exercise with others.

This relationship has been found in children, adolescents, young adults, adults and older people, and in both males and females.

Studies have also found that Physical activity can be an alternative treatment for depression.

It has few side effects and does not have the stigma that some people perceive to be attached to taking antidepressants or attending psychotherapy and counselling

( THE BRITISH MEDICAL JOURNAL) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) from the USA recommend that clinicians consider exercise as a core treatment for depression

In fact Studies, including those published in the journal of the American Medical Association indicate that exercise can be as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy or medications in reducing depressive symptoms.

Still yet other studies have found that  engaging in as little as 35 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week, compared to zero minutes per week, was associated with a 41% lower risk of developing dementia over an average four-year follow-up period

Two people who have insight in this area and have made it their life’s work to help people in this space are joining us here today .

Mark Cox is a personal trainer and runs a business called wolf fitness

AUSTRALIAN REAL ESTATE TODAY March 31 2025

A new report has revealed the surprising number of millionaires currently residing in Australia - and there one a big thing the majority of them have in common.

Finder’s Wealth Building Report 2024 has found that one in eight Australians are millionaires, which is one of the highest figures globally and one that is expected to continue to rise .

A large percentage of these millionaires became such merely by the growth of their Resedential homes increase in value.

When the value of the principal place of residence is removed the number of millionaires in the Australia is cut in less than half from 12.5 % to five per cent of Australian adults.

The fact that such a significant number of Australians are considered “millionaires” purely because of property values is very positive .

On the flip side though some people-

especially young people -

And divorcees

are faced with the fact that between 1/4 -1/3 —-29.3% of the homes in Australia are valued at 1 million AUD

Some places are, of course worse, than others

in Sydney 69.6% of houses and apartments are worth 1 million or more

In Melbourne that number is 34.6%

In Adelaide that number is 36.6% of apartments and houses are valued at 1 million or more

According to Morningstar

Today, Australia has the most expensive houses in the world when measured against income. House prices have become unaffordable for many – particularly young families.

Regardless of that fact there is hope and opportunity still available

Also Remember that a recent study found that 76% of millionaires inherited nothing but debt from their parents .

The same study ALSO showed that 89% of millionaires made it themselves .

LIVE BETTER NOT JUST LONGER April 7 2025

We are all blessed to be alive now in 2025 and should be thrilled that life expectancy in Australia has increased from 59 years in 1925 to 83.18 years in 2025

But as everything in life you don’t get something for nothing .

Rising longevity and decreased birth rate is increasing demand for aged care in staffing and in funding— in a system that’s already strained and stretched almost to its breaking point .

Now, about 14% of Australians are older than age 65.

And that number is going up.

By 2043 that number will be 20.7%

So Over 1 in 5 .Or approx 7.25 million people - About the current population of Sydney, Adelaide , and Canberra metro areas combined will be over 65 in Australia

.

The demand for residential aged care in Australia is also projected to double over the next 20 years, with an average year-on-year increase of approximately 9,900 new residents, reaching almost 400,000 by 2043

That being said A recent poll has indicated that 68% of Australians prefer to

receive care in their home rather than live in an aged care facility .

Consider that

Elderly people  have usually lived in their home for many years and built relationships with neighbours and the surrounding community.

Even small daily interactions, like the conversation with a local postal worker or a familiar grocery cashier, provide a network of social support which help keep their morale high and continue to provide a sense of purpose—- which has been proven in multiple studies to aid in longevity and quality of life .

Moving to residential care requires building a new community.

This can be difficult and stressful.

An inpatient environment, no matter how well-designed, can never be as homelike as one’s private home.

As of 30 June 2023, 258,374 Australians accessed Home Care Packages

In fact the Aged Care Home care and Residential Services industry in Australia is $36.4bn in 2025.

Not surprisingly , navigating this bureaucracy and industry can be difficult and overwhelming .
