Anastasia’s Week

  1. Read all about the upcoming assassination of William McKinley in Kate Rhoades’s comic Killing the President
  2. Got fitted for some proper clothing for the era and got her hair done in the popular Gibson Girl style
  3. Participated in the very popular 19th century bicycle trend
  4. Went to see a speech by activist Emma Goldman and participated in the suffragist and anarchist meetings

Gabe’s Week

  1. 2015 Gabe was visiting his family in New Mexico this week, along with their newly adopted pup Louie. His parents cooked a lot of different food, and he also took a blurry picture of a funny bumper sticker
  2. Listened to an episode of his old podcast Trends With Benefits with Anastasia as the guest talking about going to a One Direction concert. Felt nostalgic for good times with good friends
  3. Watched an episode of The Good Wife with Christopher McDonald from Happy Gilmore as the judge
  4. Tried to ignore the US Presidential primaries
  5. Couldn’t celebrate any birthdays because a baby born this year is eight years old in 2023. But mourned the passing of Jackie Collins, Yogi Berra, Wes Craven, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Leonard Nimoy, Christopher Lee, Scott Weiland and Robert Loggia.

Anastasia’s Week

  1. Didn’t go to see a movie cause they all stunk
  2. Watched the battle between Drake’s Hotline Bling and The Weeknd’s The Hills on the digital charts
  3. Got some 2015 fashions including a big fluffy keychain for her Coach purse
  4. Couldn’t enjoy Halloween, but found an epic photo of when she went as the Terminator for Halloween in 2015
  5. Stood on a corner holding a doomsday sign

  2. Went to see a lot of movies, including Cleopatra (comin atcha), Irma la Douce and The Great Escape
  3. Went to Newcastle upon Tyne to see The Beatles perform on a BBC radio show called Pop Go The Beatles
  4. Then hung out with The Beatles, became best friends with Brian Epstein and made out with George Harrison

Gabe’s Week

  1. Watched musical performances on television, including Skeeter Davis’s The End of the World, Jan and Dean’s Surf City, and Stevie Wonder, age 16, performing Fingertips on the Ed Sullivan Show
  2. Tried Froot Loops, which just came out, and admired the box art
  3. Heard JFK give his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech
  4. Sent some mail without a ZIP code
  5. Baby boomers bein born! Greg Kinnear, Helen Hunt, Lisa Kudrow, Whitney Houston, Quentin Tarantino, Mike Myers, Michael Jordan, Dave Foley, Marc Maron, Label the Cable Guy, Rob Schneider and Ming-na Wen

  3. Bought a brand new ukulele and played along to some 1989 tunes
  4. Followed the Iran-Contra trials, as Oliver North pleads guilty, but will go on to serve no prison time
  5. Celebrated the births of Anton Yelchin, Justine Lupe, Maya Moore and McLovin, and mourned the passing of Lucille Ball

Anastasia’s Week

  1. Went to the mall and got an outfit like Rosie Perez at the beginning of Do the Right Thing (1989), and her hair done like DJ Tanner
  2. Listened to Madonna, Debbie Gibson, Paula Abdul and Fine Young Cannibals at Sam Goody. Got an Orange Julius and an Auntie Anne’s
  3. Went to see *Loverboy* (1989) starring Patrick Dempsey, Carrie Fisher and Kirstie Alley at the United Artists cinema at the mall
  4. Went to see New Order live at the Santa Barbara Bowl
  5. Watched tv, including this week’s episode of Jake and the Fatman

Gabe’s Week

  1. Found contemporaneous photos of himself: with his friend Mike, smoking cigs, behind the counter at the movie theatre
  2. Reminisced about the beautiful old movie theatre he worked at, Laemmle’s Fairfax Theatre in Los Angeles, and his experience working at the premiere of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room
  3. Went to one of his old, soon-to-be-shuttered hangouts, Hollywood Star Lanes, as seen in The Big Lebowski
  4. Played some Snake II on an old Nokia, and saw 28 Days Later on the big screen
  5. Observed birthdays of Jojo Siwa, Shaedon Sharpe, Nikola Jovic, Quvenzhané Wallis, and death days of Gregory Peck, Barry White, Katharine Hepburn and Bob Hope

Anastasia’s Week

  1. Took the Concorde to Olde London Town before it makes its last flight in November. Got some early 2000s fashions at TopShop
  2. Caught Federer vs Philippoussis, had a Pimm’s Cup, and caught a glimpse of new couple Kate and William on the last day of Wimbledon
  3. Declined to attend a film because nothing looked good at the UK box office
  4. Watched Mastermind on UK television, or “telly”, and listened to Beyonce’s Dangerously in Love album
  5. Revisited her study abroad in Leeds, did some snogging, and saw comedy from young Alex Horne and Flight of the Conchords

  3. Saw some Pollocks and Mondrians at the Recent Acquisitions exhibit at MOMA
  4. Heard the old radio show Dragnet by cop-lover (and Fatima cigarettes shill) Jack Webb
  5. Followed news of Paul Robeson (heard here singing to Scottish miners) and Jackie Robinson appearing before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC)
  6. Went to Googie’s Coffee Shop and learned about Googie architecture
  7. Saw a bunch of movies including The Heiress with Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift

Gabe’s Week

  1. Went to the original cast production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, directed by Elia Kazan and starring Lee J. Cobb
  2. Watched some early TV on an RCA Victor television, including Captain Video and His Video Rangers presented by Post Raisin Bran
  3. Got an original Sara Lee classic cheesecake
  4. Celebrated the birth of Meryl Streep (6/22), Elizabeth Warren (6/22) and Lionel Richie (6/20)
