Relationship Roles

In this episode, we delve into the intricate dance of relationship roles and their impact on our health and wellbeing. WE explore the ways in which the roles we play can nurture or inhibit not only our physical but also emotional and mental health. Take a listen in as we share stories, expert insights and perhaps some guidance on ways to harmonize our roles in a way that makes room for us to be healthy and flourish.

Relationship roles play a crucial role in shaping our lives across different domains, including family, spouse, and work. Within the family unit, roles determine responsibilities, from caregiving to financial support, impacting the well-being of all members. In a spousal relationship, roles evolve, influencing communication and emotional support. Equitable roles foster mutual growth and happiness. At work, roles define tasks, hierarchy, and collaboration. A balanced allocation of roles enhances workplace efficiency and job satisfaction. In all three spheres, open dialogue, adaptability, and shared responsibilities are key to healthy relationships, ensuring that each role contributes positively to overall health and harmony.

Obesity and Public Health

Obesity and public health necessary discussion. Obesity is a global epidemic that poses a substantial threat to public health. Over the past few decades, its prevalence has skyrocketed, affecting people of all backgrounds. Our latest episode explores factors relating to obesity and why it necessitates immediate attention.

The influence of obesity on public health is intricate and extensive. It notably elevates the likelihood of chronic illnesses, reduces life expectancy, and places a substantial financial strain on healthcare systems due to escalating expenses. Furthermore, beyond the healthcare sphere, obesity has economic consequences, resulting in diminished workplace efficiency and increased rates of absenteeism.

Addressing the obesity epidemic requires a comprehensive approach. Encouraging healthier lifestyles, creating environments that facilitate healthy choices, implementing policy interventions like sugar taxes, and raising awareness about the consequences of obesity are vital steps.

In conclusion, obesity's toll on public health is undeniable, but collective action can mitigate its effects. By focusing on prevention, supportive environments, and evidence-based policies, we can pave the way for a healthier future.

Workplace Toxicity

Workplace toxicity refers to an unhealthy work environment characterized by negative behaviors, such as harassment, bullying, discrimination, and excessive pressure. It has a significant impact on stress, mental health, and overall well-being of employees.

Toxic workplaces create high levels of stress due to constant conflict, unfair treatment, and a lack of support or recognition. This chronic stress can lead to various physical and psychological health problems, including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and burnout. Your body remains in perpetual fight or flight mode and cortisol levels will increase.

How Workplace Toxicity Manifests

Employees subjected to workplace toxicity often experience decreased job satisfaction, reduced productivity, and increased absenteeism. The constant exposure to negative behaviors can erode their self-esteem and confidence, leading to decreased motivation and engagement in their work. SEE REST OF THIS ARTICLE IN MY BLOG

Fake Foods

On this strong's (week's) podcast we discuss "Fake Foods" and the increasingly pervasive availability of "food" products not made from natural plants or animals. Yes, fake food (also known as food fraud) is an actual phenomenon on its own, however we are also including synthetic/synthesized foods as part of our discussion. Fake food is the intentional misrepresentation of food products for economic gain. Synthetic food, is food that is grown or produced using biotechnology and tissue engineering techniques in a laboratory setting. These practices may seem harmless, however they can have serious implications for public health.

Knowing agricultural jargon is necessary for several reasons, particularly in the context of synthetic foods. Here are some ways to address this:

* Understanding product labels: terms like "cell-cultured" or "fermentation-derived" may be used to describe the process used to produce the food.

* Look for labels and certifications: such as the USDA organic or Non-GMO Project Verified labels, which can help consumers identify products.

* Check the ingredients list: Look at the ingredients list to understand what they are made of and how they were produced.

By becoming more informed about current language in agriculture, consumers can make more informed choices about the food they eat. They can also help ensure that the products they purchase are safe, sustainable, and aligned with their values.

Preparedness & Public Health

In the second episode of season 3, we discuss preparedness and public health. Do you know the plan for the city in which you live? More importantly, do you have your own personal emergency plan for yourself or your family. Emergency preparedness is essential in reducing the negative impact of natural disasters on individuals and communities. It is actions that involves planning, training, and resources to effectively respond to emergencies and mitigate their impact. In these recent times where climate change creates more and more instances of extreme weather conditions, preparedness and pubic health are inextricably linked. We owe it to ourselves to make sure that we have contingencies in place that ensure our personal safety as well as as that of our families.

Black Hair "Care"...Where? (Season 3, Ep. 36)

Black Hair "Care"...Where? Perms, cancer and lawsuits, oh my! There are various definition of the word "care", here is one: (1) serious attention or consideration applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk. If the products utilized cause more harm than good, should it be referred to as black hair "care"? Research shows us that a good amount of the beauty products peddled to melanin dominant communities are linked with risk of early puberty, fibroids, and cancer. In this case, care would be inaccurate. If we can't pronounce some of the ingredients then whey do we continue to purchase and use them? In the first episode of the our 3rd season we have an open and honest conversation about all sides of this conversation, from injustices to ignorance. Oh, and somehow we started talking about cows again.
