Over the past 14 months, Watonga City Manager, Karrie Beth Little, has opened her preverbal podcast door to transparency in the government workplace and highlighted the city of Watonga. During this time, she has opened our understanding of the manager role and other public sector employee positions and in detail, shared perspectives regarding government officials and legal understandings. A healthy rural Oklahoma makes a healthy urban Oklahoma! Looking ahead, the Ferguson Museum is hosting a tea May 4th and Watonga will be hosting a Fly In with free plane rides May 25th. That Memorial Day weekend the Former Watonga Students association are having an event at the new HS. So many great events coming up in our city! Tentative date has been set for the City wide Garage May 31 to June 1st, keep listening for more details. Today’s special guest is Mike Sanders, Executive Director Oklahoma Broadband. It’s been a little over 1 year since Director Mike Sanders took the reins at the Broadband Office. In this time, he has visited over 30 cities and towns hearing directly from Oklahomans, he launched the first grant program. “High speed internet is a way of life,”he shared; in economics, tourism, healthcare, and educationally. Currently, 600,000 Oklahomans do not have high speed internet. Closing the digital divide; there has been 1.3 billion Federal dollars appropriated for this Oklahoma project. Currently, 2906 individuals, that’s 35% of Blaine county that does not have high speed internet. The Legislature designated ARPA State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds to create and administer the broadband investment grant program. Grant funds of $374 million will be coupled with more than $90 million in matching funds from 31 internet service providers (ISPs) that submitted approved proposals for service expansion, that includes 57 of the 77 counties in Oklahoma. Access to high-speed internet builds connections not only in business and education, but also families. With new digital technologies, families can stay in touch while grandparents visit with grandchildren via face time technologies. Connectivity is how we make a better tomorrow! Watonga City Manager Minute podcast host Karrie Beth Little brought together special guests; Darien Chebahtah, TOR director Tribal Opioid Response Project with Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes and Kimberly Jenkins WEDA director along with me, BrandLogix Mobile Marketing podcast site host, Teresa France to discuss this weekend's upcoming Communities Care Event; Saturday Feb.10th beginning at 10a. at the Watonga Armory. The objective of the event is to bring together lifesaving resources by providing harm reduction strategies for people and families who are struggling with addiction and other crisis situations. All 44 vendors have a resource available for individuals or families in need or for a community member that may know someone who might need assistance currently or in the future. Our city, along with many others, see the problem we are facing and are reaching out to offer resources to our community. This event has something for EVERYONE...food, culture, kids events, addiction education resources, counseling, Narcan kits and a medication drug take back drop site location. It's a day of reaching resources and a collaboration with the City of Watonga and TOR Cheyenne and Arapaho tribal Opioid Response program, and so many others who want to save lives; reaching one person at a time. In this weeks Watonga City Manager Minute Monday podcast, Karrie Beth hosts City Mayor, Bill Seitter, along with TB Ferguson, museum board president, Connie Burcham, and myself; BrandLogix podcasting site host, Teresa France to discuss the future outlook and path of the Ferguson home/museum. Discussions included: how do we move forward with revitalization of the museum, who is responsible of and to the museum, donations and membership, grant writing requirements/grant management along with support ideas and museum preservation. Questions posed by Ferguson Board President to the citizens of Watonga: 1) if you are in favor of the City of Watonga to continue with the management, at what cost will it be be to the community for other services ie: additional taxations or at what costs to other needed infrastructure services for community. 2) if you don’t agree the city should continue financial support of the museum and do not want added taxes to our community and prefer infrastructure should be the City of Watonga’s governing priority, are you willing to volunteer your time, visit the museum and write a check for support and become an “active member” at the Ferguson museum?
