Former CPD undercover prostitute.
Humor-in-the-business-world researcher.
Depaul Prof teaching creativity, innovation & design thinking.
Yes, such a person exists in this world. Say wassup to Dr. Karen Bartuch.
Me & funny-a$$ comedian Vik Pandya had a blast getting to know Dr. B.
I think she nailed it on this episode: the most important biz skill for the next few years is NOT gonna be team skills or organizational skills. Nah. Dr. B thinks it's going to be creativity & innovation skills. COVID-19 is shakin up the global economy for real. Those that are most creative in adapting and innovating will take the cake.
But we couldn't ignore the fact that years before, Dr. B rose through the ranks in the Chicago Police Department, ultimately working directly with the CPD superintendent as policy advisor. On her journey upwards, she saw A TON. Don't judge me for lingering on her stories as an undercover prostitute. Just tune in and listen to her amazing stories yourself!
Now she's killin it as a professor, strategist, marketer, podcaster and all-out leader. Follow her/learn more at @iamdavidajane and https://www.iamdavidajane.com/episodes-1.
Make sure to also check out my main dude Vik Pandya (@vpcomedy and http://www.teamuscomedy.com/vik). This brother is killin it in the stand up scene - last year, his comedy album 'Friends With 401(k) Benefits' debuted #1 on iTunes & Top 10 on the Billboard Charts!

What happens when a right-wing Jewish Trump supporter and a left-leaning Palestinian Bernie fan get into the same restaurant back stockroom? Fireworks, baby! Episode 93 of Business News and Other Sh!t. What's up, y'all? We had Howard Weitzman. This dude is a big-time real estate dude here in Chicago. Yeah, we talked a lot of good businesses.
By the end of it, this dude walked us through one of his largest and wildest deals. He did a 320-unit building. It was an old freezer building that he converted into lofts, and he had to go through a whole lot of hoops, especially with the government, to make that happen.
But before we got to that, this dude was talking some crazy-ass shit. What was he saying? I brought up the whole Tree of Life Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. I was like, "Yo, how can you support Trump, dude?" And he was blaming the synagogue and saying they should have had security. I'm like, "Dude, you're crazy, man." We didn't disagree on everything though. A lot of Palestine/Israel stuff we disagree on, of course, but we did agree on work ethic and how his dad raised him and how my dad raised me. We did agree on how politics is full of a bunch of bullsh!t. And we did agree on real estate and how to make smart moves.
Ready for some fireworks? You're gonna enjoy this one. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the episode y'all. Peace!

Wazzup, wazzup listeners, episode 91, BNOS. We march towards 100 episodes. We had a top real-estate salesman, name’s James Sheehan (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jsheehanrealestate/). Good old Irish boy. This dude’s done 80 million dollars since he started in real estate, which was only seven years ago. So the dude is hittin’ it. Former grain trader, economics pro, so kind of a different real estate sales guy, he knows his sh!t.
This dude’s advice to us is: "if you’re gonna buy, wait until right before the election." Because he thinks real estate markets are gonna take a little bit of a dip around that time. Everyone gettin’ afraid and skittish ahead of time. So he goes into detail around that, listen in to make sure you understand why he’s making that prediction.
This dude’s also a Certified Negotiation Expert, C-N-E. That’s right, if you get into a hostage situation, call James Sheehan, your Irish negotiation expert. This dude is a pro, he gave us a whole bunch of tips when it comes to negotiating whether it's in a real estate deal, or any other kind of deal. So sit back, relax, enjoy the episode, and learn about real estate with James.
Peace!

We had Diarmuid Horan (https://www.lifelonglifestyles.com/) on today. This dude is an Irish gangster. Not literally, but he is a professional hurler. It’s a sport in Ireland that’s a cross between field hockey and lacrosse. He’s a diet and lifestyle professional. So the guy knows his stuff. One of the calmest -- no, THE calmest guy we’ve ever had on. And also has amazing eye contact. And he still owns a coffee roaster called Sputnik Coffee. So he goes into the entrepreneurial story of how they literally went to Ohio, bought a coffee roaster, brought it over, and so on. But then he was starting to burn out, so he went back to the diet and lifestyle world, and his whole thing now is mentoring other people and coaching them on not burning out. Being able to manage stress and take on more and more pressure in life and thrive at it. Imagine the most difficult time in your life, but you’re still smiling. This dude’s a coach at that. It’s amazing.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy Diarmuid. Peace!

