Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S43) The force had gone weeks without being catered for. Now they had Basra, they recharged there. Uthmaan Ibn Hunayf رضي الله عنه was beaten by a group of misinformed people. When Aisha رضي الله عنها heard of this, she immediately said what have you done? And Uthmaan رضي الله عنه was to be released. The Rawafid claim that it was Companions رضي الله عنهم who beat up Uthmaan Ibn Hunayf رضي الله عنه - this is completely baseless and a fabricated report! Aisha (a.s) uses her brilliance and writes letters to the major cities to elucidate what happened at Basra. She رضي الله عنها wrote to Shaam, Kufa, Yamamah and Madinah. She رضي الله عنها mentioned that the Khawarij wanted to hold her hostage! Imam Ali رضي الله عنه changes the capital from Madinah to Kufa. Why?: 1) He رضي الله عنه wanted no disrespect to be shown in Madinah, the blessed city. 2) He رضي الله عنه had a large following in Kufa. 3) There was funds in Iraq which could be used to supply war if needed. Ali رضي الله عنه gives his final Salaam to the Messenger ﷺ and leaves Madinah, never to return. How difficult this must have been, his entire life he رضي الله عنه spent with the Messenger ﷺ and now he has to leave…

S02 - Surah Al-Naml (27) Verse 7-8
Surah 27 The Female Ant v7-8 Session 2 'Verily I Am your Lord, thus put off your shoes...' The 70 Veils of Light There is no day or night with your Lord (SWT), indeed the immense light of the entire heavens is from the Light of His Face (SWT), Tabarani. ..His (SWT) veil is light. If He (SWT) removed His veil then the light of His Face (ie thus note that this Light from His Face [SWT] is separate from the light of the veil) would burn the sight of any of His creation who gazed upon Him, (Muslim) verse 8. The Reflection The image is manifested in the mirror but it is not transfigured into it. It is also quite evident that this manifestation refulgence was not the refulgence of Allah (SWT). No one has believed in anything better than believing in the unseen, Ibn Masood (ra) Hakim.

S42 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - The Messenger ﷺ: “The best of mankind are those who kill them [i.e the Khawarij] or are killed by them
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S42) The force reaches al-Hubayrah, an area just outside Basra. Messengers were sent calling for the nobles and leaders from the city to help identify the killers of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. The governor of Basra was Uthmaan Ibn Hunayf رضي الله عنه, he was appointed by Ali رضي الله عنه. Our mother Aisha (a.s) elucidates the situation to Uthmaan Ibn Hunayf رضي الله عنه. She رضي الله عنها also sends a letter to Abu Musa al-Ashari رضي الله عنه, who was the governor of Kufa appointed by Ali (a.s). Some people ignorantly claim that nothing good came out of the force that our mother رضي الله عنها gathered. This is false. One of the fruits was such; the killing of Hukaym Ibn Jabala, one of the rebel leaders. All but one of the rebels were wiped out. Talha and Zubayr رضي الله عنهم called out: “We are only here for Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه murderers. If you were not involved then stay away”. Such was the nobility of the Companions رضي الله عنهم. The Messenger ﷺ: “The best of mankind are those who kill them [i.e the Khawarij] or are killed by them [i.e the Khawarij]”.

S41 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - All of our mothers رضي الله عنهم agreed with Aisha رضي الله عنها that Uthmaan رضي الله عنه needed to be avenged.
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S41) All of our mothers رضي الله عنهم agreed with Aisha رضي الله عنها that Uthmaan رضي الله عنه needed to be avenged. Her followers were righteous people, Talha and Zubayr رضي الله عنهم said the followers were the best of people. Our mother Aisha رضي الله عنها was the most qualified of the Messenger’s ﷺ wives to lead here. The only difference in opinion between our mothers رضي الله عنهم was whether they should go to Madinah or Basra. Although this was a sad time in our history, it boosts our Iman. How? For many words of the Messenger ﷺ were, as always, proven to be true.

