Muffy Walker Authors On Fire Interview – MEMORY WEAVERS

Hi, I’m Muffy Walker, an author with a passion for crafting compelling fiction that educates and inspires. Through my stories, I aim to shed light on important topics, sparking meaningful conversations and fostering greater understanding.
My journey to becoming an author has been shaped by a rich background in mental health advocacy. As the founder of the International Bipolar Foundation, I’ve dedicated much of my life to raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental health. I hold a Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA, and I’ve written extensively on mental health topics, contributing chapters, guides, and newspaper articles to the field.
Now, I’m channeling that experience into my fiction, weaving together my professional expertise and personal passions to create stories that entertain while offering insights into complex, real-world issues. My goal is to educate readers in a way that feels natural, engaging, and thought-provoking.
When I’m not writing, I love exploring exotic destinations, savoring decadent chocolate desserts, and spending time with my dogs. I’m also an avid pickleball player and enjoy the strategy and fun of Mah Jong.
Through my writing, I hope to connect with readers on a deeper level, offering not just stories but opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow. Thank you for joining me on this exciting new chapter of my journey!

Annelies George Firebird Book Award Winner Author Interview

Author, blogger, senior model, financial executive and initiator of Loveable Light
Born in Bussum, the Netherlands, I began writing in my youth. During the summer holidays I wrote short stories with my sister, Marianne.
I began writing in earnest at a later age. Concerned about the current situation in this world, I started to write a five-part fiction series (The Jessie Golden Earth Series) in which I reflect on what can happen if change doesn’t come. I find it very important to intertwine fiction with reality to share  my point of view on things that matter. It also led to the Loveable Light initiative
I have a long track-record in the international IT finance world, working as (international) manager for companies like Cisco, HP and Microsoft.
Sometimes I get a gig as senior model. Due to my everyday job combined with writing, my time is limited. However, I love to make time for a photo shoot to support my own activities.

Patricia Leavy Firebird Book Award Winner Author Interview

Patricia Leavy, Ph.D., is a best-selling, award-winning novelist, arts advocate, and internationally recognized leader in research design and arts-based research.
She is widely considered the world’s most visible proponent of arts-based research as a means of making research publicly accessible. Moreover, she coined the terms “social fiction” and “fiction-based research” and has been pioneering the world-wide effort to legitimate fiction as a research practice. A prolific author, Dr. Leavy has published over 40 books.
She has earned critical and commercial success in both nonfiction and fiction, and her work has been translated into numerous languages. Dr. Leavy’s works have garnered a slew of book awards, over 100, including USA Best Book Awards, Independent Press Awards, International Impact Book Awards, National Indie Excellence Awards, Firebird Book Awards, International Book Awards, New York City Big Book Awards, and American Fiction Awards.
On the academic side, Dr. Leavy earned her Ph.D. in Sociology at Boston College in 2002. She was a tenured Associate Professor of Sociology at Stonehill College from 2002-2012 where she also served as Founding Director of the Gender Studies Program and the Chairperson of the Sociology & Criminology Department. Dr. Leavy previously taught at Boston College, Northeastern University, and Curry College. In 2012 Dr. Leavy left academia to focus her full-time efforts on her work as an author and public intellectual. Dr. Leavy recently served on the advisory board for the Arts and Humanities in Medicine Program at The University of Maine.
In addition to her own writing, Dr. Leavy is co-founder of Art/Research International: A Transdisciplinary Journal, and served as co-editor-in-chief for many years. She continues to serve on the editorial boards of numerous journals. Dr. Leavy is also widely recognized for her pioneering work creating innovative publishing opportunities for other scholars and artists, through the 10 book series for which she has served as creator and series editor over the course of her career for Oxford University Press, Guilford Press, and Brill/Sense. The Social Fictions series she created, for which she served as editor for 10 years, is the first and only academic book series to solely publish full-length literary works. The ground-breaking series received global attention, earned a national creativity award, and produced many award-winning and best-selling titles under Dr. Leavy’s tenure as editor and creative visionary. She also worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help authors retain more control over their work and better financial terms. In a move that had many publicly likening her to the Taylor Swift of book publishing, she used her considerable clout at Brill, a global publisher with a more than 300-year history, to secure substantially better terms for authors including but not limited to digital embargos, higher royalty rates, full royalty payments for previously unpaid bulk sales, and shared copyright ownership. She also negotiated a unique publishing agreement for herself, allowing her to license her work without giving up ownership. Her negotiations were game-changing in academic publishing and have influenced standard practices.
In 2021 she launched Paper Stars Press, her own publishing imprint, primarily to rerelease new versions of some of her most beloved books. Today, she spends most of her time as a novelist, publishing with She Writes Press.
Dr. Leavy has received numerous career awards. The New England Sociological Association named Dr. Leavy the 2010 New England Sociologist of the Year. Karen Bonofiglio Authors on Fire Interview