What’s up y’all? Episode number eighty-nine. We doin’ it baby: Business News, Other Shit. Thank you all for listening in. We had a couple guys on today besides our bad boy John Dolder, we had Quinton James, and Dan Baker, comedian and fellow improv teammate.
Quinton James (https://www.truementors.com/), this dude grew up in the wild, wild hundreds. And if you’re not from Chicago, let me tell you about the wild, wild hundreds. They are pretty wild. So this dude is kind of a wonderful story of coming up from a difficult background from where he grew up and now runs his own organization called True Mentors. This dude believes and explains how your network is your net worth. For real. He sets up mentors with mentees. Quinton James dropped some serious bombs on us. He distinguished between stress vs. pressure. It was super interesting and how stress is really driven by a negative mindset, while pressure’s actually a good thing, and you can use a positive mindset to really benefit from pressure. That was cool, make sure you tune in and listen to that.
And don’t forget, we tape from the stockroom of Cedars (http://www.eatcedars.com/), the restaurant I own. Come check us out y’all! Valentine’s Day’s coming up. Thursday, Friday we’re gonna have our new menu. You gotta check us out on Valentine’s Day. And then the all star weekend for hoops, we have the all star game in Chicago coming up next week. We’re gonna do a Kobe day here on Saturday and Sunday, Kobe Bryant and Gigi Bryant, may God rest their souls. Free dessert for your table. Roll through, wear your Kobe jersey or Kobe gear, and you get free dessert for your table.
Sit back, relax, tune in and enjoy the episode. Peace!

We had Danielle Pierce on this episode. She is a real estate wealth strategist. Check her out: http://daniellepierce.com/. We taped again from my new restaurant, Cedar's. Come on by -- we’ve got some cool stuff, like Middle Eastern fried chicken and Middle Eastern fish and chips. You're going to love it. Say "What's up!" if you see me as well! Danielle Pierce -- she's cool. You don't need to be a real estate broker to make money in real estate. There are other ways, and she broke down for us how to make money by becoming a repair and maintenance person for foreclosed properties. She basically works from her computer, anywhere she wants to, by hiring contractors to go fix houses for banks that have foreclosed on houses. She also talked about making money through tax liens, and how she basically will buy properties on the cheap for $1,000 or $2,000, and then later on, sell them for double or triple, if not even more. The hardest part about all of this? Dealing with contractors. She's figured out some tricks and secrets after doing this for almost 10 years. She was super cool and super smart. She's based out of Texas now, but she is a coach for wealth strategy when it comes to real estate. She's going to walk you step-by-step through an eight-week course she runs so you can make money by managing contractors for repair maintenance on foreclosed houses. And she can coach you on being a tax lien investor, where you can simply use $1,000-$3,000 to buy a property that has been delinquent on its taxes and the government now owns. And man, she has some crazy stories about contractors and tax liens! You're going to learn a ton about how she does this and how you can do it too! So sit back, relax, and enjoy the episode. What’s up Episode 87, Business News and Other Sh!t, how y’all doing? We taped from Cedar’s again, the restaurant that I own. We have launched a new menu by the way with a kickass chef, delicious food, awesome reviews, please roll through, if you see me please grab me, say what’s up. Today we have a really cool dude named Billy McMillan. This dude worked at NASA for 10 long years. We also had Chris Brodhead, our producer on the podcast who we haven’t had on in a while, him and Billy were friends when they worked at NASA together. Man what an interesting dude. During his time at NASA Billy helped create innovative leadership development programs for the agency and after several years of that he moved over to Accenture where he continues to create leadership programs and coach. We got into some really cool detailed questions about NASA as well: Are they a waste, are they dumb, are they cool, what kind of curiosity NASA satisfies and is NASA worth it? Sit back, relax and enjoy the episode. Peace.
Billy McMillan (https://twitter.com/_BillyMcMillan) is an ICF certified coach who developed his coaching skills during his 10 years working at NASA and now continues to impact the way the world works and lives at Accenture. This is part 2 of our interview with Cory Shepherd, the president of Sound Financial Group (www.sfgway.com), and he runs a podcast called “Your business, Your wealth” (www.yourbusinessyourwealth.com).
What's up y'all? Umbrella insurance helping you make money. Disability Insurance helping you make money cultivating contentment. What is this wacky dude Cory talking about? Um, it was different. It was a different financial advisory conversation that I'm used to having. I'm used to talking about stocks, bonds, where to invest, how much to invest what age you should start investing?
No, the dude is like, yo, none of that stuff matters as much as you being happy and using money to build your contentment. And me and John admitted, we struggled with contentment.
So Cory broke it down for us and explained how his approach at Sound Financial Group is different than your average broker at Morgan Stanley. How they actually charge a design fee to help you design your financial life as opposed to taking 1% of commissions each year.
He is a very cool and smart guy. He really gets in depth on financial advising in this episode.
Anyway sit back, relax. Enjoy peace, y'all.

