20. 'My kids are gifted. They must have got it from their dad, right?'

Lotte is a mother of 4 kids, some of whom are gifted. Her son's coach recently told her: 'your children got their intelligence from you'. But Lotte can't believe that she would be the gifted parent. It surely must have come from their dad's side, right?

I get approached by so many moms like Lotte, who simply can't believe they are gifted themselves. Women who feel the opposite of smart. Tune in to this conversation to hear me coach Lotte on how to change her self-image.

19. 'Am I showing off?' On dealing with jealous people

Regina is an architect who fears she comes across as a 'show-off'. She wants to feel proud of the things she does, but doesn't want others to resent her for her achievements. Her friends often aren't willing to celebrate her, and she's seen several friendships end over this. How to deal with the jealousy of others?

In this session, we discuss how being confident and successful can inspire some but trigger others. Being gifted can lead to mixed responses from people around you. And it's easy to fall into the trap of dimming your light to try to be more relatable. Listen to this episode to find out how to deal with this.

18. 'If only I'd found out about giftedness sooner...'

Manon found out about her giftedness later in life, and struggles with sadness around this discovery. She feels like it's too late, she has many regrets, and wishes she could turn back the clock so she could do 'big things'. Now she wonders: what should I do next?

A 'late' discovery often comes with mixed feelings. It can be overwhelming, and even make you feel like you're grieving. Mourning the opportunities that were lost because you didn't know sooner. Mourning because you spent so much time trying to adapt and wish away your 'weirdness', instead of pursuing grand ambitions.

In this coaching session, I guide Manon through these complex feelings and address this sadness.

16. Dare to be different, at any age

Yury is a 22-year old gifted student from Russia who feels like he is different from others in his age group. He prioritizes and values different things, and struggles with societal pressure to act more like a 'normal 22-year-old'. He is concerned he should be going out and partying more, instead of being so focused on work.

In this episode, we focus on two issues:

1. How to live his life authentically as a gifted person, and own the ways in which he diverges from the norm

2. How to divide his time between work and studies according to his own wishes - and no one else's.

15. This is your life. Live it for YOU.

This episode exposes the limits of what coaching can do. It shows the difference between therapy versus coaching.

I am joined by Libby, who starts off the conversation with a focus on time management. But along the way, we uncover the underlying reasons as to why Libby is short on time and can't accomplish her goals. Here, we touch on traumatic topics including abuse, toxic family dynamics, and unrealistic expectations around caregiving.

Libby and I both acknowledge that I am not the qualified person to give her the support she needs, but we agree to approach the subjects from a coaching perspective. Have a listen to the moving conversation that results from this.

9. Master strategic communication and solve your workplace conflicts

Laura has a passion for social transformation. But the structures and rules of her corporate job suffocate her. She is frustrated by 'business-as-usual' practices, the constant focus on profit, and her colleagues' lack of reflection on business ethics. So, Laura wants to spark change from within. Yet she keeps running into resistance: her emails filled with rational arguments and facts often get ignored, and she keeps clashing with colleagues.

In this episode, I coach Laura to help her see why she continues to have fall-outs in the workplace. And I help her understand how she can avoid those conflicts in the future, whilst staying true to herself and her values. Together, we uncover how she can maximize her impact, and actually achieve the social change she aspires to, by getting people on her side (rather than pitted against her).

We break down, bit by bit, how she can work on her own communication style. I call this 'strategic communication' (my clients know all about this). Once you master this skill, it's a total game changer! The issues we discuss in this session are incredibly common among gifted people - so if you relate to these workplace tensions, this episode is for you.

BONUS: Towards the end of the episode, I share an anecdote about my time working for a non-profit, and how I almost got fired because I clashed so much with authority. I share the exact steps I undertook to manage this situation.

8. 'Your advice still rings in my head to this day' - Former client success story

Anne is a remarkably talented person, and a former client of mine. In this episode, she shares how her life has developed since we completed our coaching program two years ago. What stands out, is the long-term impact that my coaching has had on her. She had to overcome some big challenges, including having never obtained a high school diploma. Yet today, Anne is thriving in life, has marvelous plans for the future, and shares the biggest insights that have helped her become so successful at all the things she does.

I was completely blown away by Anne's wisdom, and delighted to hear just how much she has transformed and grown through the work we did together. As a coach, there is no better feeling in the world than to see my clients - former and current - rocking it!

If you want to know whether coaching can truly have a life-changing, and lasting impact, this episode is for you.

7. The key to success? Conform less, rebel more!

Brandon is pursuing an academic career in Neuroscience, and comes into this session with a big question: How can I reach the big career success I desire in a highly specialized field, without sacrificing the diversity of my many interests and talents?

Together, we uncover his big career vision, working at highly esteemed institutions like MIT. He is frustrated about his training being so focused about factual knowledge and not about the big abstract questions. We stumble upon limiting beliefs around 'making sacrifices', having to work 80 hours a week in order to succeed, and Brandon's belief that he needs to wait until tenured professorship to be able to engage with the high-level philosophical questions that got him hooked on Neuroscience to begin with.

