In this episode my guest is Dr. Kevin J. Tracey and we are discussing one of the most fascinating and revolutionary discoveries in modern medicine — the link between the vagus nerve, the inflammatory reflex, and the body’s innate ability to heal. For years, inflammation has been seen as a silent driver behind chronic illness — from autoimmune disease and depression to heart disease and neurodegeneration. But what if the body already has a built-in mechanism to control it? Dr. Tracey is the president and CEO of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research at Northwell Health, a pioneer of vagus nerve research and author of The Great Nerve. A leader in the scientific fields of inflammation and neuroscience, his lab studies vagus nerve stimulation and bioelectronic medicine. His contributions include first identifying the therapeutic action of monoclonal anti-TNF antibodies and discovering the specific reflex control of immunity by the nervous system, called the “inflammatory reflex.” These discoveries launched the new scientific field called bioelectronic medicine, which investigates the therapeutic applications of vagus nerve stimulation to cure disease. Dr. Tracey, a neurosurgeon, pursued studies of inflammation after the mysterious death of a toddler from sepsis who was in his care. His lab has since revealed molecular mechanisms of inflammation and identified the use of vagus nerve stimulation to treat it. An inventor on more than 120 U.S. patents and the author of more than 450 scientific publications, he is among the most highly cited scientists in the world. He co-founded the Global Sepsis Alliance, is the author of Fatal Sequence (Dana Press) and is a national and international lecturer. Breaking Barriers In Healthcare: Making Ear Care Safe, Fast And Accessible With Sahil Diwan
In this episode we are diving into the surprisingly fascinating world of cerumen, the scientific name for earwax. We'll explore its protective role, why some people produce more than others, and what happens when it builds up too much. Plus, we’ll introduce you to a safe, innovative technique that’s changing the way we manage earwax buildup—no risky poking required. Sahil Diwan is the Co-Founder and CEO of SafKan Health, the company behind OtoSet® — the world’s first automated ear-cleaning headphones that can clean earwax buildup in 30 seconds. He’s on a mission to solve one of the most overlooked yet widespread health issues: earwax buildup, which affects 35M+ Americans and can lead to conductive hearing loss, tinnitus, and chronic discomfort — among other issues. A first-generation immigrant from India, Sahil’s journey began with a deeply personal problem — his brother Aadil's lifelong struggle with earwax buildup. What started as a college dorm experiment with 3D-printed prototypes is today an FDA-cleared medical device used by clinics nationwide — making ear care more accessible and consumer-friendly than ever before. The company’s flagship OtoSet was named among the Best Health Designs of 2023 by Fast Company, while videos of the device in action have racked up over 250M views online, proving just how urgent and universal this problem is. Tens of thousands of Americans have reported finding relief with OtoSet: hearing clearer, feeling cleaner, and reconnecting with the sounds they’ve been missing. Sahil is one of the youngest people ever to receive FDA 510(k) clearance for a medical device and has raised $13M in venture funding on his journey to reshape the future of ear care. After graduating, he undertook a residency in neurological surgery at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center until 1997. He then pursued a Fellowship and Chief Residency in Spinal Biomechanics at the University of New Mexico until 1999. Licensed in California and Nevada, Dr. Gross has SPINE practices in Orange County and Henderson, Nevada. A trained neurological surgeon, he specializes in athletic injuries and spine procedures and offers longevity and biohacking consultations. He achieved board certification by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a member of several prestigious medical societies. He has written textbooks and articles in his area of expertise and is a peer-reviewer for the state of California and a scientific journal. Since 2020, Top Doctor recognized Dr. Gross as a leading Neurological Surgeon. He also received HealthTap’s 2022 Top Doctor Award as a top Neurological Surgeon in the U.S. Dr. Gross founded ReCELLebrate, focusing on anti-aging and regenerative medicine. Learning Points: • What are stem cells and exosomes? • How are stem cells being used in regenerate and longevity medicine? • How can lifestyle choices amplify the longevity effects of regenerative treatments? Removing Roadblocks To Success With Your Physical Therapist With Dr. Chad Nowlin
In this episode we speak with our guest Dr. Chad Nowli about removing roadblocks to success with your Physical Therapist. Dr. Nowlan is a pioneering physical therapist and the Founder of NRG Physio, a revolutionary approach to physical therapy that emphasizes accurate diagnosis and holistic treatment. With a strong background in anatomy and a passion for improving musculoskeletal health, Chad has developed an innovative evaluation process called the Keystone Reset. This process challenges traditional physical therapy methods by addressing root causes rather than symptoms, providing comprehensive and lasting relief from chronic pain. Learning Points: 1. Common misconceptions people have about pain and injury prevention 2. Why many people who have not had success with Physical Therapy 3. What the Keystone Reset is and how it can revolutionize Physical Therapy Social Media Handles/Website Address LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chadrnowlin/ Website: https://nrgphysio.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@chadrnowlin Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nrgphysio Twitter: https://twitter.com/chadrnowlin
