A gam is known as a social meeting or informal conversation, notably used among whalers at sea. The Nantucket Gam centers each episode around a particular theme, with the episode consisting of about 20-25 minutes of storytelling and conversation around the topic, bringing in present-day storytelling at the conclusion of each episode by having a guest community member who can speak to the theme. The Nantucket Gam allows the Nantucket Historical Association to tell new stories of Nantucket history and dive into lesser-heard narratives, while elevating diverse voices of the island’s history and capturing contemporary voices of Nantucket today.
