For years, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t hold on to anything,
and I’m not just talking about my belongings.
Jobs slipped through my fingers.
Relationships faded.
Money disappeared faster than I could make it.

So I ran, around the world, trying to be everything and everyone:
the party girl, the housewife, the rebel, the addict, the yogi,
in the hope that something, anything, would finally fix me.

But none of it worked.
Because I wasn’t broken.
I just didn’t understand my brain.

Welcome to ADHD Untangled, the podcast where we stop trying to fit into boxes that were never made for us.
This is your space to understand your ADHD, untangle the chaos, and start living in a way that finally feels like you.

I’m Rosie Turner, ADHD coach, trainer, yoga and Pilates instructor, and founder of The ADHD Movement.
Getting diagnosed later in life helped me see that my so-called flaws were never the problem. I just needed the right tools and understanding.

Now, I help others do the same.
Each week, you’ll hear powerful stories, real conversations, and expert insights to help you turn your struggles into strengths and your self-doubt into self-belief.

Because when you understand your brain, everything changes.

So, if you’re ready to drop the mask and live unapologetically,
let’s get untangled and show the world what we’re made of. 🧡

It’s honest, funny, and full of those moments that make you feel seen.

S5 E25 - ADHD Untangled Rewind - Missing Periods: Finding Your Flow Again with Dr Nicola Sykes

Hey Untanglers!

This week, I'm so excited to bring SUCH an important topic back to the podcast and one that is rarely talked about: missing periods and how ADHD and lifestyle choices might be playing a bigger role than you’d think...

Dr Sykes is an author, scientist, and expert when it comes to understanding hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA). Nicola’s mission, following her own struggle with HA,  is to help people regain their periods, nourish their bodies, and ditch the stress-filled culture of over-exercising and under-eating.

We’ll talk about:

  • How ADHD’s intensity can fuel disordered eating and extreme behaviours
  • The link between HA, stress, and that sneaky cortisol…
  • Why “fueling your body” isn’t just a catchphrase - it’s the game changer you need.
  • Nicola’s practical tips for getting untangled and healthy again (hint: carbs are your friend
    ).
  • The emotional rollercoaster of recovery, self-acceptance, and… dating while healing.

This is a very raw and real episode for both me and Nicola as we share our personal struggles, as well as the laughs, revelations, and “a-ha!” moments we had throughout.

If you’ve ever felt lost in a sea of diet culture, or wondered if stress and ADHD are affecting your wellbeing, this episode might just be the missing piece which makes the full picture make sense… So listen in and let’s get untangled and show the world what we’re made of!

You can find out more about Dr Sykes work, including her book, support groups and consultations through her website.

S5 E23 - ADHD Untangled Rewind - ADHD and Hormones with Dr James Brown

In today's ADHD Rewind I'm re-Introducing our extraordinary guest, a figure I've eagerly awaited on this podcast since it began—a true hero in my eyes.

Ladies and gentlemen, please join us in welcoming the remarkable Professor James Brown!

Not only is Professor James Brown one of the esteemed hosts of the ADHD Adults podcast, but he also wears the hat of a charity owner and is the proud spouse of a previous ADHD Untangled guest, the incredible Mrs. ADHD.

With over two decades of dedicated research into the intricate world of hormones, James is a true authority on the subject. Given some recent personal challenges I've faced and the shared struggles of our friends and clients, it was imperative that we tapped into his wealth of knowledge. Engaging in a conversation about hormones was genuinely enlightening, and James's passion for the topic was evident throughout our discussion.

A profound revelation for me was discovering that hormones play a pivotal role in virtually every aspect of our lives. This episode offered me reassurance in understanding that the ebb and flow of emotions and experiences, whether throughout the month or our life journey, is perfectly normal. It's not merely us feeling like we're on an emotional rollercoaster; hormones are at the heart of this intricate process.

Get the tissues out as this  episode is a tear jerker as James shares honestly and openly  about his own struggles and strengths with ADHD,  sharing his passion and determination for helping others through his podcast.

It was an absolute honour and pleasure to interview James and was extremely comforting to know that YES hormones affect every aspect of your life and solidifies the notion that it is OK not to feel OK sometimes!

I really hope that you enjoy this one and fall in love with the absolutely amazing Professor James Brown!

