Today's episode details the first six months of staying at a (temporarily shut down) retreat center, in a small cabin surrounded by 106 acres of forest. I quickly determined that there is a creator to our existence, and got my hands in the dirt as a gardener and landscaper for the first time. Navigating extreme isolation by exploring the forest, meeting and befriending the founder of the retreat center, and working with a gardener full of ancient wisdom. I started my own podcast, began to talk about the nature of reality and our place in it, and continued an internal search for more clarity and understanding about the purpose of our existence.

After returning home to the U.S. from doing Ayahuasca, COVID-19 began to creep into the news, and all future plans got put on hold as the world shut down. I found myself briefly staying with my parents during the lockdown, before heading back to Chicago to cancel my lease and drive across the country to the Pacific Northwest. I ultimately road tripped from Northern Virginia to Chicago, then from Chicago through South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, to the western coast of Washington State.

Finding myself in the back of a moto-taxi in Iquitos, Peru, I met other retreaters heading to the same place and finally arrived at the Ayahuasca center out in the jungle. After taking mushrooms alone in the dark one last time in Chicago, and introducing my mom to the mushroom space back in Virginia, the road to Ayahuasca took me first to a retreat center in the Pacific Northwest.
