The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 15 - Boyd White Part Two
Boyd is back for a second go! Who should the audience of comic books be today? Should they be for young people or old farts? Have comic book writers lost the essence of characters who were created in the 1930s? Can we live in a world where multiple versions of comics exist for different audiences? Boyd drops his knowledge bombs on us once again and walks us through the basic histories of DC and Marvel comics. Part two ends with a discussion about the future of our collections after we pass away. What are we going to do with all of this stuff? Listen in folks - this is a good one. The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 14 - Boyd White Part One
We are back! Did you miss the podcast? This week, Sean interviews Boyd White. Boyd is a friend, a mentor, a scholar, and most importantly, a collector. He is the type of person who can easily talk to you for three hours about the merits of a 19th century detective/werewolf novel. His brain is a vault of popular culture knowledge that could easily compete with Google searches. In this first section of the podcast, the two discuss the serious art of collecting. Boyd talks about his first love, comic books, and how his parents had a chance to buy 5 Spider-Man number one comics for $500 dollars each. We discuss how his collection evolved from comic books to incredibly rare novels and comic strip art. As he explains, comic strip artwork is fascinating because the best artists of the early 20th century created incredibly detailed strips that could never possibly translate well into print. The original artwork is sought after because it is so unique and beautiful. Boyd also explains how the internet has changed the rarity of collectable items. Part one ends with the types of comic strip art that catches his eye. This is a great podcast for those of you who love pop culture and collecting. Download now!

The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 13 - Sean Watkins
We strip it down this week at The Sisyphus Effect Podcast and my life partner interviews me! I guess that the number 13 really is an unlucky number. Deborah talks to me about my growing up in a small town, about our future kids and about my family. You will get to learn a lot about who the man behind the mic is. I hope to do several more podcasts about myself because, as you all know, I am kind of an important person. So, enjoy another family episode (not to be confused with family friendly because I swear all the time). Download us The Sisyphus Effect Podcast on iTunes or catch it here: http://thesisyphuseffectpodcast.podomatic.com/ Keep listening and I will keep making them!

The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 12 - Bobb Watkins
The amazing thing about technology is that one can capture a moment in time (or at least as long as the medium holds out) and listen to it over and over again. The voices of those who were close to you are made static and yet, if you pay close attention, you hear different things every time you play it. In 2008, I was fortunate enough to record my father for a school project about folklore artists. Dad was a well known figure in the community and one of his main passions was music. With a collection of thousands of records, tapes and cds, he created elaborate mixed cassette tapes for friends and the community. As a child, I remember watching dad spend hours in the "music room" crafting the perfect mixes and combinations of modern and oldies music. If you love music and want to learn more about the art of the mixed tape, this is a must listen. Download it on Monday (early birds can download it on Saturday)! This week on the show, we have Bryan Nance who is an expert in college admissions and his mission in life is to encourage and support students of color throughout their collegiate journey. For this this podcast we decided to discuss our mutual love of comic books and the current world of super heroes. We talk about rebooting super hero stories, the appeal of digital books, appropriate comic books for young people, and representations of race. The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 10 - Chris McVey
Episode 10! It is a big week for The Sisyphus Effect Podcast. When I started this podcast, I never thought I would be able to find ten people who would actually want to talk to me for hours at a time, let alone be able to edit the conversations into interesting podcasts. It has been a fun journey so far and I hope that all of you will continue to listen and perhaps share the shows with friends. This week on the podcast, I interview one of my best friends, Dr. Chris McVey. As a recent graduate/father/employed person, Chris has a lot to say about life and death. In this podcast, we talk about the dead dad club and how our father's deaths at relatively young ages have effected the way that we view the world. For those of you who have or are thinking about having children, Chris discusses how the birth of his son has changed the way that he navigates the world. Dr McVey is a recent PhD in English Literature and therefore will analyze the hell out of every topic we bring up. This is a powerful show. Check it out. Download it on Monday (early birds can download it on Saturday)! The Sisyphus Effect Podcast can be found at http://thesisyphuseffectpodcast.podomatic.com/ or you can download it on iTunes. You can interact with the podcast in several ways. Follow our new Twitter account @Sisyphuseffect and send us e-mails at sisyphuseffectpodast@gmail.com. _____________________________________________ "Sean!?! Where did all of the old episodes go!?!? Your site is broken! I am never listening again because you are stupid!" As a fledgling podcast, I do not have the storage space yet to keep all of the episodes up at the same time. I would have to pay cash moneys for that, so that will come later down the line. If you would like to get a hold of an older podcast, send me a message and I will e-mail it over. We are working on establishing a real website and a logo soon. If you would like to give suggestions, please let me know.