S5 E21 - Untangling ADHD: Medication & Holistic Treatments with Joseph Pack

Is ADHD medication right for me?
Do I have to take it every single day?
Am I a failure if I decide to stop?

These are the questions so many of us quietly carry around — and in this episode, I sit down with Joseph Pack, founder of Drug Free ADHD, to bring them out into the open.

Together, we untangle:

🧡 The hidden risks of long-term medication — from sleep disruption to chronic illness.
🧡 The shame stories around starting, stopping, or changing meds (and why none of it means failure).
🧡 Heart rate variability (HRV) as a simple way to see how your body is really coping.
🧡 Why “one-size-fits-all” ADHD care is dangerous — and what a personalised approach can look like.
🧡 The power of lived experience over textbook answers — and why sometimes, you’ve just got to “make it exist first.”

This isn’t about being pro- or anti-medication. It’s about real talk, no judgement, and giving you the knowledge and permission to make informed choices that actually work for your life.

S5 E20 - Untangling ADHD: Yoga, ADHD & Breaking Barriers With Dianne Bondy

ADHD and yoga my two favourite subjects. And this week, I get to speak to one of my yoga heroes: Dianne Bondy social justice activist, author, accessible yoga teacher and founder of the Yoga For All movement.

Dianne is revolutionising yoga by making it genuinely inclusive and welcoming everyone, regardless of size, shape, background, or ability.

As a yoga teacher with ADHD, she shares how her practice helps manage ADHD symptoms, regulate her nervous system, and create moments of stillness in a fast-moving brain.

 In this episode, we explore:

🧡 Yoga as a powerful tool for ADHD focus and emotional regulation

🧡 Leading and teaching with a neurodivergent brain

🧡 Designing inclusive wellness spaces where every body and mind belongs

This conversation couldn’t be more aligned with my own mission. It’s exactly why I created the ADHD Yoga Foundation Training to support teachers in breaking barriers and building spaces where ADHD and neurodivergent students feel seen, safe, and included.

Dianne’s story is a reminder that ADHD brains deserve tools that honour how we experience the world and yoga can be one of the most transformative of those tools.

ADHD Untangled
S5 E19 - Untangling ADHD, Relationships and Relentless Drive with Jordan Wylie MBE

From soldier to adventurer, TV personality to Army Cadet ambassador, Jordan Wylie MBE has spent his life turning pain into purpose. In this episode, we dive into the ADHD traits that have fuelled his relentless drive – and the moments they’ve almost broken him.

What we untangle:

  • How ADHD shows up in relationships and the patterns Jordan had to face

  • Work addiction, ambition, and the “can’t stop, won’t stop” brain

  • Unmasking, finding empathy, and learning to value peace over constant chasing

  • Why failure isn’t something to fear but the fuel for growth

  • The education system, the dangers of social media validation, and the reality for ADHD teens

  • Why the outdoors has become his therapy and his take on “green” and “blue” therapy

  • The fire round: the mask he’s ditched, when he feels most like himself, and whether he’d choose life with or without ADHD

If you’ve ever felt like you had to keep proving yourself, or you’re still figuring out how to slow down without losing who you are, this one is for you.

S5 E18 - Untangling ADHD, Discipline & Redefining Masculinity with Gareth Timmins

Left school with one GCSE.
Felt stupid for most of his life.
Nearly ended up in jail.
Now he’s a Royal Marine Commando, psychologist, author and doing a PhD on decision-making and belief systems.

This episode with Gareth Timmins isn’t about ticking boxes or fitting in.
It’s about what happens when you stop proving your worth to the world — and start building a life that actually fits you.

We Untangle...

  • ADHD without a diagnosis and what it felt like.
  • School, shame, and feeling like you were already failing before you even began
  • Masculinity, masking, and the pressure to be “the strong one”
  • The dark side of discipline — and what real self-trust looks like.
  • Rejection, RSD, and why feeling undervalued can flip your whole life.
  • Life after sport — chasing highs, losing identity, and starting again.

Why breaking down doesn’t mean you’re broken.

If you’ve ever walked away from something and called it failure  this one’s for you.

“I’m not fragile. I’m not a failure. I just needed the right conditions to grow.”

ADHD Untangled
S5 E17 - Untangling ADHD & Why We Must Talk About Suicide with Kit Birks

What if the very thing you thought would end you became the reason you’re still here?

This episode reminded me of the original why behind this podcast.

