When They Ask for a Raise
Welcome to the second episode with Scott Tucker! This time, Scott joins us to chat about a topic that most employers may not be keen to talk about: asking for a raise. Having the market values in mind is always important, even though during the pandemic they have been changing constantly. Scott always rechecks them every few months to see that every employee is having a good number on their paychecks. As a manager, always be open to listening to your employee’s reasons to get a raise; their explanations can show you things you might be missing out on. Employees need to understand how much it costs an employer to have them in the company, and that includes health insurance, retirement, in-office services, and more.  Tune in to this episode and understand the other side of the coin when it comes to raises in a company!

Simplifying the No Surprise Billing Act
Hello and happy 2022!  The Medical Management Podcast is truly happy to be back with much more information to help you level up your practice. In this two-part special we feature our friend Scott Tucker. In this first episode, we tackle a controversial topic: the No Surprises Billing Act of 2022. Even though this act applies in its majority to hospital settings, there is a part that applies for outpatient medical clinics and practices. Good faith estimates and disclaimers must be shown to patients. Hospitals and practices are not involved when a patient disputes a bill, that must be done directly with the government. Scott breaks down the No Surprises Billing Act step by step for you to understand and know how to go forward from now on.

Accountability
Today’s episode is about accountability in tough situations.  Holding someone accountable to the high standards the company has can be daunting and scary. There are several ways to do so without being arrogant, rude or disrespectful. A boss’s job is to be both compassionate and demanding with their teams. Jesse shares what he thinks are red flags for a leader in this topic. He also gives his thoughts towards what we should do in the future. Accountability comes down to three things: be consistent, step up when you need to, and take a human approach.  Accountability needs us to be the best version of ourselves we can possibly be.

Workers across all industries are tired or burnt out, and having little pick-me-ups can help as an incentive. These incentives can come in a taco truck on a specific day or mental health resources available. Another piece of advice Jesse gives is restructuring the workflows to see where can holes are supported and dealt with. Their final thought goes about leaders in this precise moment and how they have to double-check themselves to take care of their team. Join Jesse and Jay to recognize the roots of what is going on in management right now. For the full transcript, show notes, and resources to help you level up your practice, visit us at medman.com.

Negotiating with your Best Self with Jesse and Jay
Negotiating with your best self is a skill that can be applied to many aspects of life. In this episode, Jay discusses this topic with Jesse. Negotiation is a skill like decision-making or problem-solving. As with every skill, you can train yourself to become better at it. To negotiate as your best self, you have to recognize your personality traits and strengths. Jesse thinks about three things when negotiating: first, how well did you represent yourself or the company you work for; second, the relationship you create with the other party that is negotiating; and three, did you live up to your ethics? Jesse also reflects on those key things you can work on to become a better negotiator. Negotiations are successful when there’s a win-win relationship between everyone involved.