S40 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - Aisha’s رضي الله عنها leading was symbolic
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S40) Talha, Zubayr, Abdullah Ibn Zubayr and Abdullah Ibn Amir, the governor of Makkah, رضي الله عنهم all joined our the force of our mother Aisha رضي الله عنها. By being on Aisha’s رضي الله عنها side, Talha and Zubayr رضي الله عنهم did not break their pledge to Ali رضي الله عنه, for ultimately all parties’ goal was the same - avenge Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. It was just executed differently. The force was around 3,000. They headed for Basra, as it was neutral land and most of the rebels were in Madinah. The reasoning was as follows; 1) To avenge Uthmaan رضي الله عنه, and get his killers. 2) To show the true colours of the rebels and expose their mischief. 3) To bring peace between the Muslims. 4) to enjoin good and forbid evil. Aisha’s رضي الله عنها leading was symbolic: She being our mother رضي الله عنها was a symbol of peace. When the people see her coming they will stand down and realise the matter is serious and needs to be handled.

S39 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - The difficulties in avenging Uthmaan رضي الله عنه
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S39) The difficulties in avenging Uthmaan رضي الله عنه: No one could have been singled out as the murderer of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه, as many people were involved. There was also not enough witnesses so Ali رضي الله عنه could not make plans to go forward. Talha asked Ali for leadership in Basra, Zubayr asked Ali (رضي الله عنهم) for leadership in Kufa, so they could immediately get vengeance for Uthmaan رضي الله عنه and destroy the Khawarij. Ali رضي الله عنه said he needed time to think about this. Putting it simply; this difference in opinion between how the vengeance of Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه murder should be handled is what caused the civil war to break out between the noble Companions رضي الله عنهم. Today we still discuss this, and these souls are in Firdaus. Our mother Aisha رضي الله عنها very wisely decides to stay in Makkah upon hearing that Uthmaan رضي الله عنه was murdered and that rebels were loose in Madinah…

S38 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - Ali’s رضي الله عنه election to the high post
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S38) Ali’s رضي الله عنه election to the high post: Madinah was leaderless. Chaos was spread. The time came for Imam Ali رضي الله عنه to become the Khalif. al-Ghaafiqee Ibn Harb, one of the rebel leaders, led Madinah for 5 days upon the martyrdom of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. The rebels searched for a new leader, so they could get the blame off themselves for the crimes they had committed. The Companions رضي الله عنهم approach Ali رضي الله عنه and say you are the most worthy of Khilafat amongst us. Ali رضي الله عنه called for the allegiance to be done in the blessed Masjid. Ali رضي الله عنه later would say the only reason he became Khalif was out of fear that Islam would diminish.

S37 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - When Talha رضي الله عنه heard of Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه martyrdom he made dua for him,
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S37) Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه Khilafat lasted 12 years. The first 6 were peaceful, the last 6 was when the fitnah began. The mischief mongers were spreading their propaganda, wanting to destroy Islam from within. The rebels were lead by the following; Abdul Rahman Ibn Udays, Malik al-Ashtar and Hukaym Ibn Jabla. When Talha رضي الله عنه heard of Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه martyrdom he made dua for him, and said may the killers perish! He then recited Surah [36:49]. Talha رضي الله عنه said: “Certainly, Uthmaan رضي الله عنه was innocent”. Uthmaan’s رضي الله عنه funeral was so packed, if you threw a stone it would certainly land on someone’s head (I.e no space was left free). Talha رضي الله عنه was ~63 when Uthmaan رضي الله عنه was martyred. Uthmaan رضي الله عنه was ~84.

Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S36) Ali’s son, Muhammad Ibn al-Hanafiyah رضي الله عنهم said his father never spoke ill of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. Ali رضي الله عنه: “Whoever speaks ill of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه is like the one who tries to stab someone that is behind him, by stabbing though his own stomach!”. Talha رضي الله عنه was of the last to pledge to Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. Uthmaan رضي الله عنه said: “Should you want, I will step down”. Talha رضي الله عنه said no, you will lead and gave Uthmaan رضي الله عنه the pledge. The love between Uthmaan, Ali and Talha رضي الله عنهم was such.

S35 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - The council was long, the decision was difficult. It took Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf رضي الله عنه three days to decide
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S35) With Umar’s رضي الله عنه passing, Talha رضي الله عنه was around 51 years old. Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf رضي الله عنه said let us boil it down to three of us. Zubayr رضي الله عنه stepped down and nominated Ali رضي الله عنه. Talha رضي الله عنه stepped down and nominated Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. Sa’ad Ibn Abi Waqaas رضي الله عنه stepped down and nominated Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf رضي الله عنه. The council was long, the decision was difficult. It took Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf رضي الله عنه three days to decide his decision. Abdul Rahman couldn’t sleep and tells his nephew Miswar Ibn Mahrama رضي الله عنهم to summon Zubayr and Sa’ad Ibn Abi Waqaas رضي الله عنهم. They discuss for a portion of the night. He then called for Ali, discussed for half the night and then called Uthmaan رضي الله عنهم and discussed till Fajr. The 3 days were up… Everyone gathers in Masjid Nabi ﷺ. The blessed 6 رضي الله عنهم gather near The Messenger’s ﷺ pulpit and the senior Companions رضي الله عنهم were at the front. The people were in agreement and Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf رضي الله عنه says to Ali رضي الله عنه that Uthmaan رضي الله عنه shall be the successor.

Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S34) Umar رضي الله عنه knew one thing about each of the 6 of the 10 promised Paradise رضي الله عنهم which he said a leader must not have…their relationship was like no other. The blessed assembly: Abdullah Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهم asks his father if he is going to appoint a successor. Umar رضي الله عنه replies that The Messenger ﷺ didn’t appoint a successor. Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه appointed a successor. Abdullah Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه realised his father was not going to appoint a successor… The successor was to be decided by the council of 6, رضي الله عنهم. Abdullah Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه was appointed a referee if there was a 3-3 vote split. Umar رضي الله عنه summons Abu Talha رضي الله عنه and says gather 50 Ansar رضي الله عنهم to also decide between the 6.

S33 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - Umar رضي الله عنه was in his thoughts, deciding who should succeed him…
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S33) Talha رضي الله عنه sees Umar رضي الله عنه leave his dwelling and entering other dwellings at the dead of night. Talha رضي الله عنه made investigations. Umar رضي الله عنه was taking care of an old, blind crippled woman. He had been doing this for years. Talha رضي الله عنه said to himself: “May your mother [رضي الله عنها] lose and bereave you, O Talha”. Umar رضي الله عنه was in his thoughts, deciding who should succeed him… Umar رضي الله عنه told Abdullah Ibn Abaas رضي الله عنهم that a man must have 4 traits to be a leader; To be strong, but not harsh. To give generously, but not be extravagant. To be lenient, but do not be weak. To be cautious in accounting, but not stingy. Abdullah Ibn Abaas رضي الله عنهم said: “None had these traits except Umar رضي الله عنه”.

S32 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - Umar رضي الله عنه held Talha رضي الله عنه in high regard
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S32) Umar رضي الله عنه held Talha رضي الله عنه in high regard. Umar once saw Talha رضي الله عنهم wearing an Ihraam, with a red, clay stained colour. Umar رضي الله عنه asked: “What is this?”. Talha رضي الله عنه replied: “It is my Ihraam. It is permissible”. (Different colours are permissible but white is best). Umar رضي الله عنه replied lovingly: “You are an Imaam to the people. I fear the people [who are ignorant] will imitate you, claiming Talha رضي الله عنه wore red, so we will. Refrain from this from now on”. The Messenger ﷺ prohibited the selling of gold for gold, silver for silver, barley for barley and dates for dates. Exchanging these items when they are of the same value is classed as Riba. One must first sell his item (I.e gold) then use that money to buy another product of gold of the same value. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى knows best. Umar رضي الله عنه: “If the people knew how much love, compassion and mercy I had for them, they’d rip the clothes off my back!”. (I.e they’d take advantage).

S31 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - The Messenger ﷺ: “The Dua of my brother Yunus [a.s] is astonishing
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S31) The Messenger ﷺ: “The Dua of my brother Yunus [a.s] is astonishing. The beginning is Taheel, the middle is Tasbeeh, the end is the confession of the lapse…”. Whoever is in debt/grieved and recites the Dua of Prophet Yunus a.s 3 times, will be alleviated from their worries. If you are ill and recite it 40 times, and you die, you will be martyred. If you survive, your sins will be wiped out. Abu Bakr’s رضي الله عنه rule was short but super; In 2 years, the apostates were dealt with, the zakat-avoiders were handled, the false prophets were crushed and attacks were launched against the Roman and Persian superpowers. Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه crowned off his rule by appointing Umar رضي الله عنه as his successor. Some Companions رضي الله عنهم weren’t fully sure that Umar رضي الله عنه should have succeeded, for whilst yes he was a titan amongst men, he was known to be harsh. Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه explains why Umar رضي الله عنه was so, and says: “Umar [رضي الله عنه] is the best of creation” (I.e after him of course). The Messenger ﷺ: “I have 2 Ministers in the Heavens, one harsh [Jibraaeel (a.s)] and one gentle [Mikaeel (a.s)]. Both are correct. I have 2 Companions on Earth, one harsh [Umar رضي الله عنه] and one gentle [Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه]. Both are correct”. Talha رضي الله عنه was around 40 years old when Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه passed away.

