In this episode of "1,001 Dents," we embark on a journey exploring the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) and spatial computing in the educational landscape. Hosted by Suzanne Lustenhouwer, an Apple Distinguished Educator from the class of 2013, this podcast delves into the inspiring stories of educators who are pioneering the use of technology to reshape learning experiences and prepare students for a future of spatial computing.
This episode features firsthand insights from Carlos Garcia and Ruben Bennett, two innovative educators from Valencia, Spain. They share their transformation from skeptics to advocates of AR in education. Initially perceiving students as mere content consumers, Carlos and Ruben underwent a paradigm shift when they discovered the creative potential of AR through apps like Reality Composer. This led to the development of augmented biographies and their own AR app, "GoReal," enhancing the way students interact with educational content.
We also hear from Anders Enström, a Swedish educator, who discusses his unique approach to teaching STEM subjects through AR. His projects, such as designing future trash cans on the streets of Malmo, showcase the practical application of AR in solving real-world problems.
Highlights from the episode:
The transformative journey of educators embracing AR as a powerful tool for learning and creativity.
The development of "GoReal," an app that enables complex AR experiences, fostering a rich, interactive learning environment.
The innovative use of AR in teaching abstract concepts like atoms and molecules, making intangible ideas tangible.
The impact of AR during the pandemic, offering new ways to learn outside traditional classroom settings.
Insightful advice for educators looking to incorporate AR into their teaching methodologies.

This is a 1001 dents. A podcast where we interview Apple Distinguished Educators from around the world about the impact that they are making in the classroom. Apple Distinguished Educators (or ADEs) pioneer new ways to engage students and improve learning outcomes through technology. Every ADE event starts with the statement, “We're here to make a dent in the universe, why else be here?" So in this podcast, we will take a closer look at those dents. From harnessing cutting-edge technology to crafting immersive learning experiences, our guests share their trials, triumphs, and the invaluable lessons they've learned along the way.
In this first series, we will listen to a collection of showcases that were given at the ADE Institute in the summer of 2023. A showcase is a three-minute talk on their best practice. After those three minutes, the lights go off, the microphone is muted, and that's it.
No time for errors, further explanations, or detours. It's one of the scariest talks I have ever given, but these stories of impact are always the highlight of the event.
But 3 minutes is incredibly short and always leaves us wanting more. So we will dive deeper into the stories behind the showcases with interviews with the ADEs to see the remarkable ways in which they are making an impact in the world of education.