The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 9 - Nick Stroup
Gentleman...START YOUR ENGINES! Life continues to be busy, so I will keep this extra short this week. I am proud that I have managed to get to episode number 9 and I hope to continue through my busy summer. I love to hear lots of encouragement, so go ahead and comment on my posts or follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter. I am starting to have to pull down old episodes because of space issues. So, if you want to listen to the older shows, please send an e-mail or a tweet my way. If you would like to donate to the show in order for episodes to stay up longer, just contact me and we can set something up. This week on the podcast we have my friend Nick Stroup. The conversation starts with a brief discussion about being young in the DC area and drifts into the drag world. Nick tells us about his experiences attending drag events in the area and how he views the art form. Of course any conversation about drag will eventually lead you to Rupaul's Drag Race, so we spend some time talking about how popular culture is shifting the potential effects of the show. Also, I am asked if I would ever dress up in drag! Escandalo! If you are new to the drag world, Nick defines several terms like "shade" and "fishy". Honey, be ready for an education! The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 8 - Andrew Moss
Boy! Things have been getting busy in the real world. My job and personal life are constantly trying to get in the way of my podcasting dreams. As someone who is obsessed with the podcast world, I do realize that consistent content is crucial to building a larger following. So, I will do my best to keep the podcast going every two weeks. To be honest, the podcast has become something that I am really proud of. I feel like I am doing good work and that I am getting better at it every podcast. Deadlines are great reasons to keep the creative juices flowing. The past few months have shown me that the Sisyphus Effect Podcast is definitely a worthwhile venture. I know that I have some dedicated listeners and I hope to get more as the journey continues. Thank you all for listening. You can interact with the podcast in several ways. Follow our new Twitter account @Sisyphuseffect and send us e-mails at sisyphuseffectpodast@gmail.com. I am working on getting a new logo from a professional and looking into creating a specific website for the podcast. All of this takes time and money, but it will be well worth it. Episode 8 of the podcast is a conversation with Andrew Moss. He discusses the importance of JRR Tolkien on just about everything in his life. We talk about The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. Of course you can't talk about Tolkien without getting into the inadequacies of the films (to be fair - there are some decent parts). The podcast is also full of many JRR Tolkien facts and stories. Andrew explains why he thinks Tolkien is a superior writer to other contemporary fantasy novelists. Do you agree with him? Listen in for a journey through Mordor! Episode 7 - Kat Veach
BIF! BAM! POW! This week on The Sisyphus Effect Podcast, we get violent! Sean was in the mood for some ultra violence, so he brought in his friend Kat Veach to talk about her favorite blood sport, Muay Thai fighting. The two discuss the sport and Kat explains what it is like to be a woman in a male dominated sport. The discussion also focuses on her first tournament and she explains the process of cutting lots of weight. If you have ever wondered what it is like to eat nothing for days and then have a scary person try to crush you, this is the podcast for you! She also describes what was going through her mind during her first real fight. Does she win!? You will have to listen to find out. Kat is also an academic who focuses on religion and hip hop music, so she definitely has a unique perspective on her amateur career as a fighter. The Sisyphus Effect Podcast
Episode 6 - The Return of Mike Chin
What can we say? Mike Chin is a star. Since last time we spoke to him he has had a very successful Buzzfeed post that has shot him into the world of WWE type writers. In the article, he painstakingly ranked every single Wreslemania match in an incredibly detailed blog post and it has had considerable notoriety. Check out the article here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/miketchin/ranking-every-wrestlemania-match-ever-ipcp. Today, Sean and Mike talk about his other creative outlet, The A Cappella Blog. Starting as a small operation, the blog now gets several thousand readers and even has its own book. You can order the A Cappella Book here: http://acappellablog.com/book. During the conversation, Mike describes his time as a critic of both live a cappella performances and albums. Sean is not very well versed in the world of singing without instruments, so Mike walks him through the history of the genre and talks about some contemporary groups. For more by Mike Chin, you can also check out his website: Miketchin.com. Thanks for listening!

Episode 4 - Eric Lott
This week on the podcast, Sean interviews his good friend Eric Lott. Eric is an expert on all things miniature. One of his main passions in life is playing a game called Flames of War. Flames of War is a World War Two board game where the players paint their own pewter figures to match the look of soldiers of that era. Hardcore individuals buy these expensive unfinished men to have the privilege of spending many an eye destroying hour painting them by hand. They sometimes also create landscapes for the soldiers to battle upon. THEN, you get to play the actual game. Eric explains the origins of his hobby and shows off his many Soviet figures.
