This week on TRACK! We are delighted to be joined by marathon runner and newly announced England athlete for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July; George Schwiening. George ran her marathon PB of almost 4 minutes clocking a 2.31.25 in Manchester during which she secured third place and both the European and Commonwealth Games qualifying time. George runs for Cambridge Runners, and has a background in duathlon in which she has won a World Junior Championship (2013), European U23 Championship (2014) and was the bronze medalist at senior level in 2018, at the World Championship in Fyn, Denmark. George is, for now, focused on marathon running and will hit the streets of Birmingham in an England vest in July so we are delighted that she has agreed to chat to us here at TRACK!
This week on TRACK! We are delighted to be joined by the recently announced GB selected marathon runner - Andrew Heyes. Andrew made his marathon debut at Manchester 3 weeks ago; running 2.13.53, finishing in 5th place subsequently securing his place for the GB team for the upcoming European championships in Munich in August. Andrew has been coached by GB marathon Mara Yamauchi since 2021, runs for Hallamshire, is part of UK Anti-Doping's Athletes Commission and has recently completed his PhD in the psycho-social aspects of athletic doping. Andrew won the British indoor 3,000m champs in 2018 whilst being coached by Steve Vernon, spent time in the College system in the states at Tulsa University and has a wealth of experience in the sport - so we are delighted he has agreed to chat to us here at TRACK!

Naomi ran her marathon PB of 2.30.54 in Manchester last week during which she secured second place and both the European and Commonwealth Games qualifying time. Naomi runs for Reading AC, recently won Wokingham Half Marathon in her build up to Manchester and earlier this year represented England for the first time running the Granollers Half Marathon so we are delighted that she has agreed to chat to us here at TRACK!

Becky will once again be tackling the marathon distance in a couple of weeks at Manchester marathon to try and better her PB of 2.34. We are speaking to Becky, who runs for City of Hull, but who is based at St Mary’s University, about a week after she ran a Half Marathon at Wokingham in a time of 73.51 for a 2nd placed finish and discuss all things racing, training, women's British marathon running and more.

Alex is a student at Loughborough University and will be travelling to the World University Games later this year. With PBs of 4.16 for 1,500m and 9.24 for 3,000m Alex continues to go from strength to strength. WIll is also a graduate of Harvard, is currently studying at Birmingham University, and last week won the mens individual and team BUCS XC championships.

This week on TRACK! We are delighted to be joined by a man of many talents; Dan Robinson. Dan is an accomplished runner, with personal bests including sub 9 minutes for 3km, a 31.18 10km, a 69 minute half marathon, and a sub-2.30 marathon. Dan is also a coach with a number of years experience with some high achieving athletes. Alongside this, Dan has a full-time position at the University of Wolverhampton within the Sport & Exercise Science department, in which he has a particular interest in sports psychology, with a research profile centred on, amongst other topics, emotional regulation during endurance performance and psychological strategies to aid performance. Despite all of this however, the main focus of our chat today is on a non-for -profit cafe and organisation called the Oregano Project - a project designed to provide employment opportunities and support for refugee runners and locals struggling to hold down positions that Dan is at the heart of alongside Lucie Tait-Harris, an accomplished runner in her own right

Despite being relatively inexperienced at the marathon distance Rose, who runs for Clapham Chasers and is coached by Phillip Kissi, has shone this year over the 26.2 mile distance culminating with a PB of 2.29.45 at the most recent London marathon in October. This week on TRACK! We are delighted to be joined by a man who has just ran a marathon PB of 2.21.36 at the recent London marathon, a time good enough to secure him 7th place of the 40,000 mass runners and to win the V40 Abbots World Championship prize, Karl Welborn.
Karl has impressive PBs across a range of distances including a 67.54 HM at this year's Village Bakery Half Marathon and 14.47 for 5km at this year's Mid Cheshire 5km highlighting Karl’s continued progression in the sport having spent his youth playing elite level basketball.
Alongside his impressive running Karl works as an Occupational Therapist, a job in which he works with individuals recovering from serious conditions and physical injuries. Karl also coaches athletes and is the proud founder of the training group Team Marathon Road, a selection of runners chasing their own goals and PBs in the sport - so we’re delighted Karl has joined us here at TRACK!

This week on TRACK! we have an interview with Scottish 1500m runner Erin Wallace. Erin has had a fantastic year, winning a 1500m bronze medal at the European U23 Championships after a silver at the British Championships. Along with her championship success, this season Erin has run a new PB of 4.07.46. Erin is part of a very successful crop of Scottish middle distance runners and is coached by Andy Young, along with Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie. George sat down with Erin last month to discuss her season, her training and her plans for 2022.

Issy won gold in Estonia earlier this month as well as winning double gold at the European U20 championships in 2019 in Sweden. Issy has had a hugely successful year in 2021 which has included performances at the European U23 championships, the European indoor championships, the British championships and running a PB of 2.01 in Marseille. Issy is a part of the Birmingham University talent hub and has been coached by Luke Gunn since 2018. Issy has had a hugely impressive 2021 and continues to go from strength to strength so we’re delighted she has agreed to talk all things running with us here at TRACK!