In 2020, my life as I knew it changed forever. Prior to this year, I had been my parent’s caregiver for nine years and helped them draw their last breaths. In 2019, my father passed at 95. One year later, my 90-year-old mother died, one day short of my father’s death date. They had lived beautiful and fruitful lives and were rejoined in death. They had been married for 72 years.
I had put my life on hold for nine years while taking care of my parents. Now, it was my time to live and thrive again. The time taking care of my parents had sucked my life energy from me, and now I could recuperate. I was married, and our kids were grown, but now I could focus on myself and my husband as these two aspects were put on the back burner. However, my seemingly vivacious, gregarious, and loving husband (nicknamed Bono) died three weeks later after my mother. I was taken to my knees in suffocating grief and had lost the three main pillars in my life. I wanted to die and join them; I didn’t want to live.
My husband and I experienced a love that many will never know. He was my third husband, and we met when I was 39. We were so deeply in love and devoted to each other. Our friends remarked on the love we had and how blessed and lucky we were. We both spoiled each other and now, my “rock” was gone.
I have always been a spiritual/metaphysical person and have seen psychics/mediums all my life. I also have those abilities. When Bono died, my spirituality was cracked wide open. I could now see him as an apparition/ghost, and he came to me and gave me messages through various means. He would appear to me, put thoughts in my head, visit me in my dreams, send me songs, speak to me, and more. I asked him, “Why did you die?” “Why did you leave me?” and was told, “For your growth,” which made me angry. This was our time together! I could grow with him! Little did I know how correct he was. In addition, my mother, father, aunt, uncle, and grandmother let their presence be known and also visited me in various ways. My friends’ deceased husbands have also used me as a conduit to give their grieving wives messages. One friend’s murdered daughter uses me to comfort her father.
I shared my story with my over 2000 friends on Facebook and started journaling. The journaling became a book. I was “told” it would be published and help many people; I would present a beacon of hope. With the pain, angst, and grief I was experiencing, I wanted to help as many people as I could. I found new friendships with grieving widows, and this slobbering mess of a human being rose from the ashes and recreated herself. I truly don’t recognize the person I have become; my core humanness is still there, but my expansion, compassion, psychic abilities, etc., increased tenfold. I founded a widow’s group in my area, and we all have grown through our sisterhood. People continually seek me out for guidance and comfort in dealing with death and impending loss. I have been thanked for sharing my story and vulnerability, and I have also afforded others the opportunity to feel safe in sharing their experiences with others. We are all in this together.
Since 2020, I wanted to die. Now, all I want to do is live; my mission is to help as many people as I can that experience deep grief. My book offers hope to people who have suffered a deep, significant loss and need messages, hope, and advice to help them emerge from the bondage of angst and grief. My book offers hopeful survival strategies to guide readers down the turbulent trail of grief and help them emerge into the sunshine.

S.P. Somtow Firebird Book Award Winner Author Interview

Born in Bangkok, Somtow grew up in Europe and was educated at Eton and Cambridge. His first career was in music and in the 1970s he acquired a reputation as a revolutionary composer, the first to combine Thai and Western instruments in radical new sonorities.
Conditions in the arts in the region at the time proved so traumatic for the young composer that he suffered a major burnout, emigrated to the United States, and reinvented himself as a novelist. His earliest novels were in the science fiction field but he soon began to cross into other genres. In his 1984 novel Vampire Junction, he injected a new literary inventiveness into the horror genre.
After becoming a Buddhist monk for a period in 2001, Somtow decided to refocus his attention on the country of his birth, founding Bangkok’s first international opera company and returning to music, where he again reinvented himself, this time as a neo-Asian neo-Romantic composer.
According to London’s Opera magazine, “in just five years, Somtow has made Bangkok into the operatic hub of Southeast Asia.”  Somtow’s current project, the Siam Synphonietta is a youth orchestra he founded five years ago, using a new educational method he pioneered and which is now among the most acclaimed youth orchestras world-wide.