ADHD Untangled was created to give hope. To empower. To prove that the very struggle that once made us feel broken can become our greatest strength. To reach the ones who are still in the middle of it — in the thick of addiction, shame, self-destruction — and remind them that it’s not too late. You are not too far gone.

In this powerful conversation, I sit down with writer, activist and adventurer Kit Birks just days before she sets off to walk the entire length of Europe solo. Her mission? To raise awareness around suicide, ADHD and the stories we’re told to keep silent about.

Kit shares her raw and honest story — from battling depression, eating disorders and addiction, to getting diagnosed with ADHD in recovery and finally realising she wasn’t broken, just misunderstood.

We explore the link between dopamine and destruction, how masking and emotional pain lead us into addiction, and how movement, nature and meaning can help us come back home to ourselves.

This one is deep, real and needed.

🧠 In this episode we cover:

  • ADHD, addiction and the missing dopamine piece

  • How emotional dysregulation, masking and shame fuel destructive behaviours

  • The life-changing power of diagnosis and self-compassion

  • The recovery process: messy, honest and ongoing

  • Using movement and nature to reconnect with yourself

  • Kit’s year-long solo walk across Europe for suicide prevention

  • The stories we carry and why we need to tell them

🎧 Listen if:

  • You’ve ever felt broken or like you didn’t belong

  • You’re navigating addiction, recovery or mental health struggles

  • You want to understand the real link between ADHD and self-destruction

  • You’re ready to hear a story of hope that doesn’t skip the hard parts

ADHD Untangled
S5 E16 - Untangling ADHD: Sports, Athletes & The Pressure to Be Perfect with Dr. Josephine Perry

🎧 ADHD in sport | performance anxiety | RED-S | perfectionism | coaching ADHD athletes

What happens when you’re great at something… but still don’t believe you are?

This week on ADHD Untangled, I’m joined by the brilliant Dr. Josephine Perry — sports psychologist, author of ADHD and Sport: Strategies for Success, and someone who knows how to bring the science to life without making it dry or clinical.

In this real, down-to-earth chat, we untangle:

  • Why ADHD is so common in elite sport (and how many coaches still miss it)
  • The link between ADHD, perfectionism, and performance anxiety
  • What happens when our strengths (like hyperfocus and risk-taking) start to work against us
  • RED-S, eating disorders, and how ADHD brains can get trapped in overtraining and under-fuelling
  • Why punishment in sport (like taking away playtime or shouting at latecomers) doesn’t work for ADHDers
  • And how movement should never be the thing we’re punished withholding — it’s the very thing that helps us regulate and thrive.

We also get personal about our own experiences — from overexercising and obsessive routines to the relief that came from understanding our brains and finally choosing meaningful work.

Whether you’re a coach, athlete, parent or just someone trying to figure out how ADHD fits into your world — this one’s full of real talk, relatable stories, and practical ways to start doing things differently.

🎯 Coaches — if you want to support your ADHD athletes without burning them out... listen to this.
💥 Athletes — if you’re tired of being told to just “try harder” or “stop fidgeting”... this is for you.
🧠 ADHDers — if you’ve ever felt like you’re playing life in hard mode... welcome home.

Come as you are. And let’s get untangled.

ADHD Untangled
S5 E15 - Untangling ADHD & Masking: The Hidden Cost of Pretending to Be “Normal”

Ever felt like you’ve spent your whole life pretending to be someone you’re not… without even realising it?

This one’s for you.

In today’s episode, we’re diving deep into the masks we wear – the people-pleaser, the overachiever, the chameleon, the ‘good girl’ or ‘good boy’ – all those roles we slip into without meaning to, just to feel safe, accepted, or "normal."

But unmasking? That’s a whole other story.

Together with Dr. Miguel (our go-to neuroscience and nervous system expert), we get real about the cost of masking, why unmasking isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing, and why it can feel so bloody exhausting trying to “just be yourself” when your nervous system doesn’t feel safe.

We explore:

  • The science behind masking, stress, and burnout
  • Why unmasking is less about big reveals and more about small, honest steps
  • The messiness of identity (and why it's OK to be in-between)
  • ADHD, intuition, and how your body always knows when you're faking it
  • And the wild parallels between coming out as neurodivergent and coming out as queer

PLUS: a hilarious (and painfully relatable) game of ‘Guess That Mask’ involving marathon medals, thank-you cards, and a very mysterious peach 🍑

Whether you're just starting to unmask or you're deep in it, this episode is your reminder: there’s no perfect way to be real. You don’t owe anyone a performance – just your presence.

