A gam is known as a social meeting or informal conversation, notably used among whalers at sea. The Nantucket Gam centers each episode around a particular theme, with the episode consisting of about 20-25 minutes of storytelling and conversation around the topic, bringing in present-day storytelling at the conclusion of each episode by having a guest community member who can speak to the theme.
The Nantucket Gam allows the Nantucket Historical Association to tell new stories of Nantucket history and dive into lesser-heard narratives, while elevating diverse voices of the island’s history and capturing contemporary voices of Nantucket today.

We will build up to the Great Fire of 1846 and along the way we will see stories of community collaboration, histories of explosive new ideas, and tales of easily avoidably tragedy.
