Beyond the Desk: Living with Intention

What happens when you buy your first property at 19, move across the world, and build a portfolio that’s aligned with your lifestyle, not someone else’s idea of success?
In this episode of Where Should I Invest, Sarah and Kelly sit down with Amy Brooke, a CPA-turned-full-time investor who left corporate life to pursue real estate full-time with her husband Nigel. Amy shares the real story behind their success, including the mistakes, mindset shifts, and strategy pivots that helped her scale without losing sight of what matters most.

We talk about how she navigated over-leveraging, burnout, and the pressure to do “what everyone else is doing,” and instead focused on building a business that supports her long-term vision, including spending part of the year living in Spain.

If you’re juggling career transitions, market uncertainty, or just wondering what’s next in your investing journey, Amy’s story is packed with relatable lessons and grounded inspiration.

What You’ll Learn:

* How Amy bought her first home at 19 and continued building after moving to Canada
* What she learned from scaling too fast and the cost of over-leveraging
* The importance of defining your own success, especially when leaving corporate
* How BRRRRs, conversions, flips, and even Airbnb shaped her investment strategy
* Why property management experience changed her perspective as an owner
* What lifestyle-aligned investing looks like and how it’s fueling her plan to live part-time in Spain
* The realities of working with your partner and building businesses together
* How she’s helping other investors by sharing what really works (and what doesn’t)

Amy Brooke is a CPA and real estate investor who began her journey at 19 in the UK and has since built a thriving multifamily portfolio across Ontario with her husband, Nigel. Together, they’ve explored a wide range of investment strategies from BRRRRs and flips to short-term rentals, industrial conversions, and ground-up development. After leaving behind her corporate finance career, Amy leaned fully into real estate and entrepreneurship, co-founding a growing property management company and building a business that aligns with her lifestyle.

Amy’s mission is to make real estate relatable, accessible, and transparent, especially for women and couples navigating similar transitions. She’s passionate about helping others learn from her mistakes, build smarter portfolios, and create a life that actually feels like freedom.

After investing in Ontario multifamily properties, Fernando pivoted into U.S. self-storage and international investments, specifically in Portugal, where he’s building out boutique hotel assets.
With a background in corporate leadership and over 25 years in business, Fernando brings a grounded, thoughtful, and systems-driven approach to both investing and coaching.

His current mission? To help other entrepreneurs simplify their lives, focus on what matters most, and use real estate as a tool, not a trap.

This episode is a reminder that freedom doesn’t have to be far away; it just takes clarity, strategy, and a willingness to think differently.

Navigating Life’s Challenges: Lessons in Faith, Service, and Personal Growth

In this episode of the podcast, I had the pleasure of welcoming Eaton Grant, a multifaceted entrepreneur, pastor, and motivational speaker. Eaton’s journey is a remarkable blend of faith, business acumen, and a deep commitment to helping others, making for an inspiring conversation.
We kicked off the episode by discussing Eaton’s diverse background, which includes extensive experience in public speaking and a strong entrepreneurial spirit that dates back to his childhood. He shared how he transitioned from a career in sales to planting a church 12 years ago, all while maintaining a bi-vocational lifestyle to support his family.
Eaton recently authored a book titled “Create a Better You: How to Take Control of Your Life Now,” which emerged from a seminar he organized years ago. He explained the process of writing the book, including a month-long fast from television that allowed him to focus and complete it. The book aims to empower readers to take control of their lives, especially during challenging times.
As we delved deeper, Eaton opened up about his personal experiences with adversity, including the unexpected loss of his father just days before his wedding, the challenges of raising children with special needs, and his wife’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis. His vulnerability in sharing these experiences highlighted the importance of resilience and perspective in overcoming life’s obstacles.
Eaton emphasized the significance of serving others as a way to maintain positivity, stating that focusing on helping people can provide strength during difficult times. He also shared valuable insights on how to get “unstuck” in life, outlining four key steps: awareness, belief, decision-making, and taking action. These principles are particularly relevant in today’s uncertain economic climate, where many feel paralyzed by indecision.
Throughout the episode, Eaton’s infectious energy and optimism shone through, reminding listeners that they are enough and encouraging them to embrace their authentic selves. He also discussed his upcoming projects, including two new books focused on overcoming adversity and achieving results.

As we wrapped up our conversation, Eaton shared his contact information and encouraged listeners to connect with him through his website and social media platforms. His final message resonated deeply: “Who you are and what you are is enough.” This episode is a testament to the power of resilience, service, and the belief that we can all create a better version of ourselves.

Exploring Investment Strategies: From Real Estate to Stock Options and Bitcoin

In this episode of our podcast, I had the pleasure of welcoming back Cam McCarroll, a seasoned real estate investor and entrepreneur, to discuss his journey through various investment strategies, including real estate, stock options, and Bitcoin.

We kicked off the conversation with a light-hearted exchange about my recent trip to Costa Rica, a place Cam has been visiting since 1999. He shared his insights on how the country has evolved over the years, touching on both the positive changes and some concerning security issues that have emerged. While we initially veered into the beauty of Costa Rica, we quickly pivoted to the main topic of the episode: diversifying investment strategies in light of the current economic climate.

Cam shared his extensive background in real estate, which he has been involved in since 2009. He discussed the challenges investors face today, particularly with rising interest rates affecting cash flow from rental properties. This led us to explore alternative investment avenues, particularly stock options, which Cam was introduced to in 2018. He explained how this strategy has transformed his approach to investing, allowing him to generate significant cash flow with minimal time commitment.

Throughout our discussion, Cam emphasized the importance of having a diversified portfolio. He described his three pillars of investing: real estate for long-term equity appreciation, stock options for cash flow, and Bitcoin for long-term growth and security. We delved into the mechanics of stock options trading, where Cam explained how he uses this strategy to create a protective layer of income while investing in top companies like Amazon and Nvidia. He also highlighted the potential returns, which can range from 1% to 3% per month, translating to an annual return of 12% to 42%.

As we explored the world of Bitcoin, Cam provided compelling insights into its historical performance and future potential. He stressed the importance of a long-term perspective when investing in Bitcoin, citing its impressive compound annual growth rate over various four-year periods.

We wrapped up the episode by discussing practical steps for those interested in getting started with options trading and Bitcoin. Cam shared resources for learning more about these strategies, including his website, 30minutestockstrategy.com, where listeners can find a masterclass on options trading.

This episode is packed with valuable information for anyone looking to diversify their investment portfolio and navigate the complexities of today’s financial landscape. Whether you’re a seasoned investor or just starting out, Cam’s insights and strategies offer a fresh perspective on building wealth and achieving financial freedom.
