#22 - Adam Bratton & Human Powered Movement

🚨Episode 22: Adam Bratton🚨

Recently, I’ve been thinking about how cool it would be to run or workout with a guest before recording a podcast episode. Sure enough, that’s exactly what Adam suggested when we discussed doing a podcast together. I highly recommend it and plan to do the same thing going forward!

Today’s guest is the founder of Human Powered Movement.

🧐What is Human Powered Movement?

It is a culmination of MANY things, which Adam and I discuss.  Its mission: to inspire more activity in people’s lives.

Adam is the race director for their events which includes bike and running races - including MOVE, a bike and running race which is happening THIS WEEKEND, see website link below for details 🏁

It was an honor to hang out with Adam and talk all things HPM, running, and adventures - all while enjoying some of his home-brewed beer. He’s built a great company that wants to help people, the community, and the planet in every possible way.

I can’t wait to run in my first HPM event this year and join in on the fun!

Also, check out their Strava Club and YouTube channel!

Enjoy ✌🏼

#18 - OBX, Kentucky Derby, and Fall Marathon Reveal

EPISODE 18

On deck:

  • OBX Half Marathon Recap
  • Kentucky Derby Half Marathon race/weekend recap
  • Upcoming Time Laps 24HR Race Preview
  • Fall Marathon Reveal 👀

OBX

I shocked myself by running the last mile under a 7 pace and was pumped how I made adjustments mid-race to achieve my goal. Sometimes solving the problem along the way can be more fun than achieving the goal. When you do both, it makes for a great weekend and leaves you hungrier for more!

Kentucky Derby Half

Chris achieved the 30 miles before turning age 30 with Lucas and I running alongside him for the first 7.5 miles. Going into the race, I wasn’t sure how my legs would hold up with the pace Chris wanted to run but they got the job done baby. It ended up being my second fastest half! This made me even more confident about my current fitness level and even more jazzed for my upcoming fall marathon.

Episode is short and sweet. Enjoy ✌🏼

It was a pleasure to meet and hang out with him. In this podcast, he and I cover:

#12 - Phil Mintac: Conquering the Toughest Races

EPISODE 12

It’s impossible to not be motivated after listening to @mintac talk about racing.  It was an honor to have him on the podcast and to hear his viewpoint on training, fueling, and how to approach a race.

It’s inevitable that something will go wrong during a 100 mile race.  After speaking with him, it’s obvious that he has the attitude to find solutions instead of excuses.

As Phil says, “Badwater just isn’t ready for me yet” 🔥

And it seems like his races are getting longer each year 👀 tune in to hear his plans for 2024!

#10 - Chris Roberts: Creating Positive Changes

Episode 10 - Chris Roberts!

This episode focuses on mental health and it’s a bonus that our guest has a running history as well.

Chris is the analogy king. He does a fantastic job of breaking down lessons he’s learned on the track and as a clinical mental health counselor.

When he speaks, you can hear his passion for helping others and his gratefulness for his clients and former students.

The mind-body connection is fascinating and it’s one of many topics we cover. Speaking with Chris was just as informative as it was entertaining.

He and I discuss races and challenges we want to tackle in the near future, why some sports have become increasingly popular over the last few years, and much more.

Running a marathon is hard enough. Running a marathon in all 50 states is next level! Lucas Prillaman has 10 down and 40 to go. Listening to him speak about running and seeing his Race Log excel document already has me pumped up for my next race.

Time flew by recording this episode. It’s hard to beat a conversation with someone who’s so passionate about something.

I’ve learned a lot from Lucas and will continue to look to him for advice in the future.

#6 - David Kocher: Mastering the Most Mental Sport

Episode 6 with David Kocher!

David is entering his seventh year as a professional golfer and currently plays on the Korn Ferry Tour.

He shot a career best round of 59 earlier this year and takes us through the mindset he had during the round and the minor changes he made just weeks before. As technical as the game of golf is, it is twice as mentally demanding. It was a treat listening to how he approaches things mentally, on and off the course.

His attention to detail is what sets him apart from the competition and I can tell he has big things in store for the upcoming year.

I could go on and on, but I'll leave the rest for the podcast.

Enjoy ✌️

#3 - Ryan Horgan: Keep Running Simple and Eat PB & Turkey Sandwiches

Episode 3 featuring Ryan Horgan! As a former Division 1 Track & Field and Cross Country at Wake Forest University, Ryan shares the running philosophy that his running coach instilled in him.

Learn how he built-up and managed running 100 mile weeks, what the different types of runners are, and how training can differ based on the type of runner you are.

Ryan is a good friend and a great person to learn from. He does everything with a passion and doesn’t let any detail go unnoticed.

I had a blast recording this and I’m excited to implement what I learned from Ryan into my training. Our running conversation continued after we stopped recording and we’re already cooking up topics for his future return.

Enjoy ✌🏼🏃
