Dredging in Miami

Dredging is something that is rarely talked about but can have a huge effect on the environment. It is a common practice in South Florida, for the purpose of renourishing beaches in an effort to keep the tourism economy strong. Currently, there is a dredging project that will take sand from the Haulover Sandbar in order to renourish Bal Harbour Beach, which led me and my co-host, Cam Dobbs, to look further into the history of dredging in South Florida. Take a listen to hear about the pros, cons, and how you can make an effort in helping the environment yourself.

Turkey Point Nuclear Plant in Homestead, FL recently extended its license to operate and has found itself at the center of the debate. Environmental organizations warn of the implications the extension may have on both the people and wildlife in South Florida. With outdated operating systems and climate change taking effect, Turkey Point could be headed for disaster.
