Then the scribe said to him, “Well said, Teacher. You have truly said, ‘He is one, and there is no other besides him.’ And ‘to love him with all your heart, and with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself,’ is worth more than any burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when Jesus saw with what great understanding he had spoken, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any question.

Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute, and when the demon had gone out, the man who was mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of demons.” Others, to test him, demanded a sign from heaven.

However, he knew what they were thinking, and he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself will collapse. If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand?

“For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. Now, if it is by Beelzebul that I cast out demons, by whom do your own children cast them out? Therefore, they will be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come to you.

“When a strong man is fully armed and guards his palace, his possessions are safe. But when someone who is stronger than he is attacks and overpowers him, he carries off all the weapons upon which the owner relied and distributes the plunder.

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

Nang lumabas na ang demonyo, nakapagsalita ang pipi kaya namangha ang mga tao. Ngunit ilan sa kanila ang nagsabi, “Nakapagpapalayas siya ng demonyo sa pamamagitan ni Beelzebul na pinuno ng mga demonyo.” Dahil nais siyang subukin ng iba, hinahanapan siya ng mga ito ng tanda mula sa langit. Ngunit dahil batid niya ang kanilang mga iniisip, sinabi niya sa kanila, “Bawat kahariang hindi nagkakaisa ay babagsak, at ang tahanang nag-aaway-away ay mawawasak. At kung kinakalaban ni Satanas ang kanyang sarili, paano makatatayo ang kanyang kaharian? Kaya sila ang magiging hukom ninyo. Ngunit kung ako ay nagpapalayas ng mga demonyo sa pamamagitan ng daliri ng Diyos, dumating na nga sa inyo ang paghahari ng Diyos. Kapag isang taong malakas at nasasandatahang mabuti ang nagbabantay sa kanyang bahay, ligtas ang kanyang mga ari-arian. Ngunit kung isang mas malakas sa kanya ang sumalakay at siya ay talunin, sasamsamin nito ang mga sandatang pinagtiwalaan niya at ipamamahagi ang mga ari-ariang nasamsam. Ang wala sa panig ko ay kalaban ko, at ang hindi ko kasamang nagtitipon ay magkakawatak-watak.”

At that time, some people who were present told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices. He asked them, “Do you think that because the Galileans suffered in this way they were worse sinners than all other Galileans? No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower fell on them at Siloam—do you think that they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? No, I tell you—but unless you repent, you will all perish as they did.”

 Then he told them this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, but whenever he came looking for fruit on it, he found none. Therefore, he said to his vinedresser, ‘For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and have never found any. Cut it down! Why should it continue to use up the soil?’ But the vinedresser replied, ‘Sir, let it alone for one more year while I dig around it and fertilize it. Perhaps it will bear fruit next year. If so, well and good. If not, then you can cut it down.’ ”

