Another round? Yes please! This episode is on the Danish film directed by Thomas Vinterberg, "Another Round." What happens when alcohol hits? What happens when you aim to make it a part of your life in order to better your life? And what happens to those that can't make it out? We explore the themes of alcoholism, aging and how different people respond to different levels of drinking and how it affects our lives.
It's been a while, we know, but what other way then to get back and talk about "Se7en", Directed byDavid Fincher Written by Andrew Kevin Walker. See what we got to say about this Movie while cracking a cold one with the boys.
A love letter to the arts, but a big, middle finger to the industry. Damien Chazelle split audiences with his divisive epic period film about Hollywood, from its infancy with silent films to its first "talkies." There were some who did not like it at all and there were some who absolutely adored his vision of how much the industry has changed. The 3 hour run time might scare some off, but this movie feels like what it's like to be on a roller coaster while on drugs: the highs are high and boy, are the lows low. The variety of perspectives we see from the ensemble cast and the parallels between characters highlights Chazelles brilliant story telling and how his characters are dynamic and complex and not to mention the amazing jazz score. Although it may not have had the box office success, Damien Chazelle continues to impress with his directing talent and this will be another of his movie that will age like wine. This was a fun overall watch and we had fun debating our thoughts about it; kudos to Bryan for picking such an interesting film that even made us divisive. And shoutout to Jarritos for coming out with Cantaritos, a hard soda based off their delicious sodas that fueled this episode. IG: @buzzedcandidandcritical
As we kick off our season 2 finale, we sat down and reflected on our past episodes and our previous format and we made a creative choice in this episode that will be continuing going forward and we are happy with the results. This might be one of our best episodes to date and we hope you feel the same. This last episode of the season was Bryan's choice. "Sicario" deals with a lot of morality issues and there is a lot of character development that we took a deep dive into because we wanted to see what was motivating each of the character's. By the end of the episode, some of us were at odds about the ending scene, but some of us left with a different point of view that we had not initially thought of and that's the beauty of this movie and all movies: we can all take away something different away from it. We paired this episode with Belching Beaver's Deftones Phantom Bride IPA, which was delightful, citrusy, and light enough to enjoy more than a couple and not feel too buzzed. Stay tuned and up to date with us on IG: @buzzedcandidandcritical and we will be back with season 3 in a couple weeks; cheers!
"Shitballs!" A special episode this week: we decided to watch and talk about the next movie in the "Knives Out" series since it was readily available to us. Employing the same tactics as the first one, "Glass Onion" paints a perfect picture of what was going on during the early pandemic (which made so much sense considering they filmed it during peak pandemic) and it presents a brutally honest of what it's like to be a billionaire with all the money in the world with absolutely no sense of what consequences their actions will cause. What's enjoyable about these movies besides the ensemble cast, Benoit's detective skills paired with his Southern accent, and how basically every single clue is presented to make us try to figure out what's really going on is that things aren't always what they seem: Director Rian Johnson knows how to craft a complicated murder mystery and simplify it at the end, making us slap our forehead and exclaim "wow." This week, we tried Michelob Ultra Seltzers, clocking it at a light 4% ABV; these were tasty and refreshing and very easy drinking.