S30 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - A huge lesson can be learnt from Talha رضي الله عنه: Do not assume when it comes to Revelation
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S30) Talha رضي الله عنه during the reign of the 2 Grand Shaykhs رضي الله عنهم: Umar رضي الله عنه sees Talha رضي الله عنه visibly upset and asks: “Why do I now see you uncharacteristically unkempt after The Messenger’s ﷺ passing? Is it because your cousin [Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه] has become the Khalif?”. Talha رضي الله عنه replies: “No. I of all the people would not feel this way!”. Talha رضي الله عنه explains what was bothering him was that The Messenger ﷺ said there is a word that if you recite when you are dying, your soul is removed easily, but Talha رضي الله عنه wasn’t exactly sure what that word was. Umar رضي الله عنه said he knew what it was: La Ila Ha il Allah [سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى]. Talha رضي الله عنه says you have spoken the truth, it is now as if a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders. A huge lesson can be learnt from Talha رضي الله عنه: Do not assume when it comes to Revelation. The words of The Messenger ﷺ are not to be taken lightly and one must implement what he learns… Such is our state! What is beloved to us, the Companions رضي الله عنهم didn’t care about. What they loved, we treat as light…Talha رضي الله عنه was seen in a state of ‘spiritual depression’ over Zhikr - we treat Zhikr as a minor thing. Our depression is exclusive to worldly affairs.

Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S29) Talha رضي الله عنه did not relate Hadiths. as-Saa’ib Ibn Yazeed (r.h) spent time with Talha, Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf Sa’ad Ibn Abi Waqaas and Miqdaad رضي الله عنهم. He (r.h) said none of them related Hadith, except Talha رضي الله عنه who related about Uhud. During the farewell Hajj, Talha رضي الله عنه had a special honour; when The Messenger ﷺ shaved his blessed head, Talha رضي الله عنه was the one who distributed the blessed hair. (Reports mention also Abu Talha رضي الله عنه). Imam Ali رضي الله عنه: “I have heard with my own ears, The Messenger ﷺ said Talha and Zubayr [رضي الله عنهم] will be my neighbours in Paradise”.

S28 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - The third Kalimah, the everlasting deeds…
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S28) The Messenger ﷺ: “The best of mankind is the one whose age is long and deeds are bountiful. The worst of mankind is the one whose age is long and his deeds are corrupt”. The third Kalimah, the everlasting deeds… Why was Talha رضي الله عنه the one to have these dreams? Beautifully put; he craved martyrdom at Uhud, but lived on ~35 years afterwards! In those years, the works he did were unfathomable! Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى was giving him something greater than martyrdom, a long life full of piety. اَللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ. Why are we surprised regarding the works of this man, for The Messenger ﷺ said: “Abu Bakr will be in Paradise. Umar will be in Paradise. Uthmaan will be in Paradise. Ali will be in Paradise. Talha will be in Paradise. Zubayr will be in Paradise. Abdul Rahman Ibn Awf will be in Paradise. Sa’ad Ibn Abi Waqaas will be in Paradise. Sa’eed Ibn Zayd will be in Paradise. S27 - Talha Ibn Ubaydullah (ra) - The Salah is to be led according to the weakest amongst us.
Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S27) Talha رضي الله عنه once led the prayer and after he finished he asked: “O people, I did not confer with you prior. Are you pleased with me leading?”. The people in unison said: “Of course, O selected Companion of The Messenger ﷺ”. Talha رضي الله عنه said: “I heard The Messenger ﷺ say: ‘If a person leads and the people aren’t happy with him, the Salah does not go past the [Imaams] ears’”. The Salah is to be led according to the weakest amongst us. The Messenger ﷺ teaches Talha رضي الله عنه how valuable the Fardh are: Talha رضي الله عنه sees 2 men (رضي الله عنهم) in a dream. One of them passed away a year earlier, he was martyred. The second man passed away a year later, in his bed. However, the one who passed away later entered Paradise first (as Talha رضي الله عنه saw in his dream). This was due to how valuable the Fardh is! The man had an extra year of Fasting in Ramadan and his Salah…
