創辦人星雲大師為「香海」,定義為「香雲海會,即書香雲集,智慧如海之意。香海文化成立於西元1997年8月,出版佛教相關書籍,以星雲大師的「人間佛教」為經;以「三好:說好話、做好事、存好心」為緯,經緯交集如慈悲與智慧兩軸,從佛教經典延伸至文學、哲思、護生、心靈、生死探索、蔬食料理、養生保健等系列作品。