I help Brandon understand that he doesn't need to keep waiting. Instead, he can already start creating his own opportunities to do the high level thinking, here and now. All it takes, is to conform less and rebel more...

Please make sure to listen through to the end of this session, where the biggest mindset shifts take place!

6. What are you withholding from the world due to perfectionism?

Payam is an Iranian man who is twice exceptional (2E), experiencing giftedness in combination with ADHD and Autism. He is passionate about his field of Natural Language Processing, yet for the past years, he’s experienced severe delays with his MA degree. Overthinking, anxiety, and perfectionism keep slowing him down, and assignment deadlines frequently lead to panic attacks.

In this episode we explore the source of his perfectionism, tracing its origin back through time. We stumble upon a deeply engrained belief Payam holds about himself: ‘I cannot do it because I am challenged…’

I help Payam understand the cost of his perfectionism, not just for himself but also for his field, and ultimately, for the entire world. For the sake of the impact his contributions can make, he needs to get out of his own way. This very insight leads to an emotional break-through that I invite you to witness.

5. Just admit it... You're bored!

Meet Antonia, an ambitious clinical psychology student, based in Vienna. She brings two topics to the table. In the first half, we discuss her struggles with procrastination. Because while she enjoys psychology as a topic, she admits that she puts everything off until the last minute. Despite the little effort she puts in, she still gets great results. This makes her feel guilty, and insecure, as she wonders: 'Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I am missing?' In this episode, I coach Antonia around the topic of boredom, and I help her see why trying to force herself to spend more time studying is not the way forward. Instead, I invite her to focus LESS on her studies, and MORE on her other interests, including her political ambitions.

This brings us to the second half of the session, where we dive into the theme of action-taking within & despite already existing, rigid structures. Antonia has big visions, and is an empathetic leader, but too often, she steps back to let others take the stage. She is prone to 'obeying the rules' and fitting into the system, rather than following her own divergent ideas. I help her redefine her understanding of leadership, and overcome the mindset blocks that have been keeping her from going after her political aspirations. Because ultimately, the world needs more divergent thinkers, and more empathy, not less...

4. "Self-care isn't selfish. It's selfless"

Amelie comes into this session with big questions: 'What am I going to do with my life?', and 'How do I fit into this world?'. She feels insecure about herself, because while she is good at many different things, she isn't 'the best' at anything in particular. And so, she tells me: 'I am not extraordinary'. In this episode, I coach Amelie around this negative belief about herself, and I gently guide her through exercises focused on affirmations and positive self-talk. It makes her incredibly uncomfortable, and leaves her shaking with emotion.

In truth, at only 19 years old, Amelie has an extraordinary life story to tell: she's travelled the world on her own, battled depression, overcome an eating disorder, and has a huge drive to now use her experiences to help others who are struggling. Although she herself doesn't believe it at first, during his conversation she slowly starts to see that she has a lot to offer the world. The first thing she needs to do is to get out of 'turtle mode', to stop hiding herself, and instead to become the person she wants to be (and deep down already is) : her true authentic 'sunshine' self.

Coming out of turtle mode can be scary, and Amelie certainly feels all the feels during this session. Do listen until the end, where Amelie receives a huge insight around why she struggles so much with being her authentic joyful self: she feels it's selfish to focus on her own happiness. But I help her to see why prioritizing her own joy is a selfless act that ultimately benefits the entire world around her.

3. How to cope with social anxiety and create more authentic friendships

Steve is known by his friends to be the life of the party, a true 'social butterfly'. But few know that Steve himself grapples with deep-rooted social anxiety. As soon as he is not the center of attention, he feels excluded from the rest of the group. This really bothers him, so in this session, I coach him to get a better understanding of why social situations are so stressful and often upsetting to him. He is even concerned that he may be a narcissist, as he feels a constant need for validation from those around him. So in this conversation, we delve deeper into the topic of friendship, fear of exclusion, and the desire to belong.

In this episode, we trace Steve's development from the kid that used to eat his school lunches alone, not part of the 'cool kids' at all, to the popular guy he is today. We get to the bottom of his social anxiety, and the unhealthy coping mechanisms he's developed to hide his insecurities. I help Steve see what he can do to start showing up more authentically in his relationships with others, and how to stop depending so heavily on others for validation. The vulnerability of this coaching session is truly remarkable, and Steve leaves this session with powerful take-aways.

2. "You fail to MEET people's expectations, because you EXCEED them"

Marlies came into this session wanting to talk about her tendency to procrastinate, but we end up talking about much deeper, underlying issues. You see, Marlies struggles with a fear of disappointing others. She is scared to let people down. Because that's how she has often felt in life: like she doesn't fit the mold.

In this episode, we get to the bottom of this fear, and Marlies finally gets to understand why it is that she is so afraid of failing to meet people's expectations. And it has nothing to do with a lack of ability... In fact, it's quite the opposite.

Charlotte is a physical therapist from Belgium who recently found out she is gifted. But she struggles to recognize herself as such, and feels like an imposter. In this session, I help Charlotte to ease that sense of pressure that is weighing her down. I also help her to completely shift the way she thinks about her imposter syndrome. My coaching approach catches her off-guard, because that shift is not what you would ever expect...
