Why I'm Loving the Wheel Of Awareness Practice by Dr. Dan Siegel

The Wheel of Awareness practice was created by Dr. Dan Siegel to increase integration in the brain. In the last 10 days I decided to do this practice as part of a new morning routine I'm testing to see if I can prevent some of the symptoms from seasonal depression, now the days are getting shorter and we're heading into winter here in Montreal. I'm happy to report that the benefits of this guided visualization GREATLY outweigh the costs of having to wake up earlier and sit down for 30 minutes with my mind and body. 3 Lessons From Not Podcasting In 3 Months

After a few months of taking things easy and going quiet, I’m happy to share a new podcast episode where I talk all about the three lessons from going quiet for a few months.

In this episode, I share my experiences with:

  • When slowing down seems harder than quitting (and my hypothesis of why that is)
  • What I learned from sitting with the shame of “not producing enough”.
  • What to do if your “cognitive tools” (like journaling or repeating affirmations) aren’t working as well as they have in the past
  • Why I have been feeling ambivalent towards the world of personal development in general

I also share two exciting events that I’m participating on this week. For all the information and show notes, visit: https://soniaortiz.com/38

On Being Multipassionate

How do you get stuff done when you’re a multi-passionate? If your career doesn’t fit a neat box and you’ve been wanting to start a side project for years, chances are you’re a multipassionate human. Multipassionates often get a bad rap. We are told we’re “jacks of all trades, masters of none”, or that we’re flakey, or that we can’t focus. The good news is: all of these are optional thoughts that YOU don’t have to buy and believe, if they don’t serve you. The bad news is: I’d be lying if I told you that managing multiple businesses is easy breezy. It’s not.

In this episode I share the three skills to cultivate if you want to have multiple businesses related to your passion, how to stop thinking you *should* be able to focus on just one thing when it doesn’t serve you and what compromises you need to make when you’re multipassionate. Conditional Mind Reading

Do you constantly try to understand why people act the way they act? While having empathy for fellow humans is amazing, this curiosity can turn into a relentless need to read other people’s minds and intentions, which becomes exhausting. In this episode I introduce a concept called “conditional mind reading” and why it’s important to notice where in your personal life and work life you’re engaging in these types of activities, so you can better understand what gives you anxiety and how to stop it. The Value of Belonging

Do you ever feel like you don’t fit in anywhere you go? As a 1.5 generation immigrant, this sense of always living in between borders, and cultures, and languages is one that has defined my life and has created a lot of feelings of "not belonging" throughout my life. In this episode I share one personal story from a period of my life where I felt the most out of place and like I didn't belong, some of the lessons learned, and how to manage the fear caused by not belonging. In this juicy episode she shares her experience being the daughter of immigrants in the U.S, and why seeing her mom die with so many unfulfilled dreams inspired her to help others start living the life they want NOW instead of waiting.