Take an imperfect breath, let the dog off the leash, and come as you are.

And untangle ADHD with us

ADHD Untangled
S5 E14 - Untangling ADHD: ADHD, Phone Addiction & How Breathwork Can Help RSD with Jamie Clements

How many times have you been told to “calm down and take a breath” in the middle of an RSD meltdown?

If only it were that simple… or could it be?

This episode isn’t about some shiny new trend — it’s about breath. The one thing you carry with you every second of the day — and might just be the most powerful tool you’re not using.

I’m joined by Jamie Clements, breathwork coach, founder of The Breath Space, and quite honestly, one of the most authentic voices in the wellness world right now. What I love most about Jamie is that he’s not here to sell you perfection. He’s lived the struggle — from panic attacks and burnout to building a life (and business) rooted in purpose, self-connection and real, grounded service.

Together, we untangle:
🌀 Breathwork & ADHD — how simple practices can help with focus, burnout, anxiety, RSD, and that scattered, can’t-stop-won’t-stop feeling
📱 Phone addiction, dopamine, and why society is wired against our nervous systems
🧠 What it really means to live authentically — and how breath helps us come back to who we are
⚠️ Why wellness sometimes misses the mark — and how to do it your way, not the filtered version

If you’re struggling to show up as yourself, if your nervous system is in overdrive, or if meditation just isn’t your thing… then this one’s for you.

Just take an imperfect breath.
The kind that’s real, human, and enough.

🎧 Tune in. Breathe with us. And let’s get untangled 🧡

S5 E13 – Tangled in ADHD: Burnout, Stress & Hitting the Wall with Dr. Miguel Mateas

Game over. Done. Can’t feel awake even after a full night’s sleep?

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

In this episode, I’m joined by the brilliant Dr. Miguel Mateas (yes, even on holiday) to untangle what ADHD burnout really looks like. Not the kind of burnout that goes away after a weekend lie-in -  the deep kind that hits after weeks, months, maybe even years of pushing through when your brain’s been screaming for a break.

We talk masking, people-pleasing, emotional exhaustion and why so many of us keep missing the signs until it’s too late.

Here’s what we cover:

🧠 What ADHD Burnout Feels Like – That mental shutdown, task paralysis, and emotional numbness that hits when your system says enough.
🔬 What’s Actually Happening in the Brain – Miguel breaks down the science behind it. Low dopamine, nervous system stuck on high alert, and the cost of acting ‘normal’.
❤️ Real Recovery – Why “just rest” doesn’t cut it and how unmasking is part of the healing process.
🌱 Bouncing Forward – Not back to the person who pushed too hard, but into something more sustainable and true to you.
🧘‍♀️ Simple Tools That Help – No pressure, no perfection. Just small ways to regulate your system and find your way back to calm.

This one’s for anyone who’s burned out from trying to keep up — and blamed themselves for slowing down.

🎧 Listen now

Let’s get untangled and show the world what we’re made of 🧡🖤

S5 E11 - Tangled In ADHD: Big Feelings, Fight, Flight, Freeze & Fawn With Dr. Miguel Mateas

Hello Untanglers!

You know how it is, right? One minute you're fine, the next you're having a meltdown over… well, who even knows anymore?! 😂

Welcome back to another episode of Tangled In ADHD with the brilliant Dr. Miguel Mateas! In this episode, we're diving headfirst into the wild, wonderful and sometimes completely bonkers world of our Big Feelings and how they uniquely impact those of us with ADHD.

Dr. Miguel and I explore:

  • The Curse and the Gift: We discuss the double-edged sword of feeling everything so intensely, from powerful intuition to overwhelming emotional responses.
  • Fight, Flight, Freeze & Fawn: Understanding the various stress responses and how they manifest in our lives, especially the often-misunderstood "fawning" response.
  • RSD: More Than Just Rejection: We unpack Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, exploring the physical pain it can cause and the science behind why it feels so intense.
  • The Body-Brain Connection: How our emotions manifest physically, leading to everything from procrastination to physical sensations of pain.
  • Moving Beyond the Mind: Practical strategies for coping with big feelings, including grounding techniques and moving beyond just trying to “think” our way out of emotional overwhelm.

