Če ste mislili, da je življenje v gozdu lahka stvar, to za divjega prašiča ne velja. Med raznašanjem semen, iskanjem hrane z ritjem po zemlji in skrbjo za svoje mladiče nima prav nobenega časa za počitek. Divji prašič je zelo podoben domačemu prašiču. Na vrhu glave ima trikotne uhlje in na koncu kratkih nog črne parklje. Je daljši od enega metra. Iz gobca mu štrlita podaljšana podočnika ali čekana. Glava stožčaste oblike ima koničast rilec, s katerim lahko rije po tleh in ga uporablja kot lopato. Te živali so večino časa dejavne ponoči. Takrat je varneje in mirneje kot podnevi. Prehodijo ozemlje, ki lahko meri več deset kvadratnih kilometrov, samo da bi našle vodo in hrano ali pa se preprosto oddaljile od plenilcev. To je toliko, kot če bi vsak dan prečkale majhno mesto.