What's up BNOS listeners! This is episode 85 the first one of 2020! That's right we just finished a decade with a stock market bull market for 10 straight years. Wow, hope y'all made some cash.
Our guest today was Cory Shepherd, the president of Sound Financial Group (www.sfgway.com), and he runs a podcast called “Your business, Your wealth” (www.yourbusinessyourwealth.com).
He is a very cool and smart guy. He really gets in depth on financial advising and you can catch our deeper conversation in Episode 86. Which comes out later in the week.
But what we talked about besides that longest bull market was Carlos Golson. This is the dude that ran Nissan Mitsubishi. One of the biggest car companies in the world and then he gets arrested in Japan. Then this week the dude fled Japan somehow, some way without passports, the dude escaped the country. It's like some crazy TV shit.
Then we get into this attack that Donald Trump approved. Basically, they killed a top General. I had previously talked about oil prices going up and they have been going up the last three months since I mentioned that. But I think oil prices are done.
Anyway sit back, relax. Enjoy peace, y'all.

Our guest was Brian Reed the comedian. I love this dude. On the show he agreed to do this experiment where he goes up to as many women as he has to until one of them agrees to go out on a date with him. And he promised to come back in the new year and report to us what his results were.
We also talked about Facebook. Are they a monopoly? What's a monopoly? How do you think about a monopoly? You know, these guys run the majority of social media in the world so yes they are a monopoly.
We talked about China, we talked about Brexit, the world becoming less and less economically integrated. That's nothing to sneeze at y'all. It has big consequences. Short term it may be positive for the United States stock market. Long term, very negative for all stock markets, especially the United States. We need other countries in order for us to grow. That's the bottom line y'all.

This week's guest is Mansoor Kazi. The dude's a gangster when it comes to education & corporate pedigree. But here's the really cool thing: this brother also grew up in a small business *dry cleaner* in none other than Augusta, Georgia. Dats right, dry cleaning for rich golfers, you gotta hear his stories about Sergio & Tiger (ehem, he also shares some great stories about consulting lol).
As a Partner at Bain & Company, Mansoor's focus is on retail, customer strategy, and implementing growth/turnaround strategies. And get this, Mansoor also advises private equity guys on potential acquisitions for various funds across multiple industries, including Consumer Products, Healthcare, Industrials, and Chemicals.
And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, we then got into "A-B-C" -- always be closing, baby. Best example we had? One of my boys who kept asking women on the street for a date until one of them said Yes. Guess how many he had to ask? CLICK TO LISTEN.....

J. J. Wenrich is a Certified Financial Planner and 20-year veteran of the investment world. He developed his fascination in the stock market as a child, watching business reports on PBS, one of the few stations available in his small-town Kansas home. During the freezing winters and blazing summers, he was inside learning about what he calls “the amazing world of stocks.” Despite his small-town upbringing, J.J. had progressive teachers along the way who included personal finance and stock-picking games in their curriculum.
Later, his education continued at The University of Kansas, reigniting his love of the market. So much so that, while his buddies headed off to Mexico for spring break, he stayed on campus and spent all-nighters watching CNBC, geeking-out on stock charts and spreadsheets as he followed equity markets around the world.
Since then, J.J. has built a 20-year career in financial planning and investments, working with some of the best investment professionals and financial advisors in the U.S.
Along the way, he met his wife Jodie—also a financial professional—and together they built a family “portfolio” including Jodie’s son and another three children born within 30 months. It’s that family unit that is the basis of J.J.’s lessons on educating kids about healthy financial habits and Teaching Kids to Buy Stocks.

J.J. also runs a Registered Investment Advisory Practice in California (https://www.jjwenrich.com/wenrichconsulting)

No one but Kison Patel would think, hey maybe I should buy this methadone clinic for $1.5 million. And in three months, Toronto sells it for 3.5 million. This dude almost had that deal in the bag, and then the financial crisis hit. And that's when he really got going. He moved on his way to M&A software, domain name marketing, etc. But he goes into talking about product validation and product distribution. And what he's been learning is, don't just create your harebrained idea and think everyone's going to love it. No work backwards, reverse engineering, get the people on the phone, talk to them, find out what really bugs them, what could really solve their problem? We go into detail around all of that, above and beyond all the M&A stuff. So sit back, relax and enjoy learning a whole lot about M&A.

What up BNOS peeps,
When all else fails, find heaven under your mother's feet. Our guest Kison Patel hit rock bottom and did just that with his mom - which then propelled him into the world of Subway sandwich franchises, then business brokerage, and finally becoming and M&A pro.
Kison slapped us with a bad ass line: "Disrupt yourself or die." Though I personally practice that, I'm not gonna lie: sometimes I rather DIE! This dude Kison disrupts himself errryday - he now runs his own software company that makes M&A deals way more efficient (Founder and CEO of DealRoom & host of the podcast "M&A Science")
Kison & I exchanged brown kids war stories - he grew up running motels, I grew up fighting white power crazies at my uncle's gas station. Welcome to America! In the end, we both came out waaay stronger for it. Bottom line: owner's mentality is priceless.
We finally broke down M&A - mergers & acquisitions - wtf are they REALLY? Why's xerox buying HP? Why'd Facebook buy IG? Amazon & Zappos?? Kison's looked at all these with intense detail. Tune in to laugh & learn y'all!
Peace.
- Amer