This episode is all about ditching the shame, laughing at our own chaos and understanding that it’s okay (and actually powerful) to feel everything so intensely…

Let’s get untangled and show the world what we’re made of 🧡🖤

S5 E10 - Tangled in ADHD: Food, Mood & A Dark Chocolate Addiction | A New Mini-Series With Dr. Miguel Mateas!

Hello Untanglers,

Talking to myself is nothing new... but even I was starting to get bored of my own voice on the solo episodes 😂

And seeing as one of my words for the year is collaborate, I knew exactly who I wanted to rope in first…

Enter: Dr. Miguel Mateas.

Creative neuroscientist.
And one of the only people I know who can give science some soul.

We’ve built a brilliant connection — fuelled by deep chats, honest laughs, WhatsApp check-ins, and like all good friendships, we first connected over food… specifically, a shared love (okay,  borderline addiction) with dark chocolate.

And we’re kicking things off with: Food & Mood

If your relationship with food is a bit, shall we say, tangled, you're in the right place. We’re not talking about those rigid diet rules that ADHD brains just laugh at. Instead, Dr. Miguel and I are getting into the real stuff:

🧠 Why We Eat How We Eat: Our own tales of bingeing, restricting and that fun cycle of "I'll just eat Doritos for dinner" Sound familiar?

🔬 The Science Bit (But Make it Make Sense!): Dr. Miguel explains the gut-brain connection, why our mood can go haywire after certain foods and what’s really going on.

❤️ No More Shame! We’re all about ditching the guilt. It’s about understanding your body, not fighting it.

🍫 That Dark Chocolate Obsession: Yep, we go there.

🌱 Finding Your Own Framework: Because "one size fits all" is a myth, especially for us. We talk about listening to your body and finding what actually works, even if it’s having tofu with sriracha for a week straight (Miguel, I’m looking at you!).

🤯 Meds & Munchies: Ever put on weight on your meds when everyone else loses their appetite? We’ve both been there!

This isn’t about perfect eating; it’s about awareness, self-compassion and figuring out how to nourish ourselves - brain, gut and soul - without losing our minds. Dr. Miguel brings the science, I bring the chaos and together we’re untangling it all.

🎧 Tune in for our first ever episode!

Let’s get untangled and show the world what we’re made of 🧡🖤

ADHD Untangled
S5 E8 – Untangling ADHD & Regret: When Rage Takes Over with 8x World Champion Liam Harrison

Ever been so emotionally dysregulated you’ve said something you didn’t mean — or worse, made an impulsive decision you instantly regretted?

If you’ve got ADHD, then of course you have. We know the drill.

But imagine that decision being broadcast live on TV… to the world.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to today’s guest.

Back by popular demand (and because I could chat to him for hours) — it’s round two with:

  • 8x Muay Thai World Champion
  • One of the most sought-after coaches on the planet
  • And the only man I know who can swallow 30 supplements in one mouthful without blinking

The legend himself — Liam Harrison — joins me for another raw and real chat about ADHD, setbacks and staying in the ring, both literally and metaphorically.

We talk about the split-second decision to retire after a loss… and the crash that followed.

Was it impulsivity? RSD? A fight-or-flight reaction wrapped in adrenaline? Probably all of the above. But what I love most is Liam’s honesty — the regret, the reflection, and the resilience to say: “Nah, I’m not done yet.”

We untangled:

  • How overtraining and burnout can sneak in under the mask of hyperfocus
  • Why routine is everything for ADHDers — and how losing it can unravel us fast
  • The chaos that can follow injury or retirement when movement has been your main dopamine fix
  • What schools still get wrong about ADHD — and why celebrating talent outside the box is so crucial
  • The importance of spotting emotional dysregulation in young athletes

This episode is more than just a conversation about ADHD and sport.

It’s about extreme behaviour.

It’s about what happens when your whole identity is wrapped up in one thing… and that thing suddenly disappears.

It’s about resilience, rage, and rewiring.

And it’s about how just one person who gets it — a coach, a teacher, a partner — can change the entire direction of your life.

Liam’s story isn’t just about fighting in the ring. It’s about fighting to stay grounded, regulated, and connected — even when the ADHD brain wants to burn it all down.

Want to learn more from Liam? Liam isn’t just a guest on the podcast — he’s part of our speaker line-up inside the Certified ADHD-Informed Coach Training.

ADHD Untangled