So the father divided the property between them. After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongingsand set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation. When he had freely spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he found himself in dire need. Nagbulung-bulungan ang mga Pariseo at ang mga eskriba. Ang sabi nila: “Ang taong ito’y nakikisalamuha sa mga makasalanan at nakikisalo sa kanila.” Kaya’t sinabi sa kanila ni Hesus ang talinghagang ito:“Isang tao ang may dalawang anak na lalaki. Ang wika ng bunso, ‘Ama, ibigay na po ninyo sa akin ang mamanahin ko.’ At binahagi sa kanila ng ama ang kanyang ari-arian. Pagkalipas ng ilang araw, ipinagbili ng bunso ang kanyang ari-arian at nagtungo sa malayong lupain, taglay ang buo niyang kayamanan, at doo’y nilustay na lahat sa di wastong pamumuhay. Babalik ako sa kanya, at sasabihin ko, “Ama, nagkasala po ako sa Diyos at sa inyo. Hindi na po ako karapat-dapat na tawagin ninyong anak; ibilang na lamang ninyo akong isa sa inyong mga alila.”, At tumindig siya at pumaroon sa kanyang ama.“Malayo pa’y natanawan na siya ng ama at ito’y labis na nahabag sa kanya, kaya’t patakbo siyang sinalubong, niyakap, at hinagkan. Sinabi ng anak, ‘Ama, nagkasala po ako sa Diyos at sa inyo. Hindi na po ako karapat-dapat na tawagin ninyong anak.’ Ngunit tinawag ng ama ang kanyang mga alila, ‘Madali! Dalhin ninyo rito ang pinakamahusay na damit at isuot sa kanya. Suutan siya ng singsing at panyapak. Kunin ang pinatabang guya at patayain; kumain tayo at magsaya! Sapagkat namatay na ang anak kong ito; ngunit muling nabuhay; nawala, ngunit nasumpungan.’ At sila’y nagsaya.“Nasa bukid noon ang anak na panganay. Umuwi siya, at nang malapit na sa bahay ay narinig niya ang tugtugan at sayawan. Tinawag niya ang isa sa mga alila at tinanong: ‘Bakit? May ano sa atin?’ ‘Dumating po ang inyong kapatid!’ tugon ng alila. ‘Ipinapatay ng inyong ama ang pinatabang guya, sapagkat nagbalik siyang buhay at walang sakit.’ Nagalit ang panganay at ayaw itong pumasok sa bahay. Kaya’t lumabas ang kanyang ama at inamu-amo siya. Ngunit sinabi nito, ‘Pinaglingkuran ko po kayo sa loob ng maraming taon, at kailanma’y hindi ko kayo sinuway. BIYERNES, MARSO 21, 2025Biyernes sa Ikalawang Linggo ng Apatnapung Araw na Paghahanda para sa Pasko ng Pagkabuhay MABUTING BALITA: MATEO 21:33-43, 45-46"Dinggin ninyo ang isa pang talinghaga: May isang taong pinuno ng sambahayan, na nagtanim ng ubas sa kanyang bukirin, at binakuran niya ang palibot nito. Naglagay siya roon ng isang pisaan ng ubas at nagtayo ng isang toreng bantayan. Pinaupahan niya ang ubasan sa mga magsasaka at siya'y nangibang-bayan. Nang malapit na ang panahon ng pamimitas ng bunga, pinapunta niya ang kanyang mga alipin sa mga magsasaka upang kumuha ng mga bunga para sa kanya. Subalit kinuha ng mga magsasaka ang kanyang mga alipin. Binugbog nila ang isa, pinatay ang iba, at pinagbabato ang isa pa. Muli siyang nagpadala ng iba pang mga alipin na mas marami pa sa nauna; subalit ganoon din ang ginawa nila sa kanila. Sa kahuli-hulihan ay pinapunta niya sa kanila ang kanyang anak na lalaki. Wika niya, ‘Igagalang nila ang aking anak.’ Subalit nang makita ng mga magsasaka ang anak, sinabi nila sa isa't isa, ‘Ito ang tagapagmana. Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary

GOSPEL OF THE DAY: MATTHEW 1: 16, 18-21, 24a

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, who gave birth to Jesus who is called the Christ.

The birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came to live together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph was a just man and did not wish to expose her to the ordeal of public disgrace; therefore, he resolved to divorce her quietly.

After he had decided to follow this course of action, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary into your home as your wife. For this child has been conceived in her womb through the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you shall name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Si Jacob ang ama ni Jose, na asawa ni Maria, na siyang nagsilang kay Jesus, na tinatawag na Cristo. Ganito ang pangyayari sa pagsilang ni Jesu-Cristo. Nang si Maria na kanyang ina ay ipinagkasundong ikasal kay Jose, bago sila nagsama, si Maria ay natagpuang nagdadalang-tao sa pamamagitan ng Banal na Espiritu. Sapagkat si Jose ay isang mabuting tao at hindi niya nais na malagay sa kahihiyan si Maria, siya'y nagpasya na hiwalayan na lamang ito nang lihim. Subalit habang pinag-iisipan niya ang mga bagay na ito, nagpakita sa kanya sa panaginip ang isang anghel ng Panginoon na nagsasabi, “Jose, anak ni David, huwag kang mangambang pakasalan si Maria, sapagkat ang nasa sinapupunan niya ay mula sa Banal na Espiritu. Magsisilang siya ng isang lalaki at ang ipapangalan mo sa kanya ay Jesus, sapagkat ililigtas niya ang kanyang sambayanan mula sa kanilang mga kasalanan.”
